I like this scene. Shows realistically what even one bullet can do: KILL YOU. Real life has no regenerative health bar, you get shot in the right place, you're SCREWED.
I preferred the English version of this scene. Some people criticise it for the swearing at 2:02 ("SO FUCKING WHAT if I'm not you?!"), but I thought it added an edge. And, let's be honest, if you were dying and you were being given shit by a whiny teenager, you'd be angry too.
I own pretty much everything that has ever been released of NGE.
But I haven't watched it in many years. Seeing THIS reminds me of why it is my favourite series of all time.
It was only later on in my life when I did LSD and learned what life and death is all about, when I realized that the basic philosophy of NGE is so much more closer to the truth than all "religions" and science humanity has ever brought forth.
If there was any body part left then there is a high chance she "evolved" and became primordial ooze. It's up to her if she wants to come back to an individual existence.

I was watching the voice-actor's commentary (English voice-actor's commentary, not Japanese) and they were like, "Oh, at this spot, if you pause the video at the right time, you can see something crazy..."
Okay... You know how Misato is chillin' there with Rei, then suddenly there's that explosion under her? Before that explosion actually happens, pause the video, then press play and pause again really fast, and continue doing that until you're paused on the actual explosion... The exact time to pause it: 3:58. However, this video is a bad quality, so it's hard to see what happens... I'll just tell you that you'll see Misato split in half with her spine dangling out and other gore.
I slightly disagree with the translation at 3:00. She says 行ってらっしゃい. Which could mean see you soon, but in this context I think she means more like godspeed or a more permanent formal goodbye.
@KisekiTim You're both right and wrong. I'm sure you know that people say 行ってらっしゃい when someone else is leaving, and it does pretty much mean "see you soon." It has NO implications of a final or permanent farewell. Misato uses it here almost in a form of verbal irony. She just told Shinji that when he comes back, they'll "do the rest," and her "itterashai" implies this (him coming back soon), but ironically, because she's dying. The translation is spot-on. Your way would be plain wrong.
Shinji, makes out with Misato, sees Asukas tits, goes all the way with his dead mom's clone, Pilot's a super bad ass organic mech, shit's crazy! No wonder anime became 20 times more popular afterwards.
Man this is why I love Evangelion and animes like it. I love it when scenes like this fuck my shit up. I mean wow, I really felt the moment and I can understand why Misato did it. Hell, I'm sure deep down Shinji always wanted to kiss Misato, why not give him that as a thanks before she dies? That's why this scene fucked with me so much. What a way to say farewell Misato. Misato just wanted to motivate Shinji with the kiss. In episode 1 Shinji comes to Tokyo beacause of a date with Misato ^^ so this kiss is correct hehe :) liked it very much

If he loses against one angel, the world will end because of him. The pressure and traumas that you can take so far is what shinji is doing.

2010 almost 2011 and still no anime that can rival Evangelion, it's like the japaneses are not even trying anymore. Since the end of 2008 now every anime is a romantic comedy in a high school setting full of sexual innuendos. Rahxephon was the closest thing but it was more like a rip-off... Thanks god for the Evangelion remake even though is coming so slow.
I understand that Misato was sick and wrong for kissing Shinji like that, and that her relationship towards Shinji leans on paedophilic, but I can't help but love these two. Misato was one of the only people who really cared about Shinji and the rest of the pilots, and became a mother for them, even if she never had a good parental example.

I wish they'd shown the part just after this finishes. When Shinji touches his lips and finds Misatos blood on his fingers, and realises she was dying. It makes it that more poignant.

I remember watching the dub verison of evangelion on adult swim and I wanna see this movie so bad,problem is i saw the series when i was like in junior highschool and i barely remember what it's about now that i'm graduated from school altogether.It makes me mad that they never played the movie on t.v....well from at least what i've seen maybe they have i'm not sure. But i do know i wanna see the movie in dubbed verision since i saw the series like that too.
Someone once told me, before I first watched Evangelion, not to get too attached to any Evangelion characters...because they would all (except for Asuka and Shinji, who were the new Adam & Eve) be turned into a universal pool of LCL.
Actually, the subs in this are BS. Misato actually drops the F-Bomb on Shinji twice in this final sequence. Surprisingly enough...the F-Bomb was NOT cut from the English dub.

Why does everyone says that they want Kamina here? Kamina is a complete different charakter and wouldn't even fit in this film...
Shinji is Shinji - and this is good so... this scene is so damn terrible sad.. but one of the best scenes in the whole anime (sorry for my bad english) ...
Misato just wanted to motivate Shinji with the kiss. In episode 1 Shinji comes to Tokyo beacause of a date with Misato ^^ so this kiss is correct hehe :) liked it very much

@rapi321 Hey, lets face it. Kamina is a very unrealistic character. (but he is THE most epic anime character without a doubt xD) And shinji... he's just a kid with the world ending before his eyes. If he loses against one angel, the world will end because of him. The pressure and traumas that you can take so far is what shinji is doing.
The confusion in emotion and self-degrading thoughts are VERY natural thing to happen.
im actually surprised Shinji doesnt freak out more often actually.

2010 almost 2011 and still no anime that can rival Evangelion, it's like the japaneses are not even trying anymore. Since the end of 2008 now every anime is a romantic comedy in a high school setting full of sexual innuendos. Rahxephon was the closest thing but it was more like a rip-off... Thanks god for the Evangelion remake even though is coming so slow.

I understand that Misato was sick and wrong for kissing Shinji like that, and that her relationship towards Shinji leans on paedophilic, but I can't help but love these two. Misato was one of the only people who really cared about Shinji and the rest of the pilots, and became a mother for them, even if she never had a good parental example.

I wish they'd shown the part just after this finishes. When Shinji touches his lips and finds Misatos blood on his fingers, and realises she was dying. It makes it that more poignant.

I remember watching the dub verison of evangelion on adult swim and I wanna see this movie so bad,problem is i saw the series when i was like in junior highschool and i barely remember what it's about now that i'm graduated from school altogether.It makes me mad that they never played the movie on t.v....well from at least what i've seen maybe they have i'm not sure. But i do know i wanna see the movie in dubbed verision since i saw the series like that too.

Someone once told me, before I first watched Evangelion, not to get too attached to any Evangelion characters...because they would all (except for Asuka and Shinji, who were the new Adam & Eve) be turned into a universal pool of LCL.

Actually, the subs in this are BS. Misato actually drops the F-Bomb on Shinji twice in this final sequence. Surprisingly enough...the F-Bomb was NOT cut from the English dub.

dont be too sad. Anyone notice the figure of Rei before the explosion? That means Misato was turned into LCL before the explosion and will be resurrected along with everyone else after the third impact.

Then you need to watch this again in slow motion because if you stop the frame at the right moment you will see poor Misato blown in half her upper body is in the upper left & her legs to the right. sadly she died before her instrumentality could happen.

A lot of people tell Shinji is stupid, because he could had have a beautiful relationship and lots of sex with either: Misato, Asuka or Rei at his choice, the thing is that I dont think that actually none of us would had done better than Shinji, considering most guys pale or at least gets nervuois with a mid-tier good looking girl with nice character and that at times she even puts in our face she has a crush on us yet we get nervous and at time doesnt dare, if on this situation most guys
