@doughnutser256 well teh sillouette stuff is added, it makes sense, but when it's not in silloute then it must have come from somewhere because these videos are done with the original artwork
This was my favorite book as a little girl, I am now 30 years old and have not seen this book since i was very little. Watching this brought back so many memories of my dad reading me this every night, I watched it with tears in my eyes. I would give anything to find this actual book again and buy it, please anyone that knows where to find this book please let me know, I must have it. This give me more memories with my father than I've ever had, what a blessing, just so important to me!
For lack of a better phrase, this is an overload of nostalgic adorableness. ^^ I can see why parts may be found creepy, but I never thought of them as such. To me it's just a sweet childhood memory I'm glad I could revisit.
I think I am more creeped out by the 3rd eyes in the dark part now. The sounds in that scene make me think there is an unknown intruder, demon, etc. that is making heavy footsteps waiting to scare and or ready for the kill or drive away.
@teletubbybuddy Hey are you trying to make fun of me or did you actually have a dream like that? I had and actual nightmare once dealing with the 3 bears coming out of the closet in my bedroom and them attacking me and killing me while I was in bed in the dream.
You mean like Looney Tunes where they occasionally had them and did not present them as freaky compared to this. Other cartoons in which I saw the eyes in the dark don't creep me out because they were not as close to the screen, they did not bug their eyes out at the viewer in a creepy manner, and the sounds effects while the eyes were animating creeped me out. This was one of the first animations of in the eyes in the dark I actually viewed.
the Biggest Brave Brother Bear has a Chicago Bear banner, on the year they won the Super Bowl (in 1985, when this video was produced). Nice connection there.
@scottof83 I have the original book beside me and that banner was already on the wall in the book before this video came out. This book came out ten years in 1975 before this video was released in 1985.
This is one of the only Golden Book vids I never saw as a kid. I know as a fact those silhouettes would have scared me for sure. I hated dark/black figures and silhouettes in these vids as a kid. Like Mr. McGregor in Peter Rabbit, Polly's Pet, etc.
@MissDiko Yeah but this one scared me the most out of every single Golden Book Video story I have seen up to date. This is actually my VHS tape that my friend uploaded. Since you mentioned it I actually have the VHS with Peter Rabbit and Polly's Pet , that tape actually never scared me when I was little, since I saw this first and at the same time as this tape.
@doughnutser256 I recently saw "What was that!" a few months ago and it creeped me out and I'm 26!! No way I would have watched that as a kid w/out running out of the room o.o
@MissDiko Not to mention the silhouette part #2 with the two brother bears and their phantom bear-like silhouette forms with their eyes moving around and then looking at the viewer and the creepy and cheesy flute music. It mentally gives me the creeps thinking about his!
@MissDiko I personally believe this book adaption had way too many creepy silhouettes in it as well as the repeated animation of the creepy eyes in the dark
@MissDiko You probably would have been more scared of the silhouettes in this than Mr. McGregor in Peter Rabbit, or the cat in Polly's Pet if you were little. I was even more scared of the silhouettes in this than the other ones you mentioned.
I had this on VHS when I was a kid and that song has been stuck in my head til this day LOL! I don't get how this was scary. I always thought the animations were hilarious.
03:33 I don't get how the older brother's feet are at the same level of the baby bear's feet LOL
@SAIKOREB0N Oh really! Did the eyes in the dark parts ever creep you out when you were a younger kid? They scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid. Out of all the Golden Book Video Story segments I watched, this one creeped me out the most. How about the creepy and cheezy flute music in the second eyes in the dark part. When the two bears were in the orange blanket when the book was zoomed in while shaking it up and down, etc. The older brother bear is out of the sheets more.
i meant the feet looked out of proportion lol especially when they rubbed their feet together. i can't say that i found it scary, really. i thought it was funny. i guess the only thing i did think was scary was the spiders in this story lol.
This creeped me out a lot more than Richard Scarry's Animal Nursery Tales version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears when I was younger. I have watched both and this was much creepier to watch for a younger kid than Goldilocks. I also have that tape too. Goldilocks and the Three Bears never scared me that much. I can list some of the things that creeped me out in this video when I was young; the three eyes in the dark parts, especially the 2nd part with the flute music
animation of the eyes in the dark, the shape of the eyes in the dark, the flute music, the orange blanket part, papa bears eye animation, when the camera was zoomed onto biggest brave brother bear's face, the music during the face close up and when he found his younger brother's under the blanket and zooming onto their faces, and when the middle-aged brother bear was opening his eyes.
Did you ever watch this when you were younger? I did and it to me was the creepiest out of all the Golden Book video stories I have watched. I even watched The Three Bears when I was younger at the same time as this and it didn't scare me nearly close as much as this.
I noticed sometimething after watching this. The sides of the house are a dark navy blue-like color when the bears skedaddle for safety to another room, and the side of the house is the normal brightened blue color. I wonder if the darker color during the unnerving parts symbolize fear and night terror-like feelings and the brighter blue represents calmness! I am just curious, what would you think?
That seems very likely; color can be used to represent the mood often. The old "Gerald McBoing Boing" cartoon from 1950 used colors to represent the moods, too.
Yep, this is definitely not suitable for younger children! Watch out if younger children get scared of the eyes in the dark and other creepy parts in this Golden Book Video story. I also put this on my favorites.
Bears-We heard a bump, a thump, and a clump!
Sam Fisher-Dammit, Randall they are on to me.
