  • Hans zimmer is a genius :D

  • That studio is insane!

  • scoring 'The Joker' is more apt.

  • is that battery 3 on the low monitor?

  • The Joker wasn't my favourite vilian, instead two face. The things Harvy could have done to avenge his girlfriend would overcome the minor disturbance that the Joker caused. A few hospitals and a boat?? Noob. Harvy would have torn apart the whole police system and havoc would have been caused

  • He wanted to create something "people could truly hate" .. and ironically ended up creating something people are truly loving!! Insane talent!!

  • so he spend ages and ages to finally come up with a couple of notes rising in pitch...i think the biggest joker is this guy.

  • @gamer3386 it's VERY hard. I can't imagine what he goes through. He makes the scoring from thousands of little obnoxious noises and turns it into flawless, intense soundtrack. He created that. All of it. It's not like he just went on iTunes and picked out songs for the movie. He has amazing creativity and that's what this job requires.

  • His job is not that hard its simple thing you just need to have ears and brain connected to them

  • @gamer3386

    ?

  • very un usual score but yeah a great one none the less

  • wow just look at his studio! his sitting in the middle of the room with his computers and monitors and in the back there is this gigantic wall of effect units and stuff oh my gawd! this is the central hub! the central hub of all great music!

  • Vibrato + detuned cross notes = Joker

  • yeah that's cubendo not pro tools haha.

  • he is truly a genius!

  • I believe 2.37 makes an appearance in Sherlock Holmes.

  • Hans uses Pro Tools :) WOO!!!!

  • it looks like cubase?

  • @DJBJN Nope. Cubase Nuendo. Dude's got taste. And I don't mean that PT is bad, I mean that he's exercised a choice rather than go with the default, unsurprisingly.

  • these are my favorite composers in order for me: John Williams, Bernard Herrman, Jerry Goldsmith, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, John Powell, James Horner, James Newton Howard, Harry Gregson Williams

  • @davedirector7 No Michael Giacchino? D:

  • got on your vid at random

  • He should sell these as samples :)

  • What about James Newton Howard?

  • i like zimmer. but i dont like his work on batman. nothing special for me. i prefer elfman's score its more defined. i dont feel this music gives me any feeling about the joker or batman. its just not batman for me. also i hate bale he is the worst batman to date. that voice my god. terrible. disgrace. nolan you fool.

  • @monchandclaxbach dude, why can't you just take batman as the normal guy. why does he need to sound a certain way so that you can take him seriously. What is this Voice you have in mind? Batman is human like you and me. Batman can be anyone. Even someone whose voice you can't stand. I can barely stand him, myself, but he's a guy and he's batman. I accepted it. "I'm Batman!"

  • Ideawear. Genius

  • I'd kill for that modular system.

  • a genius at work:))love him..he's the best

  • Nolan = Kubrick

    Zimmer = Goldsmith

  • what programs does hans use?

  • @Nygmaqt I recognized Logic Pro 9 (1:34 and around 2:25 behind him) and Pro Tools (2:15).

Great video by the way, thanks for posting.

  • I keep coming back to this video. I think it's because there is nobody in the world like Hans Zimmer and watching the man describe sound inspires me like nothing else.

  • @QuantikMusic aha so ur his gay lover then

  • @zmallic Aha, so your the fucking retard who is either homophobic or gay himself. It's funny how people call others gay and yet they themselves are the ones thinking about it.

I don't have one care for stupid people like you in the world, go and troll someone else you bored, pathetic, lonely piece of trash and get a life other than youtube. I'm not replying back so have fun being but-hurt and trying to make lame come backs. Idiot.

  • @QuantikMusic I see its been a while , since nothing has gone up your gayfaghomo behind eh

  • Does anyone know what program he uses?

  • Saludos from salta!

  • Zimmer's studio looks like the 60's batcave.

  • THIS MAN IS A F***ING GENIUS

  • german genius

  • :D i also use this technique at 4:20 , thats why i create 4 tracks per day

  • He played da joker i still cant dat was him and for da score its madness !

  • i would not drink coffee if that was my studio

  • @spaceboy2686

if u worked hard as he did u surely would !

  • It's weird seeing the Joker converse with Nolan. You don't really get the feel that he was acting at all

  • @Falln4DarkAngel fully agree with u. He seems like he doesnt even leave his job. Such good makeup and such a good actor. R.I.P

  • I hope Mr. Zimmer is paid handsomely for his talent. God knows he deserves it.

  • @TIKIMAN198 I don't think he is, Guess his Mom payed for the studio equipment...

  • @TIKIMAN198 I'm sure he doesn't have to financially worry about too much.

  • the music was just as great as the movie

  • 611 people like this and 9 people (who appear to be deaf) obviously cant hear whats being played at all.....

  • Wow man wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In many ways, Hans Zimmer reminds me of Danny Elfman. They both come up with great pieces using unconventional tempos and playing styles, and they've both used scoring techniques to musically define a revamped Batman villain (the Penguin and the Joker, respectively).

  • Cubase?

  • i hate Hans Zimmer. he's too good.

  • lol, hans zimmer scored the dark knight.

  • Hmm..pencil taps and razors on violin, that's more like the crazy creativity! and was the ending beat on guitars?

  • 9000 bars? LMAO :D

  • this video gave me goosebumps

  • HEY People !! The motive from this video is the same what Armin van Buuren remixed in A State of Trance 388, 3 years ago ;)

I recognized this sound inmediately ;)

    here is the video :

    /watch?v=OWzz5rNunrU

  • The one true thing that I paid close attention to in this film, was the soundtrack. I liked the fact that Zimmer was trying to create pieces that embodied the weight of the Joker - as he stated "That you knew he was lurking around." because I definitely got that feeling throughout the whole film. Not only did the music have an impact on me, but emotionally. Hands down, this is still one of the best films I've seen and I'm sure many others can say so themselves.

  • he will push me a little further XD

  • what two notes r they?

  • @realtv2011 D and C, I believe.

  • He's....... gota Space ship Behide Him:)

  • If would love to meet Hans Zimmer. Even if I just got to shake his hand and tell him what a genius he is.

    (Second choice would be Nolan)

  • What a genius.

  • 1:36. what recording program gives you BLOOD RED regions like that? lol

  • 2:47 - I love see him doing this - trying to "play" a imaginary violin... I sometimes do that as well when writing music. If you write something where you can say "Oh this is awesome!" you get the urge to DO something along with the music XD

  • BRILLIANT!!!! All those sounds, ended up in the most simplest thing 1-2 notes droning on. ...Like insanity building up.

  • Nuendo Cubase!!!!! Yes!

  • Zimmer is amazing. He has several different styles/sounds to his musical scores and all of them are recognizable and full of emotion.

  • 5:27 ... instead of spending hours and hours for this tone he could have come to my flat and record when my fridge is cooling.. sounds exactly the same i swear!

  • @Senj1n You are such a joker.

  • @Senj1n that must scare the shit out of you

  • @Senj1n lmao

  • Visionary shit

  • 0: 29 peter criss ??

  • Someone should make a movie called 'Attack of the Hoovers' with this theme in it.

    Hans = Legend!

  • Genius !

  • He relies on technology alot however thats what i hate.

  • @davedirector7 Yes, hate the technology. It diminishes his skill. (sarcasm)

  • @MoarSugarcubes never said it diminishes. You think too much go back to bed

  • @davedirector7 *sarcasm*

  • @davedirector7 The songs need to be tabbed out with advanced software. This is Hans Zimmer we're talking about; there ain't no tape recorders.

  • made in Germany ©

  • Hail to the king baby

  • How could anybody hate this?! I really don't get it.

  • ooooooooooooo my lord this dude is a monster on scores mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Hans Zimmer is up there with Mozart and Beethoven as one of the all time classical geniuses

  • heath and hans carry this film, if they werent there it would crumble

  • what program is he using?

  • @thepianolovingman

    Cubase.

  • @King31395 No, not Cubase. He's using Nuendo. Nuendo is basically the big brother of Cubase. It's what you'll find in most of the top end recording studios. We've been using Nuendo for years and I would hate to ever go back to anything else. Pro-Tools doesn't even come close. I should warn that it isn't recommended for amateurs because things get a bit more complex and difficult to use. It also costs a lot more.

  • @DeadlyMixKrew He has stated that he uses cubase time and time again. He probably uses nuendo for post production.

  • @coolsprus101 I don't know the man personally so I don't want anyone to use this as some direct quote or anything (you know how the net is lol) but: People of his level normally have side-deals with the manufacturer where (at minimum) they get everything for free as long as they throw the name around once in awhile. Steinberg doesn't need much publicity w/ Nuendo since most custos are pros but Cubase is directed for home studios and would be the name they want thrown around. Just my theory

  • The fact that this music was playing throughout the entire movie was insane, just made the movie 100 times better

  • Waiting for Dark Knight Rises score!!!!

  • Is this from the blu ray special features?

  • Hans is truly a musical genius. Ever since 1993 (Point of No Return), I've been a HUGE fan of his film scores!

  • Danny elfman is better

  • which music is this ? 0:05

  • Too many focus on whether a guy is what many consider a "true" or "real" musician or not. Isn't a musician someone who writes and plays music using a tool also known as instruments?

Whether you're classically trained or of the play it by ear variety, it's a matter of how hard you work and the respect and effort you put into your craft which Zimmer does.

There is no one/right way, instrument, software, sound sample to get what you want. Consider his field in film. Use all your resources.

  • Shame the other master of music James Newton Howard isn't featured in this video, especially when he was responsible for the emotion of the Dark Knight

  • this guy is awesome.

  • Genius would be an understatement.

  • BEST EVER

  • A genius at work. I can't wait for The Dark Knight Rises film and soundtrack!

  • REALLY GOOD His music rocks zimmer rocks but i think Harry Gregson is Better

  • love it <3

  • See his studio he's like a MAD SCIENTIST

  • GENIUS!!

  • Wish I could have a studio like this!

  • Hans Zimmer inspires me to work hard.

  • Bow down to King Hans. The greatest composer alive and one of the greatest of all time.

  • @ThaPhoenix1... So Be It and thanks for sharing. Mr Zimmer is a legend that needs to be recognized more and more worldwide.

  • @ThaPhoenix1 idk man theres still John Williams who is like 80. Hans and John are def the greatest movie composers in the last 100 years though

  • @ThaPhoenix1 I hope you are joking.

  • @ThaPhoenix1 John Williams is better...Zimmer is a VERY close second

  • the noise is perfect! shows the insanity

  • Goes right through me...Genius

  • CUBASE baby! Best DAW!

  • Hate and love lie very close together. And it sounds so weird and cool, it is not mainstream, it is not ordinary, it is not normal, and that is why I love it. Takes a lot of courage to make, and a lot of skill. Deep respect!

  • There's always a unique story in his Music, and that makes him the best composer ever!!!, i love how Chris Nolan is very close to the composing, just a perfect masterpiece!!!

  • LOOK AT THAT BIG ASS WALL OF SYNTHS!!!!!!

  • The Joker: from childiSh toCrazy & f***ing dirty.

The movie: from childiSh to CRAZY & F***ING DIRTY.

Hans' music score: Crazy and f***ing dirty!!

What more could we want in this movie?!

  • I want his job. And know-how. And all around intelligence

  • Comment removed

  • Nolan: "I don't know where the sound of the Joker is..."

If it was Williams scoring, the Joker will have his theme, you know, like Vader, Superman, Indy, ET, Harry Potter, oh well...

  • Man, this song sounds like the HEAT score, don't be copycats, still good but Williams is the boss scoring...

  • Martin Tillmann Great Cellist, he are in many works from Zimmer, nice ZETA cello.

  • Oh my god, Hans Zimmer composes with Cubase!!!!!!

  • @CedricKristian Nuendo actually :P

  • wich DAW is he using?

  • @denoykilah123 sequencer looks like nuendo, the mixer windows looks like protools if i'm not mistaken

  • @vladcaia

    its cubase

  • This guy is really working hard. You can see that he made 5255 bars of music, and if the tempo would be 60 bpm, than it would be equal to almost 6 hours of music! And keep in mind that at the time they recorded this video he was still working on the score, so at the end the number is even higher! Conclusion: the talent is not enough. Only talent, hard work and persistence can take you to the top.

  • @myrddin021 Kind of, but for Hans Zimmer I don't think his job really qualifies as work, I know that when I compose something on my computer it takes more work to stop, even if I don't come up with anything for an entire day I still end the day wishing I could just keep trying.

  • @myrddin021 Thanks for reminding us how much work these guys put in!

  • @myrddin021 I remember in one interview, Hans Zimmer said this soundtrack was the most exhausting he has ever done...GOD BLESS SIR ZIMMER

  • @myrddin021

Well, 60 BPM is a very uncommon tempo (it's very slow), and it also depends on the time signatures, but yeah, you're basically right.

  • musical genius.

  • HANS ZIMMER IS THE G.O.A.T OF FILM SCORING!!!!!!! POINT BLANK PERIOD!!!

  • he use cubase, im glad what i use this soft too :)

  • the program his using is his brain..;

stop asking about the program, you can't achieve anything..

  • dayuum does he have to lemurs?

    i cant afford even 1

  • Humans will always be needed. Machines will never be able to recreate human passion and expression from the likes of Zimmer.

  • I like how James Newton Howard is completely avoided in this featurette. Granted, this should've been a general music featurette with both HZ and JNH talking about the score. And no more scoring session footage? :-(

  • I got Steinberg's Cubase and Cakewalk's Music Creator. Which one of those two is the best one?

  • @ExhaustedPenguin Cubase!

  • @ExhaustedPenguin Neither. It's how you apply yourself. Because think about it: A piece of paper and a pen is just as useful in that sense.

  • @ExhaustedPenguin cubase

  • @ExhaustedPenguin you can try them and check what is the best for YOU!that's what matters.personally i use Ableton Live to compose (cause of the vertical clips they re so comfortable to me)and cubase 5.1 to mix

  • Razor blades on strings. THAT'S what it is.

  • is it just me, or this in the special features?

  • The Software he uses is Steinberg Cubase.

  • hhaha is he using cubase ?

  • @MrGoNzObeAtZ yea as a sound editor... but do you see that nasty analog synth he has in the background? Do you see that rack of gears that's taller than you? lol

  • @experiment0003 haha Ya, have u seen pics of his home studio, its @#$%ing intense.

  • Danny Elfman's score for Batman was better

  • i couldnt hate it as hans says i loved it!! XD
