man, ford's frame always either bends or snaps in crash tests and then they say they have strong frames..... watch euroncap's test on the newer model (2008) it gets only 2 stars and the frame snaps in half!
@PineAppleEx420 ford has NOW completeley re-faced their ranger. in the past though, they didn't want to change it much looks wise, but they had improved things like safety features, engines, equipment, new transmitions, an improved frame etc... and they did change the looks of it slightly.
ok, at the end of the episode, what truck are they driving? Did they get a new one? because that sure isn't the chev, it has 4 doors, and its white, and looks more like a ford.
my ranger saved both mine and my passenger's lives when we rolled over 3 times and landed upside down. thanks to the ranger we both walked away with only minor injuries the worst of which was a broken collar bone on my passenger. no internal injuries other than that just some bad cuts and minor bruises
@SPUPRR Not entirely true I ended up having a slgiht fender bender (the only thing wrong with my truck was the fender got bend a little and the grill broke) and my air bag went off
@austderstine1 I was thinking wreck as in like total the truck not something small like mine but I know there's a sensor in the front that even if the truck gets bumped a little can still set off the air bag. Either way the airbag was kind of small the only thing it did do when deployed was burnt my wrists
my teacher and another teacher were carpooling in a 2004 Ranger, they hit ice went down the mountain. Rolled 5 times. But they came out fine, they literally walked out of it. Even with the owner being 6'4. they were both fine so these vehicles are good enough.
actually i had a collision with a 2000 toyota camry in my 96 ranger 4X4.I walked away but the guy in the camry, who fault it was ,was taken to the hospital.Later i found out he had severe internal and leg injuries.by the way it was a headon collision.

@JuggrnautWraith13 It's windshield is in tact and the rest of the safety cage looks good too. Good travel or crumple after impact too. Upside down and in tact safety cage is one you can walk away from.
If you dont think that this truck is safe look at the video of my car crash. i slammed in to a steal pole doing 60 and was able to walk away with minor injuries. The video is posted above and the title is "2002 Ford Ranger VS. Hurricane Pole/Barrier". If you dont think that its a safe truck then you are smoking something...
@kikecacique This is the North American Ranger and a 100% Ford product dating back to 1983. The 2008 model tested is a Mazda badged as a Ford Ranger and sold in Europe so is a completely different vehicle and the only part of it that is Ford are the badges.
I know one thing, if I ever hit somebody in my 3 ton 1977 F-150, they will be hurtin, especially if it is one of these newer cars. that thing is built like a fucking tank on wheels, impossible to kill too, the 302 in it is still going strong after almost 200,00 miles and a rebuild, they don't make them like they used to, that's for sure!
My 91 ranger 4x4 with 2.9 v6 5 spd had 321000 miles on her when I had to get rid of it.The body went to shit so it was unsafe.Other than a clutch and water pump every thing was factory including the casset player(lol).
Lets just face the facts here. Despite my love for Ford, there is no such thing as a 'safe' car. There are, indeed, safer cars, but no car is perfectly safe. As mentioned before, each crash is different, and not as simulated as this. Any 2 door, small, light duty truck is going to take significant damage in an accident, plain and simple.
Fail??? the thing is.... the crash angle and speed is what determines the way the vehicle reacts... if you would have thought of that you would have kept that to yourself
Kinda sad how they HAVE to make trucks crush so they don't kill the cars passengers they hit....you think of a full size truck all tough, but it has to also protect the idiot who pulls out in front of it in a corolla so it has to be built to smash to bits just like the car...
really the trucks are made to crush to absorb the impact.. its safer.. i had a wreck in a 87 ford bronco i hit a rodeo and the rodeo looked worse but im the only one who got hurt.. but every wreck is different
Yea I crashed a 1987 Ford Ranger, hit a tree. The front end just pushed in. If that front end didn't crush it'd hurt a lot more than if it didn't. But like you said, every wreck is different. Different place to hit different way to hit. It's all different. Just hope you make it.
testing cars like this is not good. u need to test a "car-2-car" crash test. i know that more money is involved. but testing vehciels into an offset barrier is not always gonna happen in real world crashes
and yeah in comparison of the V6 to the 2.3L 4 banger the 4 banger blows the V6 out of the water in durability and longevity of the motor, the crank seals start leaking in the v6's about 120K miles even worse when you romp on them all the time, ive had my 4 banger since it had 25K on it and now its got 180K, all that was needed was regular maintenance, i use K&N Filters with check valves, K&N Air Filter, Motorcraft 5w20 syntec blend oil, even rebuilt it for a turbo and is still hauling ass.
Yeah, my 3.0 V6 has 127,000 miles, runs like a champ. I romp on it take it off roading and everything, no a single drop of a leak or any smoke. You deff have no idea what your talking about.
I had a 1999 Ranger 4.0 V6, bulletproof. I totalled it at around 205,000 miles. (Flipped 5 times then hit a tree, came out with only some cuts and a bruise from the seat belt.) Never had a single problem out of it.
@fordforms: It's a Ford. Made tough. I've never been in a wreck that bad. Glad you made it. Too bad for the truck though. Rangers are nice trucks. Mine just hit 205,000.
in 98 the ranger were more design to crumple in the front, i have a 95 with a full box frame, and its built tough, i got hit in a head on in town when we got snow the first of the year and it totaled the grand am that hit me, my back tires even came off the ground and the only thing that happened to the truck was a flattened bumper and 2 cracked rubber motor mounts, about 250 bucks for the mounts and a new bumper and it was as good as new
Ranger all i have ever heard is good things about these trucks but it has come to the point were i am in and out of the shop almost once or twice a year. I got the truck with 84k on it and now i am close to 130k in miles on it. We have put a new set of tires on it. Replaced the entire AC System. New air filters, new wheel bareings. New houses new ball joints new belts new shocks a new paint job amongst other things. I admit i drive my truck like a sports car though and i do commute a lot.
I own a 03 ford ranger my dad bought it for me as a Graduation gift. Ever since i was in my first acedent which was not my faulit it has given me so many problems. I have put around 7k into my ranger. Although must say i have a V-6 and it can get up and go just as good as a V-6 Mustang. The only down side is my best friend drives an 06 Exp eddie bower edition and he gets better gas millage then me which is pitiful. I am not sure if i will touch another ford after the problems i have had with my
Everything you listed is normal wear and tear on a vehicle of that age. I suggest you read up on common things that go wrong with ALL vehicles with time. You drove your truck almost 46k, of course you need new tires and air filter. You need to be a more knowledgable and responsible car owner if you don't realize these are normal preventative maintenance.
For being on the same frame since 1998 (and same basic cab since 1993) it did much better than i expected! I bet it would have gotten a 'good' rating if it had SAB (which the 2010 model finally has)
i had a 2006 ford ranger its own my page i crashed because my back tires when out of control something bust them in the road going 50mph i hit head on into a side rail and damaged the the truck from all angles the side door the passenger door the back all over and i got out without a scratch and i didn't go to the ER
I agree that the ranger is in dire need of a major overhaul...its chassis is so old...I drive a 2003 ranger and love it..but regaurdless its not really competitve with whats out there now compact truck wise.
I heard ford is killing off the ranger in favor of making a F-100 styled after the 0- F-150 powerd by the ecotech engines...Cool but also saddens me that the ranger which has been around since 1983 will comming to an end.
i dont care if i die in a crash in my 83 ranger at least they can say i died in a american built truck instead of those FUCKING IMPORTED DODGE PIECES OF SHIT! nuff said
i have a 91 ramcharger, 318 v8. 472,398 miles, never been rebuilt or anything, btw its not imported, mine is even labeled as made in michigan. and itll outdo your ford in anything
hey im glad that your proud of your truck i like that kind of enthuseasm but im suprised dodge still made a few in the us most that come to my shop say made in canada stamped all over im pretty sure u got me beat in speed but hauling it probably be the same for both
I had a '91 Ram with a 318 and NP435 4 speed. When I put it in "granny" gear, I could pull my boat (18 foot Searay) up the boat ramp without even having to touch the accelerator. It would even spin the wheels for a second (in idle) when the the trailer tires hit the abrupt drop we have at the end of our boat ramp. I should also add that my truck was 2WD. I did not even need 4WD low to idle up the ramp like that. I loved that truck, but had to sell it because I needed a van.
Aceptable? ese pedazo de mierda? estan locos! Gringitos! necesitan que Toyota y Mitsubishi les muestren cómo hacer buenos trucks, entiéndase Tundra o L200.
Even though Toyota lovers want to bash the truck into the ground, the truth is the dated design of the Ranger might be doing it a favor. These trucks were engineered fabiously and you can tell when you give a Ranger a good go over. My Ranger is now 10 years old with 148,230 miles on the odomoeter. Still no squeaks, still on the factory clutch and only on it's 2nd pair of brake pads. The 2.5 4 cylinder although an old design sohc 8 valve returns a modest 24mpg. Ain't broke don't fix works.
I like the truck.

Not true, as you may see, the car has a big crumple zone, but it stops crashing when the wheel tuches the edge of the door...

Why does the title say without sab, What Ranger of this kind even comes with sab in the first place?
SteelCity1981 2 years ago
at :31 is that the frame the bends? if so that is sad i mean it crunchs up
Infection35 2 years ago
understand though that this truck hasn't been redesigned since 1993.

lol
poorrr indeed
lakrohbro 2 years ago
I agree that the ranger is in dire need of a major overhaul...its chassis is so old...I drive a 2003 ranger and love it..but regaurdless its not really competitve with whats out there now compact truck wise.
I heard ford is killing off the ranger in favor of making a F-100 styled after the 0- F-150 powerd by the ecotech engines...Cool but also saddens me that the ranger which has been around since 1983 will comming to an end.

poor, and im a ford fan

actually this is pretty good considering it's dangling on a 15+ year old chassis.

Ford really needs to totally redo this truck.
coreydl2008 3 years ago

719FoxRider719 3 years ago
no canada
farmboy184 3 years ago
i have a 91 ramcharger, 318 v8. 472,398 miles, never been rebuilt or anything, btw its not imported, mine is even labeled as made in michigan. and itll outdo your ford in anything
cobhc530177 2 years ago
hey im glad that your proud of your truck i like that kind of enthuseasm but im suprised dodge still made a few in the us most that come to my shop say made in canada stamped all over im pretty sure u got me beat in speed but hauling it probably be the same for both
farmboy184 2 years ago
idk about the hauling, my trucks a lil slow but when i put it in low gear it'll out pull my friends Z71 when hes in 4low, and my dodge is only 2wd
cobhc530177 2 years ago

Wow, i think we were able to read the beginning.
Otherwise, good video.
playa1313 3 years ago
Even though Toyota lovers want to bash the truck into the ground, the truth is the dated design of the Ranger might be doing it a favor. These trucks were engineered fabiously and you can tell when you give a Ranger a good go over. My Ranger is now 10 years old with 148,230 miles on the odomoeter. Still no squeaks, still on the factory clutch and only on it's 2nd pair of brake pads. The 2.5 4 cylinder although an old design sohc 8 valve returns a modest 24mpg. Ain't broke don't fix works.
rompn4x 3 years ago 4
hell i got 2,316,683 miles on my 83 ranger u cant kill them but u can kill a ram 100 miles and fucked up already thats why dodge sucks
