  • In older Volvos (240, 740, 940)they have a bumper attached to a small shock absorber, which can be compressed and then bounce back.

  • Unfortunately a bitch is...

  • I have 99 problems but my Volvo isn't one

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • '

    both bumpers are tooo weakness,,,

make of foam, plastic, rubber, thin weak metal,,,

    FAIL automaker,,,

  • Reversed or what? WTF RUBBER?

  • Uhh.. you're all fukin idiots because both the front and rear bumpers are considered part of the crumple zone, which is supposed to absorb impact.

  • Hehe Volvos are strong but even stronger back in the good days, but the new ones are strong too like on time like in 2003 (or something) my dad was driving a Volvo V70 -01 and he was waiting in cross road then suddenly a Renault van hitted him in the rear in full speed (the driver didnt see him) and the demages? The Renault was smoking and wreked in the front and the Volvo? The bumper and the exaust end was flater but he could drive home but not the Renault :)

  • wtf? i had a crash like that with my 760 Gl...no damage what so ever.. kinda dissapointed i must say...volvos aren't made as they used to be:(

  • @90Ming90 i hit loads of bollards like that in my Renault Espace and never had that kinda damage think volvo are going downhill recently thats why i would never own a volvo after 2002 reg.

  • @DILightning I don't think the company is going backwards, they just take pedestrian safety too much into consideration these days. That means plastic (kinda useless) bumpers.

  • @90Ming90 true very good point there.

  • '

how come this volvo automaker company did not put metal STRONG bumper

  • i want a car made out of those poles.

  • its kinda like that Benz's hood that bounce out if someone decide to jump in front of the car

  • BOING! volvo make their cars from rubber now ?!!

  • shouldnt u smarten da fuk up lol

  • awesome! just got one today! yay

  • Dented a little there

  • q resistente

  • LOL>> im gettin one!

  • how fast was the car going...because it has NO dent in it....lol wow i need my bumpers to run over thing you noe..

  • 5 mph

  • @DeadlyOne647 , nah, it lifted the boot, so the hinges would be bent.

  • Certainly the bumpers aren't what they used to be... stupid "pedestrian safety." I saw fsck the peds!!

Let them have broken legs for getting in my way!!

I want my bumpers to NOT deform until after about a 10mph impact...

Then agian... I never hit anything...... slow.............

    --The loon

  • Well, letting the dumpers deform will actually save other (more expensive!) parts of the car from deforming!

With infinitely stiff bumpers you would have to scrap the car for smaller impacts, not to mention the crash safety of the occupants would be worse.

  • @Rudolf2k Funny you mention that...

I was just rear-ended by a Ford F250 at about 60MPH ( I was going 50-ish ). The bumper on my 850 only deformed very slightly, then the impact shock crushed, then the frame warped slightly ( along with the trunk pan ) [ actually the frame expanded at a pre-determined point ].

The result was actually only $1300 in damage from about a 10 MPH impact.

A more modern car would have suffered much more damage. A stiff bumper protected the trunk and quarter panels.

  • @looncraz Ok, let's say that the bumpers itself can be stiff, but then it has to be mounted on something flexible. :)

  • @looncraz

no, deformed bumper will straighten when heated ;D

So in new car, the damage will be just about $300

  • @looncraz

When some one hit u that push u forward what take part of energy.

  • @looncraz love my mazda 1500

  • @looncraz BUMPERS MEANT TO BE FROM STEEL

  • @looncraz fuck you

  • @pyromanizak LOL!! Very compelling argument, indeed! I stand in awe of your great intellect!

  • @looncraz im standing in your dogs shit

  • @pyromanizak So terribly sorry to hear that. Perhaps you should watch where you walk??

  • yes, but what you don't see is the damage above the back of the wheel wells.

  • shouldn't the bumpers shock absorbers prevent that?

  • this happened to me, regretfully.

  • cant fault it i have reversed into all sorts and got away with it. I also hit the back of a car with not a scratch to either. I though i was lucky but look at that!
