Yea i just ordered a hard drive from newegg that was DOA. it made an insane scratching/swiping noise. i was suprised it didnt explode :P

i remember saving a 40gb 2,5" ide travelstar from that exact situation by just opening the case and slowing down the platter from the center point with a finger (by luck of course)
