That's Sweet all right. Minus the special effects and with very few practice takes, I would imagine. What makes it sound even worse is that Brian's vocal seems to be picking up on some already used channel, making it sound even weaker than it already is. Very timid vocal suggests he doesn't know the song very well at this point. Very cool!
@UKromany Nope. It's really them. Ever heard the original Fox on the Run? It's even worse. They clean up very well in the studio, though, don't they? :)
Really shows you what a studio does for songs... the background vocals are a joke here but on the studio version they're great and very well mixed. Not that Sweet were'nt great, but in a studio you could get a fart to sound like a symphony and turn it into a hit song.
AWESOME!!! I never noticed this version before, it's a shame that I didn't! I like the Sweet, Sweet is my life!! Thank you, I wish I lived in the 70's... But no, I live nearly 40 years later...
Sweet still rocks. I like Andy and Steve's version a lot, too.
The Sweet sound fantastic here: Brian's ever edgy tone with beautiful vibrato, Mick's tremendous drumming, Andy's soaring harmonies. Methinks Toto borrowed heavily, i.e., "tow(ed) the line" around 4:07.
@kn1ghtstemplar it definitely is Sweet, but it is obviously a VERY early demo. Sounds like probably a first recording so the guys could go away and work on it and learn it properly. Songs don't start out with the released version, you know.
You may like it, but it ruined them. Their career ended right here. They were rockers before it became mainstream and this destroyed their reputation among the party crowd that bought thier albums and went to thier concerts. I know I was one of them..............
Sweet had a sound engineer, Reinhold Mack who left to record with ELO, then Queen. You can hear his musical trademark on Sweet's songs. Sweet was one of the first in starting this vocal in-sync harmonies glam-rock music. Then Reinhold continued on and gave us ELO and Queen respectively, each major icons of the 70's
@RJupiter2 Thanks for your wonderfull information.I have been so long in curious why that three groups sounded as if in the same atmosphere,. especially between SWEET and ELO, very close
@Mrharryhue Your very welcome! I was also not aware of Reinhold's work with all three bands, yet realized that's why I liked all their music. He was truly a talented sound engineer!
@RJupiter2 sorry but you are mistaken he did not work with the sweet he worked with elo and queen....go to amazon for a full list of all bands he worked with...no Sweet
@mattrondo This is direct from Wikipedia: -- Now confident in their own songwriting and production abilities, Sweet spent the latter half of 1975 in Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany, where they recorded the Give Us A Wink album with German sound engineer Reinhold Mack, who later recorded with Electric Light Orchestra and co-produced Queen.
Besides the great track the last 30s are really awesome. It's the like in the long album version and should really be used in some modern dance/trance/whatever song because it's too great to just fade out.
This VERSION IS GREAT!!! is always easy to modify things in the studio and postproduction BUT MAN!! the vocals HERE are still awesome!! and the raw sound is beautiful. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS AWESOME VERSION
