  • Awesome team. I'm sure each of us would have our own versions, but your team would be hard to beat.

  • where is nick markakis? should be in right field..

    Pitchers:

    Walter Johnson

    Grover Alexander

    Christy Mathewson

    Lefty Grove

    Warren Spahn

  • @smiley2dinosaur

Markakis on an all time team? If you want to get technical you could call Babe Ruth a right fielder and put him there.

  • i dont care what state you live in D7 mariano rivera is the BEST CLOSER EVER

  • if u think hoffman is better than rivera than ur straight up not a baseball fan or follow the game at all.

  • Pitchers:

Sandy Koufax. Mariano Rivera. Nolan Ryan. Greg Maddux. Walter Johnson. Bob Gibson.

  • Albert Pujols and Ozzie Smith are better than both.

  • Ted Williams over Stan Musial in Left...no question.

  • Ted Williams was terrible defensively, and a very poor baserunner. Yes, he could very well be the greatest pure hitter of all-time, but Musial was far better defensively and he was a much better baserunner.

Barry Bonds over both Ted Williams and Stan Musial in left...no question.

  • This is a joke, right? Bonds over Williams? Or you must be a Giants fan because that is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever read.

  • No, it's not a joke.

Sorry, but I would take a left fielder who could play great defense, could run very well, walked a ton, and hit for average and power over a guy who was a great pure hitter, but a terrible fielder and an even worse runner.

If my team had a DH, I'd put Williams there. Simply because Bonds was a far superior overall player.

So please, explain to me why you believe my statement is any more ridiculous than your placing of a defensive and baserunning liability in left.

  • yeah but williams broke records on tobacco and beer.

  • Completely irrelevant.

  • if williams took steroids as well then id go with bonds. but williams was pure talent

  • Uhhh, pure HITTING talent, sure. He couldn't field and he couldn't run, and he was helped out a little more than a tad bit by the fact that he played at Fenway Park. Obviously he was not a product of Fenway like Jim Rice was, but there is less of a gap between Bonds' home/away stats than Williams' home/away stats.

  • What team are you a fan of? I'm just trying to make sense of this. Regardless of the steroids Bonds took, which is the only reason why he's the HR king, he was a great ball player. But to keep, who a lot of people regard as the best hitter of all-time, out of this lineup is crazy. Defense and baserunning are meaningless and can be overlooked when his bat is in the lineup. Baserunning is irrelevant if you're not on base and Williams 344 avg against Bonds 298 is no contest.

  • Williams also lost 3 prime years to WWII and most certainly would have hit over 600 HR's. That kind of power along with a 344 career avg is eye popping. No manager would take Bonds over Williams.

  • Ummm, if the manager wants a better overall player (only thing I was arguing in the first place), then they wouldn't even have to think about it. Bonds would be over Williams, and Williams would be a DH.

Bonds was +98 in FRAA, meaning that he won nearly 10 games with his defense. He also had 714 win shares, which is like second all-time. Williams was -72 in FRAA and had nearly 160 fewer win shares than Bonds. Bonds also has a higher WARP3 and an EqA just three points lower than Teddy.

  • No, defense and baserunning are definitely not meaningless. I never said I would leave Williams out of lineup, he just wouldn't be my left fielder. I'll take Bonds because he could field very, very well and he ran quite well.

Williams was -72 in FRAA, meaning he cost his team around seven wins because of his abysmal defense. He stole bases at a 59% success rate.

And if you actually think batting average is a legitimate statistic, then there's no point in arguing with you.

  • You're right, defense and baserunning are not meaningless. My point was, they are if it means keeping Williams off the team. How can someone say "I just kept the best hitter of all-time (my opinion) off my team". Sounds crazy to me. There are positions in baseball that defense can be overlooked and left field is one of them.

  • And I guess the argument is over, because yes, BA is a legitimate stat (never thought I would hear it wasn't, but a first time for everything). I'll take a guy batting 350 to a guy batting 250 any day.

  • I'll take a guy batting .250 who hits 40 home runs, 40 doubles, and walks 100 times over a guy who hits .350 with 25 doubles, five home runs, and walks 40 times a year. There are other stats that are far more important and less misleading than batting average. For example and strictly as a hitter, I'll take Adam Dunn over Ichiro any day.

  • As I clearly stated, I would not leave him off my team. I'm just going to replace him with a far better overall player at a defensive position. I'd rather have Bonds and positive defense, as well as his terrific hitting and great baserunning, than Williams and his terribly negative defense and utter lack of baserunning.

Once again, I'll put Ted at DH. If I am running an NL-type team, I'll more than likely put him in left but only because I absolutely have to.

  • Now you're bringing other stats into play when "BA not being a legitimate stat" was the topic. But, I'd still take Ichiro to a guy that is as close as you get to an automatic out (Dunn strikes out a ton). So if we bring other stats into play would you take Dunn over Pujols? They have about the same power #'s with the only diiference being BA. Why not, it's a coin flip if BA is misleading.

  • Ok, I'll take a team of hitters like Adam Dunn and you take a team of hitters like Ichiro and we can play 100 games. I guarantee you that my team of .250/.400/.520/.920 will more win a lot more games than your .330/.380/.430/.810 team.

And also, batting average is the last thing I look at when looking at how great Pujols is. He OPSes 1.055 for his career. His OPS+ is 172. His average WARP is 9.5.

Ichiros' EqA is .298. Pujols' is .348. Dunn's is .303.

  • If you have a team of players similar to Adam Dunn, I'd love to be the pitcher and I can't pitch at all. Even I would probably set strikeout records. But seriously, I know most pitchers would be salivating if they saw that lineup. Usually, power hitters with BA's around 250 tend to either hit a homer or strikeout (Adam Dunn, Rob Deer, Carlos Pena, Mark Reynolds, Cecil Fielder to name a few)

  • I would take the Ichiro team no question. The lineup with Ichiro would get on base and drive each other in (no need for the HR). With Dunn, there is a very strong possibility he won't get on. Ichiro obviously does not hit for power, but his RBI totals lack because he's a leadoff hitter and comes to bat after the lower and weaker part of the lineup. If he batted 3rd his RBI totals would be up.

  • A very strong possiblity he won't get on? And Ichiro would? Do you realize the differences in OBP between Ichiro and Dunn? All Ichiro does is hit, and he hits for little-to-no power. Dunn walks a lot and hits bombs.

And thanks for ignoring all the other stats that I brought up. Let's just go ahead and claim that Ichiro (career OBP under .380) gets on base more than Dunn (career OBP over .380). And again, Ichiro's EqA is lower than that of Adam Dunn. Just an example.

  • Dunn has a higher WARP, EqA, OBP, SLG, OPS, OPS+ (even when people claim he has played in great hitter's parks), and a slew of other offensive categories. Why? Because Dunn is a more complete hitter.

And it baffles me how you still think K's make a player bad. Just because Juan Pierre strikes out less than Albert Pujols, does that make him better?

  • mo rivera is the best closer

  • what the crap do you realize that Hank Aaron has the most home runs of all time (not counting steroids barry bonds) and the most rbis of all time. what about mickey mantle. cy young and mariano Rivera.

  • only one bench player? there are so many greats out there. why wasn't Cy Young in the starting rotation? Mariano Rivera should be your closer, considering what he's done in the postseason. where's ted williams, joe dimaggio, mickey mantle, frank robinson, roberto clemente, willie stargell, jimmie fox. so many greats out there. its impossible to make an all-time team.

  • wtf wat about mike schmitt? he was the best third baseman ever and this video fails cuz it all depends wat state u live in so u pick ur favorite

  • I Thought George Brett was a better Third baseman

  • did u watch the phillies games?

  • no cy young?

    no derek jeter?

    no ted williams?

    no mariano?

    come on dude

  • Cy Young probably should have been on the team,Honus Wagner is better then Jeter, and I think Stan Musial was better then Ted Williams, and Hoffman and Rivera is a tie so I gave it to the person with more saves

  • @Mryankee4

Derek Jeter? I'll take the wizard.

  • @tastybrownies ill take vizquel over jeter any time!!!

  • too many braves on there that really dont deserve to be there over other players. you need Ted Williams, Bob Gibson, and Whitey Ford

  • weres mark fidrich?

  • trevor hoffman over mariano rivera? he might hav more saves but the guy also has been around forver.

    mariano-4 world series championships

    hoffman-0 world series championships

    do the math

  • yeah but one player can't win a world series its not hoffman's fault him and Tiny Gwynn were the only good ones

  • I am cardinals fan and but I would chose Ted Williams over Musial as a starter. Williams lost 5 seasons shooting down fascists and and commies and still had more homeruns than Musial and hit .400 in a season. Sadly for him the Cards beat the Red Sox in the 1946 World Series denying him a ring.

  • Great song, Rush Is beast. Listen to it everyday before a basbeall game. Pretty good team you put together too.

  • Rush is awesome I seen them live last June

  • Lmao Trevor hoffman on an all time great team. Come on man

  • glad to see Hornsby at 2nd....Jackie Robinson did a lot for the sport but Hornsby was undoubtedly a better baseball player. Also glad to see Aaron in the outfield as well....LF should have been Ted Williams though instead of Musial....or better yet put Ruth in RF and Aaron in LF and screw the DH cause it's stupid anyway. biggest omission, though, is Cy Young. replace Greg Maddux with Cy and I don't really have a problem with the rotation then.

  • where is cy yong ty cobb andpete rose

  • I forgot aboutTy Cobb and for pete Rose he playe around two much

  • nice

  • Babe Ruth normally played RF. Are you kidding me do you think modern players are better than these legends! I would like to see you make an all-time team! How stupid can you be?

  • dude ure so right. babe ruth in center? what a retard

  • Manager?

  • maybe bobby cox, casey stengel, joe torre, or yogi

  • Yeah Joe Torre would have been good

  • probably

  • Mays was a better fielder, ruth was a better hitter so I put ruth at Dh

  • 120 thers an error, what about cy young?!

  • you are so weird but great video
