I don't know if it was the same brand, but we had one of these at my elementary school. It was so handicapped people could get onto the stage. I've ridden it with a couple of wheelchair kids a couple times (though I wasn't handicapped myself).

This is the cheaper, simpler and maybe more dangerous version of an actual elevator. It is intended mostly for wheelchairs, and it is not rated for freight handling.

Well, it's possible to get a pretty painful pinch if you are not careful. The idea is a person moves their wheelchair in, locks the wheels and pushes the button. Most of the time, these are keyed out because of the pinch hazard. They are not designed for more than one person, i.e. a mother and her children. That doubles in a way as well because a small child can get a painful pinch as well.
