  • Oh my god. That's really all u can say I'm speechless wow.

  • Currently doing a thesis on this excerpt of Carmen...absolutely in love with the performance...bravissimo!

  • Brought here by a delightful psycopath on a comment section for a fanfic for ponies. I have no regrets! XD

Also, this is just a beautiful piece... -_-

  • HOLY SHIT! I saw this play live!

  • great voice, inexpresive face...

  • minute 2:11 was taken from "Who's My Bitch" By the Paradiso Girls, or was it the other way around?

  • @estuchedepeluche Well seeing as Bizet wrote Carmen circa 1875, I'd say it was the other way around.

  • Why is it that when looking at the video's on the right, I see that Sesame Street's 'Orange sings Carmen' has 1.622.840 views, while this video has 'only' 333.117?

    What is happening to society!!!

  • paula lindberg

  • I love this version of the carmen opera

  • i was watching this in my music class very good i like it alot

  • I absolutely LOVE CARMEN!!! AND IM ONLY 13!!!!!

  • @DemonMan2909

damn, beat me by 1 year.

  • @DemonMan2909

    Bravo!!!

  • @DemonMan2909 nirvana haha

  • we wtched this in music^^

    i somehow like it xD

  • esta parte es preciosa

    this part is beautiful!!

  • Oh my God This is so Beautiful.

  • Well, l think that Agnes is a good singer, But... But. She always had ( this is just for young singers) The passagio niente bene. The voice changes colour when she passes from low, to medium. careful young singers, this is not good and not too beautiful. She is a good actress, l suffer when she changes the registers. But, But, Good.!

    Please admirers, forgive my opinions.

  • Interesting comment, joanabanyeres

  • l an sorry to make comments like l did, but it's just to explain to young singers how she sings, Like artist ,she is marvelous.. the voice is always pretty even when she takes big risk for the health of her voice, Also too many changes, voce di petto, OK ,but too much. l hope YT understand my statements.

  • Yes, I see your point. Enriching.

  • @CaroCount Thanks, l don't like to make these statements.

  • @joanabanyeres why to be sorry? you where completely right!

  • @moicano Thanks , l don't like to make these statements

  • Love her voice- mezzo-sopranos should always sing this part! doesn't quite sell the acting though- prefer maria ewings in that regard...

  • @nightowl2430 I have the same opinion :)

  • wow first time I've seen someone match grace bumbry's version

  • Much better than the Callas version; then again, this role was meant to sung by a Mezzo Soprano and Baltsa does one amazing job. Bizet wrote the perfect part for her, she is the DIVA for this part.

  • Me encantó!! Excelente!!

  • fantastic , pure talent

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone know why it was written in French?

  • It's in French because Bizet, the composer, was French.

  • cuz bizet is french

  • pure talent :)

  • More like French (:

  • Is this Spanish or Italian? What's it aposta be about?

  • it's french, and a really beautiful song

  • This like me more than Maria Callas, but Filipa giordano is even better than this singer.

  • haha beginner huh?

  • i liked when hey arnold did this =P

"Si je t'aime, prend garde à toi!

    (???)

    Si tu ne m'aime pas,

Si tu ne m'aime pas, je t'aime!

    (???)

    Mais, si je t'aime... "

    Si no me amas

Si no me amas, yo te amo

  • Hey whATS the name of this DVD? And where did you get it??

  • This is the opera "Carmen" by Georges Bizet, a production of The Metropolitan Opera, James Levine conducting Agnes Baltsa (Carmen), Jose Carreras (Don Jose), Leona Mitchell (Micaela) & Samuel Ramey (Escamillo). You can find it in Amazon.

  • A few hours ago? Its been a week now!

  • Excelsa interpretacion

  • this is absolutely fantastic... i think she has a great voice for this piece. I love it.

  • This the second piece I've heard her sing she's fantastic! Her chest tone is so strong, but not heavy and a great actress as well. Bravo!

    M'encanta Carmen *.*

  • This clip comes from the Metropolitan Opera production of February 1987. James Levine at the podium. Starring Agnes Baltsa as Carmen, Jose Carreras as Don Jose, Samuel Ramey as the toreador Escamillo, and Leona Mitchell as Micaela. This DVD has a treasured place in my library. Levine, Baltsa, and Ramey at their absolute primes.

  • I sang carmen with this "Crazy Greek" with Pittsburgh Opera. SHE WAS FANTASTIC. One of my biggest opera memories. THANKS AGNES!!!

  • merveilleux

  • this is from bizet

and they work in the cigar factory

  • Esto es maravilloso!!!!

  • She has a great voice for Carmen I think, though she has some shouting parts I dont like, I love it though what place was this?

  • I think it was in New York.

  • Baltsa is one of my favourite Carmens; I hate it when the part is sung by a soprano rather than a mezzo

  • I agree! Moreover, she is the perfect "FACH" for the part: a mezzo soprano "Falcon". Carmen was composed for that voice-fach; very popular in the Bizet years. "Falcon" is a high mezzo, almost sounding like a dramatic soprano. Baltsa is exactly that. Not the deep mezzo, neither a soprano and with a "ringing" quality in the voice. The ideal Carmen voice.

  • I don't like her for this part very much. Isn't she supposed to throw the flower seductively at Don Jose? I liked the way she acted out the part though...just not the voice.

  • The flower throw comes one minute later in the opera. There is music composed for it.... you dont throw it at random... Thought you would like to know...

  • great rack

  • I have this on dvd, she is so great!

  • Oh man, can you post the "chanson du toreador"(votre toast) from your dvd...that ramey's interpretation is really awesome.Thank you

  • I don't know how to post vids on youtube. i'm sorry.

  • She really acts perfectly on stage while singing. Note that her movements on stage are no easy feats.

  • i don't like her at all as carmern. if you've seen elena obraztsova doing carmen, agnes really isn't that great. don't you think?

  • I love Obraztsova's voice, especially as Carmen, but I felt that, whilst she sang it fantastically well and her interpretation was very good , it only scratched the surface in comparison to Baltsa's very viscerally exciting Carmen. That's just my opinion though!

  • oh my gosh she has such an amazing voice and so does the chorus and extras. Can you please post more videos of this production, I think this is my favorite one of Carmen.

  • Her voice is sweet and I think she fits the best for Carmen.

  • i enjoy it.good renditions.

  • this is very sweet acting of both, nice, too bad about the end.

  • Thanks checolalo! Oh yes, she is the favourite Carmen for many people everywhere, especially for us in the Far East. But I think this production from the Met is quite gloomy. Hopefully, the Vienna State Opera will release the Zefferelli production ....

  • My very favorite Carmen. Baltsa and Carreras sizzled.

    She is such a treat!
