And we take 10mg per night. This is an extreme case obviously, but I recently orally took 37.5 mg. Why so much? I didn't even realize it. I took two pills wanting only to go to sleep, and apparently took 4 more. I blacked out. I may have even gone into my own car, luckily though I did not drive anywhere. Importantly though, that was the FIRST time I'd taken it. I actually purposefully dosed 37.5 mg the following night and recorded myself, however I didn't black out or even act strangely at all really.
Thanks to lorazepam I woke up in a jail cell...Im almost glad I got pulled over after I found out after I took a couple to go to sleep I had forgotten I took them, went back took another couple, this forget/redose ended up with 9mg lorazepam in my system before my subconscious decided to go to the gas station to get a pack of cigarettes. I'm just happy I woke up in my body and not in a room with Elvis and Kurt Cobain.
This Ambien is some dangerous stuff! It made my Poppa drive his truck into a phone poll, he never even knew he got out of bed!! He is lucky to be alive!!

Ambien does not make you "sleep drive" One of the side effects of Ambien is severe amnesia. I've experienced this on several occasions and during the "trip" you're somewhat aware of your surroundings and limitedly functional.
I use to be addicted to Ambien and would take upwards of 50-60mg at a time. You build tolerance extremely quickly.

I am waking up at night apparently and i yelled at my parents really loudly for waking me up and i snapped and ate a bunch of food and i closed the windows and i wakeup with no recollection of this! My parents tell me and i go WTF! Last night i wokeup and i had eaten part of my bigmac and i was like who ate this! This pill is scary!!! idk what its gonna do next! I Dont even know im doing this stuff or remember it. Make sure you have family in your house to monitor u
The cop is like "I think it is imparing" then "most people only take a half"! I didn't realize cops had psychopharmacology training! If ambien is taken correctly, an event such as sleep driving is VERY rare. But, it does happen. I have heard other stories of people doing yard work at 3am, only to wake up (on the lawn) to not remember doing it. I think adverse reactions from taking prescribed medications would be seen differently in a court of law than a drunken drive home from a bar!

Most people don't only take a half an ambien. Ambien comes in 5mg and 10mg tablets. I take 2 10mg tables and I've seen it prescribed in higher doses. You have to take it and get into bed immediately. If you take it and remain awake while it takes affect, it can make you do things you would not normally do and may not remember including driving while on it.
@chocolatecity I agree hide your computer, b/c Ambien will cause you to make a fool of yourself. I did plenty of times as well as other unpleasant things. I found a rock hard cinnamon roll under my bed, and I don't remember when or why I put it under my bed.
This is no joke either. Once, I took ambien to sleep and I had a dream that I was in a ditch in my truck leaning against the wall, when someone walked up to my door and asked me if I had been drinking. I remember replying "No." and driving out of the ditch. When I woke up the next morning, my kitchen was trashed and my truck was parked LITERALLY in the middle of the road. I think ambien is very dangerous...
I take ambien everynight.... i have done some odd things in my sleep state, but i've never gotten behind the wheel.... thank god, but i don't think he should blame it on the drug, people like me depend on it to sleep everynight to remain productive the next day. Its his responsibility to make sure he does not have access to car keys when he takes this... thats like me getting drunk off my ass and getting behind teh wheel and then blaming it on the beer maker....
taking more than two doesnt affect you too much. And yes, you can go kinda crazy with ambien, but what do people think, its a fucking sleeping pill, YOU SHOULD TAKE IT AND GO TO BED. If you stay up of course you are probably going to do some crazy shit. I did.
It's a shame that individuals our culture have come to blame companies for the effects of recreational abuse like this. Sure the companies are often corrupt, but this is just nonsense. People who need sleep aids and are responsible enough to think about how they use them should not have to pay the price for this kind of foolishness.
This dude treated Ambien as if it was a benzo. He wanted to chill out and wind down after a hard days work. He most likely, as a pharmaceutical rep, had much experience with benzos such as Xanax and was familiar with the effects. However, Ambien is a whole different monster, He learnt this the hard way.
P.S. Two ambien will not cause these ridiculous effects, he most likely popped quite a few. Also, one ambien is usually the cap for what doctors will prescribe.

I litterally just took ambien. I take it before bed every night. If I don't go to sleep right away I hallucinate a bit. Kinda weird, but I'm in control of my actions. I might of sleepwalked before and not known it. It's never caused me problems before tho. It scared me at first though. I didn't know why I was hallucinating. I thought a ghost was in my room or something moving things lol.

@dotnrlg6 I doubt he took the Ambien and decided to go driving while he was still sober. What can happen is you take Ambien and go to bed, but as it sets in, you can decide to get up, and make some pretty bad decisions. That's mostly because while you're on it, you have little to no awareness that you're being influenced by it, and that you're not sober. You know you're definitely out of character, but it doesn't feel out of place. You feel like every hallucination is completely normal.
I've been on Ambien for two years. Rarely do I remember my goings-ons a little after I take it. I wake up in the morning and see strange crap like candy wrappings all over the place and shit I'd prefer not to mention. If you don't go to bed like you're supposed to, YOU GET HIGH! So take the proper precautions. Hide your phone and your computer for Pete's sake! LOL! Becuz you will make an ass of yourself!

My boyfriend trips out on Ambein he talks about all this crazy stuff and does very weird things when he's on it and has no recollection of what he did the following night. He hides his weapons he owns and his keys because he's afraid he will do something dumb while on the drug.

Ambien will make you do things (walk, drive, eat, etc.) while sleeping because it keeps the frontal lobe activated, whereas most pills of this nature (sleepers, benzos, etc.) do not affect the frontal lobe, but block the synapses in your brain, more like a paralytic effect than that of ambien. KNOW YOURSELF BE4 U FUCK WIT SHIT

12 Ambiens wouldn't kill someone, it's more likely they'd harm themselves or someone though while under the influence. I cant imagine a person coming out perfect though after taking that kind of a dose. I'd guess the person would have brain damage, but would live.
it will not kill you at all, but you gonna do stupid things that's for sure. if it kills you it wil be from a car crash or falling of a building... or something like that. once i was on it and ate half a box (about 15)(10mg!!!)
i take 2 of them when i need to. and ate the rest while under the influince of it. never take them if your not laying in bed allready. anyway i can't remember anything that night and friends told me they got weird emails and i even called my wifes father.
I am totally sympathetic, have had a LOT of personal experience in this area. I went down the list of these types of medications after having many extreme side effects and having expressed concerns with my physician each and every time. In the end, I got sold on another name, a handful of free samples and a 30 day script. In the end, I did end up with a DUI while working in Law Enforcement. I did not lost my job over it, just my dignity. Other countries are having negative issues as well.
Alot of people won't use it correctly. Some will take it and stay up waiting until they get sleepy instead of going to bed...others may have drinks before hand and then think it's okay to take it. He admitted to the cop that he took two...and had drinks. So he took double his prescription plus he drank with it. This guy is an idiot. There's a reason for dose directions.
When you drink you will show on a BAC machine. He can also have a blood test. Ambien has been known to do this but I want to see the blood test regarding this. Also the police officer told him "most people take half" that police officer is not a doctor and shouldn't make that comment. It seemed bias. I think they're both in the wrong.
Dad didn't have anything to drink that night, and we know this because there was only one thing alcoholic in the whole house and it hadn't been opened. He came in and told my sister that he was going to pick up a friend and acted normally but recalls nothing from that night except a few seconds of the sobriety test. I don't believe he was in the wrong at all as this was before the FCC required Ambien to place a warning on their label stating that sleep driving is a possible side effect.
Chronic Insomnia can literally kill you, by wearing down teh body , and do to hormone problems. So Ambien can be a miracle drug for those people who really need it. . It shouldn't be used by people that don't really need to get adequate sleep to mantain basic health. And like any drug.. or even herb, it has some bad side effects for some people.
Ambein is amazing, it helps me sleep. Nothing Helped me before it. I slept walked before, and now I don't. BTW: It is actually a defense to be asleep while committing crimes. For example, a 34-year old man raped an 18 year old while asleep. He was found not guilty due to his sleep.
I took ambian many years ago and did sleep drive. I hit two cars and went to a book store and bought a cd. When I came out I was confronted by several police. They asked if they could drive me home and I said if they did I would kill myself. They asked if I wanted to got to the drunk tank or a mental hospital. I was taken to parkland hospital. TIPS.) Take ambien with water on am empty stomach so it will process faster. Don't start or be in the middle of tasks after consuming ambien. Wait 10 minutes or so and just go to sleep with the TV off. I promise this will work friends..
I was given this drug in 1985 in salt lake city utah. Then it was called HALCION and it was like 10 times stronger than you get now. It was a brand new drug and I was a genie pig. I lost my wife and 6 kids and had a complete personality change. I also lost 20 years of memory. When I started coming to, way too much time passed for me to gain damages. Is there a lawyer helping in these cases?
I took my ambien one night a couple months ago and went to sleep. Turns out, I actually drove to my friends house (which was just across the highway, thankfully) and I chilled with them until around 6am, when I started wondering how the hell I'd gotten there. After that, I have my mom hide my car keys. I'm glad I wasn't pulled over cause I would have gotten a DUI a week before my 21st birthday. DO NOT WANT! And yes, I am writing this while on my ambien :D
It's never truly the drug, it's the person consuming it. Any drug has different results with every person. You have to put in certain factors into play such as tolerance and addictive personalities with any type of drug. I gained a huge tolerance to these and ended up taking around four 10 mg pills over a period of a few hours and never had any of the hallucinations or memory loss or even any impaired judgement, like other people have experienced. It used to take only one, but my tolerance rose.
He will never win the class action lawsuit. The makers of the drug have clearly outlined the risks and unfortunately, he probably exceeded the recommended dosage. There are too many people abusing Ambien and then claiming they are waking up and doing things they aren't aware of. I've been on Ambien for almost a month, my mom for over 2 years and we've never had a problem. Whenever I've woken up, even just to use the restroom, I've been fully conscious and actually can't fall back asleep.
Alright, this is a response to both of you. A) This happened before they put the warning on the label that it "May cause sleep driving." B) He did not exceed his recommended dosage. C) He was ASLEEP, he did not do this CONSCIOUSLY after taking the Ambien, and yes, that CAN actually happen.

I weigh 230, and my prescribed dosage (10mg / 1 pill) is enough to make me trip balls and fall asleep. Taking 2 is overkill. Taking 2 Ambien and drinking is pretty stupid. Taking 2Ambien, drinking, and then going for a drive? Fucking retarded.

@hoshkins ambien is powerful. i take 3 to 4 oval shaped ones to go to sleep. i remember one night i took 3 for the 1st time i puked and then went and made a pizza
Ambien has absolutely no threat of addiction when taken as directed. People that have bad experiences with Ambien are people that are easily led and very weak willed. They arent the type of people who should be taking any type of perscription drug.
Dad didn't take this as a party drug. He took it to go to sleep. He is not weak willed and even less easily led. This isn't a problem of addiction in the first place however, as dad had no dependency on the drug whatsoever.
It amazes me that many older politicians (including McCain) and some first responders are regular users of this drug. ABC NEWS had a report on it this spring (you can google it), but no one seemed to pay any attention.

This dude treated Ambien as if it was a benzo. He wanted to chill out and wind down after a hard days work. He most likely, as a pharmaceutical rep, had much experience with benzos such as Xanax and was familiar with the effects. However, Ambien is a whole different monster, He learnt this the hard way.
P.S. Two ambien will not cause these ridiculous effects, he most likely popped quite a few. Also, one ambien is usually the cap for what doctors will prescribe.

I litterally just took ambien. I take it before bed every night. If I don't go to sleep right away I hallucinate a bit. Kinda weird, but I'm in control of my actions. I might of sleepwalked before and not known it. It's never caused me problems before tho. It scared me at first though. I didn't know why I was hallucinating. I thought a ghost was in my room or something moving things lol.

It's similar to alcohol like how your judgement and reasoning go out the window, and you end up driving. But on Ambien you really don't care and can pretty much pull it off wayyy better than alcohol.

Like, a month ago my girlfriend and I took ambien and i made her drive, we were in a thunderbird but the whole time i thought we were in like an F-350 truck. she drove off the road. What can happen is you take Ambien and go to bed, but as it sets in, you can decide to get up, and make some pretty bad decisions. That's mostly because while you're on it, you have little to no awareness that you're being influenced by it, and that you're not sober. You know you're definitely out of character, but it doesn't feel out of place. You feel like every hallucination is completely normal.

I've been on Ambien for two years. Rarely do I remember my goings-ons a little after I take it. I wake up in the morning and see strange crap like candy wrappings all over the place and shit I'd prefer not to mention. If you don't go to bed like you're supposed to, YOU GET HIGH! My boyfriend trips out on Ambein he talks about all this crazy stuff and does very weird things when he's on it and has no recollection of what he did the following night. He hides his weapons he owns and his keys because he's afraid he will do something dumb while on the drug.

Ambien will make you do things (walk, drive, eat, etc.) while sleeping because it keeps the frontal lobe activated, whereas most pills of this nature (sleepers, benzos, etc.) do not affect the frontal lobe, but block the synapses in your brain, more like a paralytic effect than that of ambien. KNOW YOURSELF BE4 U FUCK WIT SHIT

I am totally sympathetic, have had a LOT of personal experience in this area. I went down the list of these types of medications after having many extreme side effects and having expressed concerns with my physician each and every time. In the end, I got sold on another name, a handful of free samples and a 30 day script. In the end, I did end up with a DUI while working in Law Enforcement. I did not lost my job over it, just my dignity. Other countries are having negative issues as well.

Alot of people won't use it correctly. Some will take it and stay up waiting until they get sleepy instead of going to bed...others may have drinks before hand and then think it's okay to take it. He admitted to the cop that he took two...and had drinks. So he took double his prescription plus he drank with it. This guy is an idiot. There's a reason for dose directions.

When you drink you will show on a BAC machine. He can also have a blood test. Ambien has been known to do this but I want to see the blood test regarding this. Also the police officer told him "most people take half" that police officer is not a doctor and shouldn't make that comment. It seemed bias. I think they're both in the wrong.

Dad didn't have anything to drink that night, and we know this because there was only one thing alcoholic in the whole house and it hadn't been opened. He came in and told my sister that he was going to pick up a friend and acted normally but recalls nothing from that night except a few seconds of the sobriety test. I don't believe he was in the wrong at all as this was before the FCC required Ambien to place a warning on their label stating that sleep driving is a possible side effect.

Chronic Insomnia can literally kill you, by wearing down teh body , and do to hormone problems. So Ambien can be a miracle drug for those people who really need it. . It shouldn't be used by people that don't really need to get adequate sleep to mantain basic health. And like any drug.. or even herb, it has some bad side effects for some people.

Ambein is amazing, it helps me sleep. Nothing Helped me before it. I slept walked before, and now I don't. BTW: It is actually a defense to be asleep while committing crimes. For example, a 34-year old man raped an 18 year old while asleep. He was found not guilty due to his sleep.

I took ambian many years ago and did sleep drive. I hit two cars and went to a book store and bought a cd. When I came out I was confronted by several police. They asked if they could drive me home and I said if they did I would kill myself. They asked if I wanted to got to the drunk tank or a mental hospital. I was taken to parkland hospital. This is the first thread of posts that are serious or comming to a common grounds or goal. Anwya, I have taken ambien on and off for 7 years, It has alwas workked great with the 10 mg pill, sometime it take a little over an hour to kcik in.
TIPS.) Take ambien with water on am empty stomach so it will process faster. Don't start or be in the middle of tasks after consuming ambien. Wait 10 minutes or so and just go to sleep with the TV off. I promise this will work friends..

I was given this drug in 1985 in salt lake city utah. Then it was called HALCION and it was like 10 times stronger than you get now. It was a brand new drug and I was a genie pig. I lost my wife and 6 kids and had a complete personality change. I also lost 20 years of memory. When I started coming to, way too much time passed for me to gain damages. Is there a lawyer helping in these cases?

I took my ambien one night a couple months ago and went to sleep. Turns out, I actually drove to my friends house (which was just across the highway, thankfully) and I chilled with them until around 6am, when I started wondering how the hell I'd gotten there. After that, I have my mom hide my car keys. I'm glad I wasn't pulled over cause I would have gotten a DUI a week before my 21st birthday. DO NOT WANT! And yes, I am writing this while on my ambien :D

It's never truly the drug, it's the person consuming it. Any drug has different results with every person. You have to put in certain factors into play such as tolerance and addictive personalities with any type of drug. I gained a huge tolerance to these and ended up taking around four 10 mg pills over a period of a few hours and never had any of the hallucinations or memory loss or even any impaired judgement, like other people have experienced. It used to take only one, but my tolerance rose.

He will never win the class action lawsuit. The makers of the drug have clearly outlined the risks and unfortunately, he probably exceeded the recommended dosage. There are too many people abusing Ambien and then claiming they are waking up and doing things they aren't aware of. I've been on Ambien for almost a month, my mom for over 2 years and we've never had a problem. Whenever I've woken up, even just to use the restroom, I've been fully conscious and actually can't fall back asleep.

Alright, this is a response to both of you. A) This happened before they put the warning on the label that it "May cause sleep driving." B) He did not exceed his recommended dosage. C) He was ASLEEP, he did not do this CONSCIOUSLY after taking the Ambien, and yes, that CAN actually happen.
