  • "This is like a movie fight"

    2:14

  • bang ta da head, bang ta da body.

den go back n bang ta da head.

  • shea neary DISLIKED this...

  • You notice the actor that played SHEA NEARY looks a lot like the real guy?

  • HEAD... BODY...HEAD.... BODY...

  • The movie was right on in the fights and what happened.

  • the art of the body punch on full display by one of its great practioners ,irish micky ward in full cry devastating

  • id rather watch a manny paquio fight more straight up fighting rather than round 3 long fighting

  • Damn that movie was accurate on the fight

  • the celebration is as the same goddamnnnnn!

  • he's definitely not boring, great fighter, great heart, but not that great of a boxer. he's been in the best, most exciting fights, and this is no exception

  • 3:48 you can see Dicky shouting THIS IS IT!!! THIS IS IT!!!

  • micky vs gayweather

  • Great fight, two great fighters, the ref did not get involved too much.... fantastic night of boxing, saw it live.

  • they look like each other and they fight like each other.

  • The thing about it is it doesn't matter where you're from... The question is do you have the heart & skill for the sport... What made Micky Ward a stand out was his heart in the ring and the fact he put people on the mat with a diff tactic than anyone else... He did it with a left hook from hell straight to the body... Most hit with it could do nothing but freeze up...

  • @EmeraldIsleStar So you have some B fighter who beat a B fighter who beat some B fighters.

    Excellent for you.....I guess.....

  • Mickey Ward was far from the greatest fighter of all time, but he had more heart than most. Definitely one of the more inspirational boxers to step into the ring. And fights like this, or especially those against Gatti, are really some of my favorite ring battles ever. Good stuff.

  • 1:35 thats some good slippin for a brawler he likes to get hit!

  • yeap i just saw the movie !!! we need more fighters like Mickey and Gatti true legends!!!!

  • Ward is a beast, and seem like such a great guy too, these left hooks to the body are something! One of his best performance. he was really for this fight!

  • Ward was an average fighter ( c fighter). There was nothing special about his skills. But he was all heart with a great left hook.

  • @demnice he is a C boxer, but he is an A warrior/fighter .....

  • @demnice i would say d level boxer but he had great heart and chin

  • Head body, head body!!!

  • I love how the a lot of the commentators dialogue is the same in The Fighter

  • @mystico21p well now we have to say don't those mexicans like digging it to the body like Irishmen lol!!!!!!!

  • The Irish and Mexicans always give the best performances ! if there were more fighters like this then boxing would still be king !

  • Great heart

  • was always a gatti fan, but how can you be a gatti fan and NOT a ward fan? not a huge boxing know it all, but seen my share of fights. no guttier warriors have yet to enter the ring, the beatings these guys took, and the respect for the other man. may not ever see it again.....

  • Honourless you talk some shit and spell even worse ! Neary is from Liverpool not some Mick his name is jimmy but takes his dads name Shea who was Irish as many of us are from Liverpool !!! You really should do your homework or go back to school to spell ! And as the film is pure Hollywood neary didn't refuse to touch wards gloves it was other way round !

  • @NOODLES38 i hate how they fuck stories up. they change already great stories in hollywood to make a movie when if they just stuck with the truth it could make for just as goof of a movie.

  • @nutsack666 lol? Irish and Mexicans give the same performance? Cmon... the Irish are hopeless in Boxing, except very few of them.

  • @k4n31985 you obviously dont know your history...where do you think the fighting irish come from?John L sullivan, gentlemen jim corbett, bob fitzsimmons, jack dempsey, gene tunney, billy conn, sailor tom sharkey, bill brennen, jimmy braddock, and thats just off the top of my head. mexican and irish fighters are 'generally' stylistically brawlers who take 3 to give one...

  • @Ricky42791 Are = present tense. I didn't say "have always been" I said they ARE. Which means now (and in the past few years, maybe even decades)... Plus don't be ridiculous... Jack Dempsey was an American of Irish heritage, not Irish. He was taught how to box in the US, he lived in the US, and he was born in the US, making him an AMERICAN boxer, not an Irish boxer. And so were pretty much all the guys you mentioned. Irish nowadays are a joke. Especially Pikeys "do ya box m8?!" hoppin up&down...

  • @k4n31985 Dont lecture me with english on youtube, and I thought you were speaking generally what ever ethnic group is in the most poverty succeeds the most as a whole in boxing The irish were the first group followed by blacks and italians and now latino.so in that first era the irish completley dominated boxing and micky wards nickname was IRISH even though he's american we celebrate our roots in america and irish blood is irish blood

  • @Ricky42791 bla bla bla. Unlike you I've been to the UK (England & NI) and Ireland. They laugh at you "Irish" Americans and call you plastic paddies. In fact the Irish guys I've spoken to said they pretty much hate it when you mugs come over to Dublin and put on your fake ass Irish accents, and think you're irish when some great grandfather of yours was Irish.. Plastic Paddy.

  • Comment removed

  • @Ricky42791 and most of these so called "irish" were BORN, RAISED, AND TRAINED IN THE USA. If they had been taught how to box in Ireland, they wouldn't have gotten as far, cause your coach and your sparring partners quality are also a big factor in how far you make it in the sport.

  • @nutsack666 sorry the comment was meant for sixfouimpala

  • @nutsack666 they had to change it, to make the movie ending more exciting.. in reality Neary had no chance of winning this fight, was dominated for all the rounds, so they had to create some suspense in the movie by doing a knockdown that didnt happen etc... I agree it's not as realistic, and a tarnish on micky ward's real story, as not everyone takes the time/interest to watch the real fight, but it created suspense (well not for me, as Ive known Ward before the movie cause of thegatti trilogy)

  • Excellent fighter.

  • I just ate a twix

  • He sure isn't pretty but he definitely gets the job done and there is no quitting in this guy. He definitely comes to fight. Boy does he love digging those left hooks to the body like a Mexican.

  • He kept looking at Neary like, come on bro we boxing, or WE BOXING??

  • Ward had one of THE best keft hooks to the body I've ever seen. Haven't seen one to match it since.

  • thumbs up if "the fighter" brought u here

  • wait... that's not Mark Whalberg

  • They left all the later fights out of the movie b/c the movie only documented the part of his life after his first boxing era ended with four losses. He was successful early on in his career until he lost 4 fights in a row and went back to working a day job. The movie just chronicles his re-ascent to prominence through this, the Neary, fight b/c he won a belt from it.

  • "Head, body. Head, body."

  • It's funny, I thought Wahlberg seemed like too much of an arm-puncher during The Fighter, but Ward seems like an arm-puncher too.

  • @travesham Micky Ward an arm puncher? what rubbish he puts plenty of torque in his punches, thats why he stopped 29 victims in 39 wins. Don"t compare the nonsense Wahlberg was doing in the fighter. When Zab Judah boxed Ward he said a body shot Micky through left him in agony, like he had been stabbed! Thats not an arm puncher...

  • Movie was great, other than having announcers call jabs when there weren't any, call hook when it's really an uppercut, etc., and the sound of the punches was so obviously fake it kind of detracted from the fight scenes. Aside from that, it was really worthwhile. But did anybody else think it was a bad decision to leave out the Gatti fights? Anybody who knows boxing knows Ward really made his reputation as much with the Gatti fights as he did with the small-org WBU title (I'd say more so).

  • @emncaity

Also...I mean, I know you can't include everything in a biopic, but to completely ignore the Judah fight? Why? Or did I miss it? And what about the Augustus fight, or the way he was in and out with title fights for severa years?

  • Yep watching "The Fighter"... Needed to pause... Needed to youtube! :)

  • WHOS THE MAN

    micky ward is the man

  • micky ward is all that is great in the ring

  • Watching The Fighter now... wanted to see how the "Movie fight".. compared to the real thing

  • Mark Walberg looks like Ward not just fighting but fisicaly too. Great fight by the way.

  • Micky stay out fokin´ ropes

just remember, head, body, head, body!!!

  • Thumbs up if you knew about this fight long before the fighter was made

  • @boxer201000 Good for you.

  • @Honorless83 bash him up, what the Irishman from Liverpool England! Doesn"t Micky call himself Irish Micky Ward. I understand your pain after Calzaghe beat Jeff Lacy, Bernard Hopkins & Roy Jones. lol....

  • I've been a life long boxing fan and remember watching this fight as a Neary fan, I hadn't seen much of Ward at the time of the bout and thought Neary had enough to deal with him. Ward done a great job though and what a fight they put on for us that night. It was on a Naz undercard and the fight of the night IMO.

  • Wow the movie was amazingly accurate. It sounds like the same commentators too.

  • the movie was amazing... this is an awesome fight!...

  • One of my favourite fights from the 90's, bucnh of us watched it in Cork, great fight. Neary was a hard frickin bastard, Ward did excellent to beat win this

  • In the movie Neary says "He's the Euro Arturo Gatti" ...... as a tribute, Dickie should have have told him, "Your good but your no Gatti!!"

  • 2:14 "This is like a movie fight."

    Indeed it is.

  • my favourite fighter, and one of his great fights. good to see that the movie brought him a few more fans.

  • Nice fight, just like the movie.

  • i thought the film was crap...

  • selective clips - Neary was winning this fight going into the eighth

  • got half way through watching and am compelled to post... OMG what a great fight!

  • nearu should have boxed more

  • watched the movie "the fighter" and had to look up this fight lol i'm not a boxing fan but boy i wish i was when mickey was still boxing

  • @TBONE889 You should look up his fight with Emanuel Augustus(Burton) and Reggie Green!

  • @TBONE889 Lol, i gotta agree with you on that. Watching this was impressive. These guys can take a fucking punch lmao.

  • @TBONE889 Mate the first micky ward fight I ever watched was the 1st gatti fight. I just happened to turn the TV over and the giht was on, it was one of the most epic fights I've ever seen. From that day on I was a micky ward fan, and every fight watched after that was fantastic. I went and found all his previous fights. The guy has serious heart and guts.
