This version and Otis Redding's version are the only two I've heard that really capture the spirit of Sam Cooke's original version. Its probably no small coincidence that Booker T & the MGs played the instrumentation for this song for both Al and Otis. Truly spectacular rendition of a timeless classic. Thanks for posting this.

I don't think this was one of the top live performances ever. IT IS THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCE OF ANY SONG BY ANY ARTIST!! I saw it the night the R/R Concert, I bought the CD and even 15 years later, I get goose bumps when I here this. Many pass over Al as a great African American performer. James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding... The competition is the elite of the elite, but no one can grind it out night after night like Al. Bring on the Love Al!!

This was shown on HBO -- Cleveland Ohio, celebrating the grand opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in September of 1995. I sat and watched, with my mouth open, and went out and got a LOT of Al Green records afterwards. This is probably my all-time favorite live performance, by anybody, period.
