@ottoman1453ful so the emperor had no choice to folow the path that walk king Leonidas in Thermopylae in 480bc, witch is no other that a free life or death in the battle, an example that folowed many Greeks in the years to come. he could leave hith money but stay to face the fate of his people. so the words of Mehmet II you posting it just show how diferent it was the soul of the turkish sultan with the soul of the greek emperor. we always remember the leader who was protecting high ideals

@ottoman1453ful more than a leader who was victorius but at the same time he was hursh, brutal, and small pety soul, in other words a tyrant. if you cannot see the diference between Mehmet I and Konstantine XI words, it just confirm tha huge cultural diferent between the 2 nations. you would really prefer to serve under a leader like konstantine rather than mehmet in reality, mehmet would have his jannisaries kill you if you retreat, konstantine would die with you!

@ottoman1453ful the only reason that konstantinople fell it was simply that the empire was declined, not becouse the quran say it, just the muslims have it, how i can say it, a repressed desire, becouse when islam was at it peek of its power during the arab conquest period, Konstantinople was stood their 2 sieges, in 674-678 and the severe 717-718, so the plans of conquering the christian empire, the strongest kingdom of the europe at that time, was cancelled by the "queen of cities"

@ottoman1453ful the city it self "burried" islam dreams and hopes for continued conquests in europe. and alltough islam retained the initiative in the wars, the empire it would not be in danger, and after 3 centuries of wars, it had again its times of prosper in the 10th century, and gained the upper hand wile the Abbasid chaliphate was in decline,
and again when the seljuks arrivein the asia minor, it seems that they fullfilled the "islam dream" of conquering konstantinople, but in the end

@ottoman1453ful they declined too, having only 1/3 of asia minor in the end, and starting to rely on turkoman mercenery tribes. so this repressed desire was starting to haunt the muslim leaders. just the appear of the ottomans was at the "right" moment when the empire was a mare shadow of its past and in slow decline. if the ottomans apear in the region when it was prosperus like when Basil II was emperor with his well "oiled" army and the state in prime, the ottomans would remained an emirate
