  • 26 are failed guitarists

  • I have been a part of the top level of the Austin Texas Blues scene, been part of the Antone's musical family back when Clifford was alive, and toured the world with 2 of the biggest Blues legends from Texas. I say that so that you'll know that I know the real thing when I hear it - real and natural soul ! And I'm telling you - you can really play !!! Your touch, sensitivity, time, and raw power is not just a copy, it's the real thing !

  • Pretty awesome. Although Stevie like, the last half of the song behind his back! Your guitar skills still totally blow me, this one of the better covers I have heard of this song. Nice job. Out of curiosity, what is your setup? Amp, strat, effects?

  • What size strings you got there man? Im takin a wack at 11s. Thanks man. Maybe we'll jam someday. Peace. -Cody Lee Meece

  • Awesome. I luv it.

  • wow, that pretty close to note for note, nide job, thanks for making me feel like I suck. u rock!!

  • Man, you're amazing, I hope I can play this as well as you can someday.

  • Nice air Guitar!

  • Damm u can play, nice work!

  • excellente job man....great great great.....

  • is that the american special hss?

  • yo u got a tab for 0.54 - 1.03

  • the best recreation of this song we'll ever hear, i think.

  • Sounds amazing! Did you learn the song by ear or did you use some notation?

  • makes it look easy, trust me this is one of the most difficult songs to perform, his touch is very very good

all how you play it, and srv makes it looks so easy and when you try to play at that speed with that feel you start to see how he was a master. oh and try singing to when you lay his stuff makes it even harder

  • Great playing. It really doesn't matter that it's not 'note for note'. Stevie would never have played it the same twice anyway

  • hey Jas I know what you mean but it doesnt matter its still good and the title to the video is "My SRV Rendition" so he can note include all of the note or heck add a couple still pretty good IMHO

  • For anyone interested there is a transcription of this song in the Hal Leonard music & tab book " Blues At Sunrise ". Plus 9 other S.R.V. songs. Check it out & see how many notes this kid skipped and got wrong.

  • can you play this ??? IT DOESNT MATTER!! ROCKS PEOPLES EYEBROW! BEOOTCH!

  • Good job. Not very accurate but, that don't really matter.

  • awesome. Could you a lesson about srv turnarounds? Show us some of his classical runs :) You rock!

  • If you dont mind me asking, why do you use the squire? (Honest question) Great playing by the way!!

  • What gauge strings are you using?

  • Damn that part from 0:53 - 1:02 has been killing me for the past 30 mins but this vid helps demystify it and some other parts somewhat. Good post.

  • Andy? :-)

I'll go ahead and make that instructional for you - It'll be 10 minutes long or so.

    Check my blog for updates.

  • Mmm well I'm not Andy but I think you intended to reply to me, no? Or if not I wouldn't have got that comment reply message I think ?__?

Anyways if you did it lesson it would be much appreciated, I figured out the lick by ear but it's always nice to have something to check against.

Keep up the great stuff man.

    Peace

  • Hahaha - Yeah someone who commented on my blog post requested I do the same exact bit that you wanted (so I erroneously made the connection).

Yeah the video will be up by Thursday or so if you're interested. Like you said: a good reference :-)

  • how do you play the lick on 4:48...im trying to use my dvd to learn the song instead of a tab, but that is just killing me!

  • fantastic !

  • nice !!!

  • the reason you don't get it is because it's not a joke. it's actually him playing. and it's very good.

  • So why does he miss the first stab although you can hear it? Why is Stevie's voice on the beginning? That aside, he is good

  • lol. both questions can be explained with on anwser. he's playing with the recording to hear the tempo, singing, and backgrounds. and yes he is.

  • fine, now play it behind your back and coked outta your mind

  • @Quadropheniac Hahaha, yea!

  • this is fantastic

  • what amp used??

  • drival101, find the Back tracks for this, everything on it but the guitar. From a fellow SRV worshipper

  • you people must be stupid or not even play guitar cause this kid isnt even close to hittin note for note in this song and i bet he cant even solo on his own shit. pathetic.....let me see ya post one of just you playin with not even a backing track phaa...

  • What's with all the hate?? Geez. jealous much??!!

  • I get what he's saying. The stereo covers his mistakes up.

  • I get that, but look how malicious he is being towards this kid. Pathetic.

  • Yeah he is being pretty sorry, hating on someone for doing something they love.

  • Most of the great players began by learning note-for-note solos by their role models - including Stevie Ray Vaughan, who talked about learning Lonnie Mack's "Wham" until he could play along exactly like the record.

Then you use those skills to do your own thing, whenever you feel like it. Negative comments are just playa hatin'. This guy is dynamite.

  • Did you learn this by ear?

  • nice work you have some skills. except you have the actual track playing in the background... dilutes what is your playing and what is stevies...especially in the fast parts..

    keep on rocking bud

  • Bloody awesome dude. Fuck the nay sayers. Your good and I will NEVER get sick of listening to Stevie or anyone who enjoys and plays his music.

  • No matter what so are u a talented young man!! Good luck in the future man!!

  • If this guy had a bass player, drums, and sombody who could sing like Stevie, i would go to see him play this rendition live. No Doubt.

  • its easy to copy another great person... but its harder to admit that even though you cant be part of them you can be great on your own...

  • Excellent job! No doubt you will be rockin' for a long time to come.

    mightybright1

  • you really must be great man. Let's hear one your masterpieces

  • No one got enough of SRV when he was alive, so i feel anyone who wants to jam to his music, i jam to it every day. dont like it, dont type in SRV cover on your search bar

  • the "srv thing " I was reffering to is everyone trying to be him. Or sound like him.. There are only a choice few that can do it. I fell into the "i want to be SRV" stuff. But since moved on to being myself. Thats probably what Stevie would want anyway. And as far as searching for SRV covers ? I wasn't i just punched in SRV and got a bunch of covers/..

  • Are you fucking kidding me? This is the closest to 'sounding like SRV' that I have ever heard in my life. I consider him one of the choice few you refer to.

Also, you shouldn't be talking like you know exactly what 'Stevie would want', because no one really has a clue as to what he would want people to do with his music or his sound.

  • No i'm not kidding you. If this is the closest to stevie's sound you have heard..Than get your ears checked. I heard stevie in an interview tell learning guitarists to "just be yourself". if you wan't to impress people than shut the stereo off and turn your amp up and play.

  • Again is anyone out there getting sick of the whole SRV thing? The only person that can play SRV is SRV! Or TommyK Jr Look him up.. Other than that the others are just wanna be's. Damn it people! STOP IT!

  • No we are NOT!! and there a lot of WEs. I think it is amazing that this kid can even emulate SRV as close as he does. That however, is not what this kid is all about. Right now he is just learning from the greats. Stevie did the same thing. When he is done keep your eyes open because if it goes right he is going to be something else. I also believe to date the only guitarist that can get close to that same kind of tone and energy in his sound is Chris Duarte and actually this kid. LOok him up.

  • Nobody is even in the same building with SRV.

    Nobody touches him.

  • What strat is that?

  • Fucking great job, right on!

  • you are a blues god. i can't wait to hear some original stuff.

    truly amazing.

  • That was flawless!

  • Your vibrato is beautiful.

  • Damn fine playing...damn fine!

  • inspiring

  • that was fucking AWSOME man! great work! I hope you have some original playing up too.. (im about to look)

  • you can download the tabs for GuitarPro in Gp3,Gp4 extension

  • Do you have the tabs for that? Or just by ear? There are a lot of fast notes in there for just ear!

  • In my opinion, for some songs it's easier to learn by ear rather than by tabs. I think this song is sort one of those; plus it's hard to get a really accurate tab because this song is a bit different every time Stevie plays it.

  • ahhh what fuck you got it note by note your amazing is that a tiwn with a ts9??? cuz i got a ts-808 and its amazing but...yeah

  • Nam! how long did you work on that tune ;-D

  • what no playing behind the back?

haha I'm just bustin your chops man your friggen good as hell.

  • karl... what about singing?

Men.. i've been hearing you since one of your 1st posts ( wich introduced me to luther alisson )... men you rule...just hear your "bad news" version... it´s even better than luther himself....

you don´t have to be a great singer... just work on tune and there you are... i think the world must here you!

    Good luck

  • man you are great that is not easy to do

  • You're a great player man. What was the volume at on the twin and what were the settings on that ts9dx and amp?

  • Great feeling. The finger movement looks just like Stevie. 5/5. RIP SRV.

  • he was not stealing his song he was entertaining us you moran shut up and quit being jealous because this guy smokes you

  • ummm? I dont know? bit of you, mostly Stevie. Turn S.R.V off & lets here the recorded version from you, see if you have the goods man.

  • UBeaut, where have you been? Look at his "Here's Proof" or his "Little Wing w/o backing" or his "Voodoo Chile my SRV rendition" and then shut up. Or maybe apologize for doubting.

  • some of us work man. I watched it,i posted a message, If he didnt get it? I said i stand corrected. its not uncommon to post challeges on youtube man. I wanted to hear Tex/flood the recorded version without backup.I wouldnt ask someone who was shit now would I?

  • stfu

  • haha 1957fenderstrat, you're friggen everywhere. every SRV-related video, i see your comments. by the the way, seeing as im already posting this, do you have any more uploadable footage from that show that you posted a "life without you" video of?

  • hmm. There was a texas flood w/ b.b. king. But thats uploaded. There were a few with just stevie. Ill look.

  • yea no rush, i just havent seen much from that show and if you're willing it would be appreciate, thanks :)

  • alright. And yes im everywhere!

  • that's great man :P Ihave never seen that anywhone that plays perfectly like SRV that plays xd ;)

  • thanks for learning the thing and just goin through the motions, now all you need to copy is his feel and vocals, your still a school boy needen attention

  • Dude, if that's really you on the ax, it's damn close to SRV. Not bad, not bad at all. From an old man, I go back to Bessie Smith. BTW, is that a Fender?

  • Thats a Gibson flying V

  • i know that you are joking. lol

  • Kick butt as always !

  • Never did like painting by numbers :)

  • thats on the money nice work!

  • you suck... cant play it behind your back...

    hahaah jk!

  • Jimmyjubejube, how much do you want to bet? Watch him on Thrill is Gone behind his neck when he was just a kid. Please post response after watching it. Then you can apologize to him. He'll probably forgive you...

  • it wasnt behind his back! he sucks even more.

(by the way... because you are so very slow, i will say it again: hahahah jk!)

  • i can play this on the ipod but not guitar! wel done

i am a drummer tho and year on guitar mens im not exactly stevie yet

fantastic job 5 er for you

  • what kind of guitar is that, i WANT IT

  • It's just a Squier Strat.

  • modified

  • wow i would buy you a shoe for that...fantastic kid :) :)

  • ofcourse he can do it without the recording. keep it up ur awsome

  • can you do it without the actual recording in the back?

  • damn dude you are fuckin nuts. that is outrages, keep it up man

  • It's too bad you didn't play the end part behind your back.

  • You rock man. And you MUST have a photographic memory to get that off so well AND lots of practice too. Well done mate.

  • Fan-friggon-tastic!!!

  • i was just wondering what kind of strat that was

  • then being squash by another dead bunny thats drving a pickup truck that was mexican immigrants in the back, like bunny immigrants... with funny hats...

  • stratocaster5 - What? Are you all there? Hello...

  • This guy really did his blues homework!

  • thats pretty long

  • Love your tone man- great playing

  • where did you learn how to play texas flood? was it tabs because i cant find any that sound like the actual song.

  • he obviously sat and listened to this song like 10000 times to figure it out... so get off his weiner

  • dude, fuck... awesome work, this song is fucking hard to get down. keep it up.

  • Dude rip it up man! nice work!

  • Your tone is absolutely amazing on all of your songs, i think thats the most impressive aspect of your playing. Love it my man!

  • wow, thats all i have to say. now try with .016's like SRV. no offense but no one could ever beat him. But this vid gives me hope that there is still some good taste in music in this world and its not all goin in the shitter with stuff like "50 cent" and "My Chemical Romance".....if you can call that music :/

  • Amazing Dude, I Mean Holy Fucken FUCK!

  • chill rendition man. good work.

  • I think this dude is pretty good, you should see his video from the high school talent show, "The Thrill is Gone".

  • you think your fuckin sweet, okay anyone can learn a song, make up your own or at least change this one up a little.

  • Anyone, meaning who, YOU? Show me ONE "anyone" who can play as well as Stevie....

  • Oh for gods sake, I hate when pretentious pricks like dbige23 post bullshit like this. This guy friggin rocks, and you wish you could play this well. Let's see a post of your rendition! thought so.

  • I'm not a stuck up guitar player that posts his shit on youtube for "fame", I play for fun, and it pisses me off when people think they are awesome because they can copy off of someone elses doings, its like "oh, hey, look I got an a on my math test, but I copied every answer off of the person next to me." CHEATING. I can play Texas Flood like anyone else can, but I don't need to put it on youtube to know that I'm good.

  • Well I see what your saying, I have checked his stuff and have not really seen any original stuff. Either way the guys is still pretty good. I too have playing for about 12 years, and won't post stuff here because I play for fun as well, but I think we shouldn't shoot him down for it.

  • I've only been playing for a year and a half, but I can still play that fast and that well. But I like changing that stuff up a little, and making up my own songs, or just jaming to a blues background. And, yes, this guy is good, but I don't know why he posts this.

  • He posts this song to show that someone other than SRV can play it. Somehow I don't believe you can play "that well." Maybe you can prove me wrong but I doubt it...

  • your right i can't because i don't have a camera, so whatever

  • if you've only been playing for a year and a half, i doubt you can play as well as this guy. He posts this so people will look at other videos of him, he posts it because he has the freedom to, your just jealous you cant play anything like him

  • Who else plays "Bad News is Coming" That's an original, but who types the song in and watches it? The only way for an unknown to be seen is to play extremely difficult WELL KNOWN songs extremely well. Get it?

  • Lets see if you can CHEAT on this song. Post it. I don't think you will get an "A" as judged by people like you.

  • Dbige23, you obviously haven't checked out his other videos. If you want to see him change things up a little, go to Drivel's video entitled "Loan me a dime." Also I think you should check out his other video "The bad nes is comin'" Maybe after you're done checking those out, you'll quit complaining over how he should "change things up."

  • perfect

  • I really hope you make it big. that's simply incredible. you've got great control over your vibrato and amazing speed mechanics. I can't do that good of a vibrato on two strings with my index finger!

  • absolutely wonderful, do you have a tab for at the beginning when that hendrix chord fragment segment is played down the neck?

  • Or is what Karl doing nearly impossible for most people but he is just gifted? Kinda like Stephen Hawking and physics without the physical handicaps? He makes it look so easy like anyone could do it with enough work. Am I wrong?

  • Out of curiosity, how does one go about learning an advanced song like this note for note? Tabs? That would be like a hundred pages of tabs to learn. By ear and then mimicking? I would have to listen to the song 1,000,000 times, trying to play note by note. Can someone please enlighten me?

  • yeah, uh, i don't think that there is tab out for this song. I think he learns it by ear. thats what I do. I have perfect pitch but I don't think I could see this song all the way through lol

  • ...im giving you 5/5 great guitar playing ... ur missing the 5th gear... maybe even the 4th... Put emotion in ur playing... thats what makes the difference between the really good, and the pros. The pros have the have the emotion+energy+unique appearence+ the way to get the crown on thier feet :D...work on those things, apart from the guitar playing

  • I think that playing songs note for note is a really good excercise for developing your own style. This helps you develop techniques you may not be able to unlock on your own.You have to have a starting point(Not to mention, it's a great ear training tool.)I think we can all agree that ear training is a good thing.

  • ...youre not meant for blues pal... Thats great u can mimick Stevies work... but u can't make something like that from your heart.

  • I'm not saying that anyone should stick heavily to playing licks note for note, because then you would not be working on getting down your own style. Drivel101 HAS NO SUCH PROBLEM. For he has developed, and is still developing his own style of playing.

  • Also,I agree that Drivel101 shouldn't feel obligated to emote in front of an artificial audience. Asking someone that they should quit ''mimicking'' SRV'slicks is like asking someone to go learn a foreign language without learning and speaking the literature of that language. WELP,I'm done preaching. Have a nice day.

  • WORD BROTHER

  • yeaaaaaaaah

  • Holy smokes Drivel101 - color me impressed.

  • very impressiv, great sound and playing

  • Thanks for your comments, He really is a great Guitarist, if my previous comment came across rude I'm sorry, I should have wrote could you please play it standing up.

  • Columbo1964, I think you should watch his "Thrill is Gone." He could probably play it standing, AND behind his neck.

  • That sounded great but could you play it standing up

  • Watch his "Here's proof..." video. He stands and plays more difficult srv songs... It should answer your question.

  • Red House 7, You obviously don't know much about Blues Yourself but he copied lick per lick Stevie's Texas Flood Relased on teh el Macomba dvD and on the Texas Flood Album, so uhh do some research, anyway thats pretty good man keep it up..

  • you have a bad blues style learn to play speed metal or some other crap no offence your good but blues isn't your type of music

  • So you're saying Stevie Ray Vaughan has a "bad blues style"? Cause umm, I'm playing a Stevie Ray Vaughan song, note for note...

  • i love that song , can you send me the tabs for guitar pro ?

    thank you

  • check out this guys little wing its note 4 note perfect

  • Redhouse 7, it's people just like you who criticize Drivel101's playing for no reason at all. The only thing I can come up with is that you're just jealous of his talent. =)

  • i think you are jelous because you have obiviously defended this gay guy hundreds of times dude find a new video to get pissed at people about

  • Are you kidding me? I have no words...

  • Comment removed

  • You need to write a few songs of your own, go to a record company, and get out a demo cd. That much talent shouldn't be going to waste, how old are you?

  • Thanks - I'll be 21 in May

  • simply AMAZING, TELL ME EVERYTHING U ENTIRELY DO TO GET THIS SOUND..I WOULD PAY U TO TELL ME I AM JUST DESPERATE! PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO PLAY LIKE THIS AND HOW U LEARNED TO PLAY LIKE SRV

  • holy....crap!...you are right on top of it...OMG...OMG

  • Oh My gosh!!!! I have mad mad respect for you! My dad is crazed Stevie fan, so I grew up with the blues in my house! Your version of Texas flood is HELLA AWESOME. Give mAD RESPECT TO THIS GUY

    Kgeorge

  • Hey man - i posted a comment on your version of rude mood. This is cool - not what i was expecting with the track playing in the background, but entertaining all the same. you have a fantastic ear. i think alot of the guys commenting on here are missing the point - i advise everyone to check out this guy playing rude mood on acoustic! well done mate.

  • great ear man

  • fucking great :S u can coppy srv you look like a boring git tho stand up and grow soum cool hair and were funky cloths

  • That the shit buddy.. The first two minutes of TF off of the El Mocambo show are probably my favorite licks of all time.. just amazing stuff and you've got it dicked.. Sweet..

  • this is godly

  • this is amazin fuckin lush tone and playin bro

  • Awesome!! Texas Flood is my lullaby man and you just made me sleepy totally awesome!! Dis the haters yeah? Keep on playin!

  • i wanna hear you sing...
