The wonderful days of play-back TV shows... Can't understand how all those great musicians and singers accepted that deal in those days. A great song, though.
super ... what I like most with Mahlathini & Mahotella Queens is the spiritual balance in this performance. There just is holistic expression.. nothing is looking & feeling dialectic..the women voice are incredible powerful - and guys are charming & ruling ;o)))
Mahlathini died in 1999 but the Queens are still a bit active, as far as I know. The flute is a "Penny pipe" - a cheap piece of brass with holes - a typical South African Instrument.
The interesting part is dat, African music reign forever, Great from the Mahotella queens and Mahlathini. I am Ghanaian, but love dis tune soo muc though I dont understand

We had a big celebration in my german hometown in 1990 to show our solidarity against apartheid in South Africa. We invited Mahlathini a & Mahotella Queens. I remember well the one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
@Ayanfe13 Thanks for your comment. Yes, I am very proud to have been a part of that.
Another story:
1994, exact 1 day later, after Nelson Mandela became president, I arrived in South Africa for the first time in my life. When I went to a music store and asked for Mahlathini & Mahotella Queens, the sellers were very amazed but happy that I know the band. I told them about our organized concert in 1990 and how happy I am to buy the music now in the liberated South Africa. I made new friends ...
I wish I knew the lyrics...

Excellent! The penny whistle player (also a great sax player) was the late WEST NKOSI, who was the musical director and producer for the band.
