I find it funny that this ignorant narrator doesnt realise that most of this skill is not that difficult to learn, he is obviously blind to the training and dedication, the way he paints it makes it sound like a sad cult. And this is something that would have been on tv. No wonder some people are still thinking the same way....
@BOM 4 dont steal 5 dont drink.. and that will take us to Nivana not this shit.. man dont get me wrong i love Karate iv been doin it for 13yrs and im still youg i knw what good u people dont. i love marital arts...but i dont do it to hurt people or kill i never plan to kill like budda say rather u die than break that persept buy kill anythin or anyone..
This martial dont look any better than all the other martial. The techiques, the diciplin and the clothes, all look like traditional Karate. I think its great that the young people learn about Buddhism and fighting skills. Its all good things in our modern day when crime and hate is top of the list.
I remember in high school I asked one of my white friend, what languages he speaks besides english, and he says " I don't speak english, I can only speak American".. I started laughing at him, but stoped because I realised he wasnt joking..thats pretty sad. People here love to make ignorant comments about other cultures and comment like they know what there talking about but when someone smarts replys they get angry and end up looking stupid.
Once again, very innacurate subtitles!! So Doshin was not "very far to the right", that's idiotic! He saw what happened to the spirit of his country after the war and sought a way to use a moral system to bring purpose to young people again. T hbadra it's a "manji", an ancient Buddhist symbol of the flow of life for over 2,000, not a swastika!! By the wayit's not used anymore, even in Japan. There's a new world-wide logo as of 2005 so as not to offend anyone.
Its sad how America, being the greatest country and leading the world in almost every aspect of life. Can be so ignorant and close minded. And we wonder why noone likes us as a country and people. And how we have third world countrys stratching there heads wondering why the greatest country in the world is so academically inferior(stupid). I can see how a Manji looks like a swastika but come on now, are people realy that stupid?
The swastika you think you know is a Hindu symbol (as you can read in the other comments). Hitler reversed the orientation of the symbol by his ignorance and his liking of the occult. Read and live in peace!
i would say it was much more likely a straight lift from the Nordic runes which were also used in the S.S. symbol and many more.
the swastika is a Nordic symbol for fire.
hitler and goons were obsessed with idea of Nordic descent and a mythical interpretation of the world/universe in terms of a battle between fire and ice.
"...The principle of martial arts is to regard every other person as a potential enemy." What a fascist way of thinking. In order to build your own strength, you must learn to fear everyone elses. That doesn't create security, it creates paranoia. No wonder they are tied to the political right...
Agreements and available materials, that is what create a society, a Martial Art is a small-part of a society. Each Martial Art is only a perception of what's existing. That indoctrination part, with easy to operate equipment as part of the materials, will allow a large group of soldiers to destroy any warrior caste.
I don't know what that means. Besides, it doesn't respond to my point. I was responding to the man in the film (5:00),not martial arts in general. Operating under the belief that anyone is a potential enemy creates a paranoid, martial culture. And that's not merely a "perception" of what's existing." Indeed, it's the perception that your friends are plotting against you which encourages you to plot against them. "What's existing" is dependent on what is perceived. Peace depends on trust.
A martial-culture, is usually a group of people which become able to spend all of their time training. That is likened to the Spartans which worried about the people in revolt, that martial mindset is self-promoting. This technology isn't cost-effective, most people would benefit most from an idiot-proofed martial-art, which would teach mostly how to avoid, self-inflicted injuries.
Karate Training Device - just do a search for the martialarm in youtube or google. Excellent martial arts training video and loved the quality. I hope to mention this style of training to you. -
well i am a blue belt now but i still find it hard to keep my selfworth and joy in the dojo because of some of the egos of the higher ranks and the rigid way of teaching, i do feel i am very focused afterwards and starting to understand chi still i dont no if i can keep standing the submission
The ignorance and narrow mindness of some to pass opinion without research still astounds me. The 'swastika' as it has been referred to is actually known as a 'manji'. The manji represents the foundations of life and balance.
The swastika has no relationship to the manji symbol. So instead of being an example of cultish behaviour advocating anti individualism, the 2000 year old manji symbol represents a means to complete oneself through ones own self discovery.

Unfortunately due to their submissive and disciplined nature asians are very prone to becoming cult members. That's dangerous, you end up being a tool serving the purpose and interests of some jerk who doesn't give a crap about you
No. We are NOT submissive!Every human being is prone to being manipulated by others don't give a damn about them! ex. Nazi Germany ex. corrupt politicians. Also, asians are not the only ones who join cults. week/year. I'm sure you're not racist or anything. I justed wanted to give you an FYI. I'm asian. It's true our culture values discipline. But submission is a diff. story. My family is full of disciplined ppl. but we don't let ppl. step on us!
Not racist, just observing. I never said asians are the only ones who join cults. I said Asians are more submissive to authority than other nations. It's not a genetic thing mind you, it's because of the culture they grow up in, and yes they are more prone to be followers of a leader and lay down their lives.
Just like the U.K. following the U.S. into Iraq. The british follow america like good little lap dogs. The west tend to look down on all non white culture as being uncivilized. Come on UK lets go die in a war that we have no business in. FOLLOW THE LEADER!
You don't know a thing about asian people. All of that garbage your spewing is nothing but western ignorence of diffrent cultures. All muslims are terrorist, Africans are jungle dwelling cannibals and their westen counter parts are all gangbagers. I'm pretty sure you think like this since you belive that asians are submissive.
Asians are raised and indoctrinated to be submissive to authority, I'm not saying there aren't free thinkers and people who would rebel out there but most are like that. This doesn't apply to those raised in the West. It's a matter of nurture and upbringing not nature or genetics. This is not an insult to asians, just stating a fact about the culture they are raised in.
There are plenty of anarchist cultures in China. Also, there are tens of thousands of political protests in China every year, despite living in a police state. Compare this to the US/UK, where wars are started without reason or hesitation, yet few seem to mind. I think you paint with too broad a brush...
alnorrchusaulei, this is your one and only warning. I am all for free speech, but I have noticed in several of your posts that they have a disrespectful nature to others and their beliefs. Please keep your comments respectful.

Hm. Who dicides exactly what those "morals" are?
The nazis decided that THEY decided what their morals should be. Not some Jewish based G-d, like Jesus.
So who decides what morals Kempo is following?

Why not practice on a mat? They have more chances of getting crippled by the wooden floor that by an attacker.

Shorinji Kempo doesn't include any of the three cult characteristics.
1. Their leader (now the guy's daughter) is not worshipped.
2. Thought reform is not systematic but rather is developed from a young age over long periods of time.
3. There is no evidence of heavy exploitation from their leader to his followers.
