We were told to hangout in the big hanger where there was light refreshments. I actually was one of the few who noticed they were filming as they came into the hall . So I made sure I was in the range of the camera. Also the actors at the time were not very well known. Also this was one of Reiner's first Directed film as an actor on All in the Family!. They weren't a big deal or of little interest to most of us. And who knew this small film was going to be a big cult hit at the time.

Wireless systems back then operated just above the standard FM broadcast frequency. That's also where the aircraft communication frequencies begin. Aircraft/tower transmissions would very likely be picked up by the wireless system. These guys didn't miss any details.

Yes, I know it's the basis for the joke. I've had to explain this entire scene to too many people who don't understand what's going on and why it's funny. ( What the voices are, why Nigel's pissed at Jeanine etc). The only people who seem to "get it"  are either musicians and/or people who are around aircraft. Or maybe I just need to find a better informed class of friends.

@at1simp Some years earlier than this movie, my dad was the organist at a church that had an electric organ that picked up a country station - right in the middle of the preacher's sermon. Some years later, they stuffed that organ full of TNT, took it out to the parking lot, and blew it up.

Another church in a town I used to work in had an problem where their sound system - especially their instruments - would pick up radio chatter from the strip club next door. Made things awkward at times.
