Jose I totally agree with you. Maybe I'm wrong but I see a slight parallel with the Knightfall series. Bane wanted to show Batman who was better and outsmarted him for a while. Awesome Kraven comment Jose. You're awesome!!!!
Thanks for the kind words farcher. Kraven will always be one of my favorite comic book villains because of that story. It really did make an impact in my life when I first read it.
Dark Reign is bullshit because it's just not logical. Spiderman would NOT allow Norman Osborn to take over like that he would take him down. The New Avengers are just sitting it out, but Captain America wouldn't do that. He'd go and fuck Osborn's shit up. Our heroes need to be heroes, especially in the fucked up world we're currently living in.
Hey guys, I agree the playing field should be more balanced when it comes to women and violence in comics. Movies like Kill Bill I really love cause the character of the "Bride" gets and gives it equally to men and women a like. Even in comics like Jonah Hex, Tallulah Black's character pretty much saves Hex's burly ass in the last issue I picked up. I don't mind violence, but not just violence for violence sake to fill pages. Love you guys :)
You are absolutely right deemar. I wanted to respond to your comment because I think you bring up a very good point but don't know what else to say without sounding maybe somewhat ignorant or trivializing what those men do by comparing them to comic books.
I apologize if we in anyway insulted you or your duty to our country deemar. When we talk about "heroes" we mostly use the term in the context of "superheroes" in comics. When we draw on the history of comics where the precedence has been set that "superheroes" don't kill. That's what we refer to.
Though with Marvel trying to make their comics reflect the real world more and more the line might be becoming more blurred.
Nah.Nah..not using that for sympathy or pats on the back, I'm a fanboy to the core E. Dude you are more than good nothing to insult, it's just my opinion hell I agree with ya'll 90% of the time.
I just like both the apple pie 'Superman' types and hardcore Punisher types
I think you knew exactly what elliot and jose were talking about. Its the tradition of superhero comics that they don't kill people. Superhero comics were originally for kids and you can say to kids that killing is always the best solution, they just don't understand the grey areas like (most) adults can...
Incidentally I think you might like this comic strip displayed on this
bestofbattle . sevenpennynightmare . co . uk / strips / dayoftheeagle / eagleindex . htm
and let me remind you that Simon and Kirby both served in world war 2, Kirby despite only being 5'2" was a scout in the infantry during the battle of the bulge and the advance into germany
deemar, with all due respect to you and your service to our country (I have 2 brothers who were in the Army - one served in Gulf War1) and 1 in the Marines), but those Navy Seals would have preferred rescuing Capt. Murphy without killing those pirates - the majority of which were young, impoverished, uneducated men in their teens. In fact, if those Seals had superpowers like the Sentry, I know for a fact they would have rescued that crew without any bloodshed. Wouldn't you agree? Elliott
Agree on Sentry, Superman level heroes. A Daredevil, Ironfist, Question hero not so much. Although it's comics so yeah sure no bloodshed would be better.
I'm just saying for me personally I get bored with the neat & tidy finish, since Civil War Marvel have really caught my attention they've taken risks and raised the stakes with significant changes. I appreciate that as a reader.
I may not like Bendis that much or many of Quesade's decisions, but at least they don't bore me. Plus Marvel is smart enough to balance it with titles like Cap MI13, GoG, Agents of Atlas etc..for me it's about balance. I like both
*laughs* That was SO a snipe at Dark Reign. "Heroes don't kill." But yes, you explained your views on violence towards women and the why and how eloquently.
mast; no no...the female counterpart telling him to do it kind of puts her as the real 'want to be killer' here. He has no intent.
Good Stuff. I like the direction of Action Comics at the minute. Part 2 of WHTTCC in Detective Comics was awesome and blew me away Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert are a great team.
J, you never cease to suprise me! I really liked the art in this issue, and I thought you and Elliott agreed with me on the art in issue 875?
I'm curious, what art styles and artists that came out of the 90's do you hate? (aside from Liefeld) Also, what characterizes "90's Art"? Because I'm not noticing it. I feel like I'm at wine tasting party's and have no clue what everyone is talking about.
Too many to fit in this small comment space to be truthful johnny. But you know what? Like we always say, art is subjective. I'm just burned out on that style after having to deal with it all through the 90's and than some.
I grew up with artists like Art Adams, Kevin Nolan, Adam Hughes, Walt Simonson, John Byrne, Brian Stelfreeze, Mike Zeck, Sal Buscema, (and even Marc Silvestri and Jim Lee...when they were good). Extreme and Homage Studios just killed things for me for a while.
The only thing I think that slightly undercuts that notion is that Chris ultimately is holding the dagger at the end, meaning that he still has the power to kill instead of the equally worthy female counterpart.
Just for the record, I don't think that Obama being president erases slavery, but I won't be upset if a black character gets hurt in comics. Sincerely, the Ethan Van Sciver of CCW.
Without a doubt, Kraven's Last Hunt is one of the best story arcs of all time.

Well it hits home for me, because I was a soldier (2 tours in Iraq) so the whole 'heroes kill/don't kill' thing it's very relevant to me.
My thing is you can have both the fun SHAZAM stuff and the Punisher stuff, why bag on the types of heroes.

Tradition? Batman was running around with a pistol from the jump and Captain America wasn't feeding Natzi's soup he was giving them a dirtnap.

Have you proof of Simon and Kirbys Captain America killing german troops? If not, then retract that statement.

This quesition kind of spirals into bigger topics for me.
But - Elliot made a good point about our balance.
Knowledge brings both rewards and temptations.
But i will say that to know and share the good and to forbid the bad WITHIN ONES SELF is to be admired.
am i getting a sense here?

Also, what is the point of progress if you choose to cling to a negative past? Is it a victim's mentality or simply a hobby?
