it could be bent shift fork and it doesn't push it in gear all the way so its stuck betwen gears. I had a dirtbike like that, but then traded it for a 3 wheeler.
Sorry to here that, I also got my Rancher 420 FM at Honda of Houston and my buddy did too. Hope you win!!! That's one of the reason I got the FM and not the automatic.
LOL yea they werent going to warranty it at first but they knew it was there fault so after hours on the phone with American Honda they had too. Honda at Houston had to pay for it not American Honda which is pretty funny.
I just got it back again about 2 weeks ago as the shift buttons did work with the new tranny so they had to rewire it or something.
If total it cost Honda at Houston $2600 to fix it all
so now im in war with Honda of houston cause the little problem that i had a month ago could have been fix with just a little $100 but now the repairs without labor is $986.
'tis possible to shift too fast. atvs are a lot like cars ... you have to take the shifting slow. as far as it jumping back down to neutral or whatever ... if that's what it is doing, the gears might be stripped. if that was the cast, though, honda would've known (unless you had an idiot helping you, haha). good luck!
its not actually going to neutral its hanging between gears reason it is doing it is because the shift actuator is not pulling it all the way. replace the shift module and it will be fine

Well im always up for trades :) 3 wheelers are fun as hell, but I dont like their stability.
bamper42069 3 years ago
yea there fun but im with you too about the stability its not the worlds best
sterlingnobles 3 years ago
OMG dude i love you.

Did you get it fixed?
bamper42069 3 years ago
Ok well when i took it in the said there was nothing wrong with it so i continued to ride.
About a week ago my 4th gaer just completely messed up and was making a loud grinding noise if i would press the gas in 4th gear.
so now its at honda agian for the same reason and there saying that i have to pay for the damages cause its not covered under warranty.
i talked to honda yesterday and they said that the shift fork was completly worn down causeing it to wear down ALL of my gears.

Sounds like you're shifting too fast. Can't really tell, though. :-/
Janna8806 3 years ago
how do you shift to fast when all you do is let go of the gas and press a button.
and it jumps out of gers and like goes in to neutral
