If the wonwingwonder is a model & is really in the air, how do you explain the aerodynamic contradictions? Oddly, I've cut wings off little gliders that spiralled into the remaining wing. How can a stalled wing have less lift than a nonexisting one? Why is it so antiresponsive? Even if it is a model, it could be real(unexplained) aerodynamics.
Its fake because when the right wing is not there the left wing is the only one supporting/ giving lift which would cause it to spin uncontrolably and you would have no aleiron control what so ever ITS FAKE
Some chess teacher from Arizona sent me this link from another video saying it was real. This is what is wrong with schools, the teachers are idiots, so the students walk out just as screwed up. They'll believe anything.
This manuever (minus landing) is part of a standard airshow stunt performance. This stunt is a balance of prop thrust and prop-wash induced lift over the rudder. Is the landing in this vid real? The physics are entirely possible. I have a lot of questions (why wing failure at low-load? Aeleron linkage destruction from lost wing? etc.) but cannot say "fake" w/out knowing a lot more.
@Nameunavailabletoday All well and good but unless you can give me the physics on how a plane's paint job changes between flight and landing then i'm going to have to say it's fake.
The aircraft is likely an R/C 1/3 scale model. These are available for sale pre built, and ready to fly. It has a design flaw with the spar structure, and is prone to this. The model is light enough, and powerful enough for a competent pilot to land it like that. It bounced like a model.
yeah im just gonna point this out since no one else has but you'd think when that plane hit the ground on landing tha wheels would snap under the pressure
look at the paint!!!.. the white is refexing tape..!!!. the shape it is all the same from the nose to the tail and the sid view... and the landing gear intact.. end it by FINDING THE PIOLT!! and flex of something not supposed to flex.. thats a pat of the back on the design.. and head movement on the landing.. his shoes his story soo you stay calm and movable when your looking at something that could cause you death... AMAZING! is right.. but hey buddy .. I'm jaded to... nice voice....
There are many things that make the aircraft that actualy lands real. First off, the entire tail swivels on a real Extra 260, Not so on RC's. The plane landing, does not move in the jerky motion of RC's. As for being able to stop so fast, The plane was not moving fast enough to fly if it had 2 wings. An Extra 260 can almost hover like a hellicopter. If you listen he is full throtle before landing bleeding off as much speed as possible. Rc in first part staged. landing plane could be digital.
I used to fly aerobatics. The plane in the video is an Extra 260. And this guy is wrong on several counts. There have been many succesful one wing landings. The flight cotrol systems on this and all aerobatic aircraft Are linked only thru the joystic. he is right that the plane on the ground is real and the one in the air is RC. The wing break off was staged. While the plane is stiil in the air, The last time it leaves frame and comes back thats when switch is made. But it is still in the air.
lol iam a animater and expert on cgis. as soon as i saw this video i was bored cuz of the lazy work on the cgi itself. it was just soo unnatural and people believed that sh"".
Yeah this is obviously fake, but I've seen RC planes of similar design land sucessfully after losing a wing. Of course, we're talking about an entirely different set of circumstances with an RC plane, and it take an amazingly skilled and cool-headed RC pilot to pull it off. Still, it's a cool thing to see when you're sure that a $2000 plane is going to pancake, but the pilot pulls it out at the last second.
It is all fake!!!! look at the picture of the plane in the beginning of the movie, take a picture of it with your mobile and then look at the end, the nose of the plane looses a stripe. and again at the end they switch plane when the screen gets unclear,
The easiest way to tell it's fake is not even the livery that changes but the fact that when it lands the camera suddenly begins to travel alongside the aircraft at a similar speed gives away that it's a rendering. For the real shit:

It's been proven in a tv program that it's possible to do this. And the plane really looses it's wing, but the landing is a RC plane cuttet into the video :)
@leviterande a rat may see such things; but the video explains it's two separate airplanes. There are in fact stunt planes designed to fly on one wing, and highly powered enough to fly hanging from the prop.
this is so dumb. the RC pilot is on here, witch i saw before this. but even if i dident i would like to think that i would have spoted this a phoney. fooled my dad though. i kinda felt bad for him. but watching hundreds opon hundreds of vids in order for me to spot a phoney is nothing to be proud of. nor my spelling
Any actual pilot viewing this knows it's fake. Here's why. After supposedly losing its wing, the airplane enters a spin. A spin occurs when one wing is more stalled than the other. The least stalled wing will be on the outside of the rotation. In this case the "right" (starboard) wing would have to be generating more lift than the left (remaining) wing. Therefore, it is impossible for the plane to be rotating the way it is unless it actually still has a starboard wing.
actually i had replayed it and realized it seemed really fake
you can tell by the shine its computer animation and no camera blurs in and out that much they did blur to simulate really amatures but it just looks fake
You are all mistaken ! This is a squale aircraft flown by a US pilot called Bill Hempel. Google or youtube it and you'll see by yourself the "true" videos. The video is called "bill hempel flies with one wing!" ... trust what you want ...
of course you get some lift, but not from the remaining wing ! If you get some lift from the powerful engine, that's all ...
How do you think some planes (Sukhoi Su-31, Edge 540 just to name a few) can fly vertical like an helicopter? In these cases, the wings help just for stability and controls, and obviously not for any kind of lift !
Just have a look at the video I said, look at it mate, you'll see way better than any writen explanation ...
They even created a unknown race pilot!! The created a person who does not exist..To make this race pilot believable, they created a website with all the details of this pilot..!
Funny but these guys put alot of hard work into it! Their work paid off cause many people believed in it and their "virus" was a success!!!
It was proven to be a fake on german tv :Galileo on Prosieben. If I understand correctly it was a group of german directors(maybe some others as well) whose goal was to make a fake that seemed unbelievable but with some tricks they made it look real...The called it the "virus effect" cause the video spread like a virus. They made it look real but at the end (landing) they made it look fake so that people would comment on it: if its fake or not. They didn't want to make it too real...;)
I seriously hope you didn't spend too much time debunking this video. But Good job, you even caught a few things I didn't see, but I only watched it twice and could see it was total BS.
It's a viral ad campaign from Killatrill. It is along the lines of the viral ad campaigns of Sprite Zero when the wind surfer gets picked up by the landing passenger jet.
Its just CGI. You can see when it goes from real to CGI (if it ever was real footage in the first place) when the video goes out of focus.
However, there is a video of just this exact thing happening, in real life. It's of a model plane, and yes, it has a prop strike, wing strike, and is barely maneuverable, but it will fly again.
