I like the idea, wanna make something different.my suggest is:do not throw the character of banjo, don't try use"Piano/Guitar character" coz it's only make Your Banjo look's weak.use a song/beat/tempo suitable 4 Banjo, coz some song/beat/tempo are not match 4 Banjo.Elecktrick sound is "Absolutely Not Good 4 Banjo",it killed the Character.Correct me if I'm wrong? Coz I used tobe a Banjo player,& I used to Play any kind of Music with my Banjo from 1982-1990
It's amazing how much this guy was sidelined. He was never as popular as mainstream country (even with his combining heavy Jazz W/ bluegrass at times...and also Celtic folk sound). A shame really. 1/2 the people out there, STILL have never heard of this guy.
@BarnacleBillsBastard He doesn't have any stage presence. Maybe if he dropped the I don't care look and at least dressed half as well as he plays, then more sheeples would know about him.
@tdawgheath I don't consider it electric just because you can plug it in. If the sound is made acoustically rather than through pickups, it's still acoustic. To me, anyways.
BELA FLECK's 50TH BIRTHDAY COMING SOON! Celebrate a truly gifted musician and composer who has no equal...Bela Fleck! B-day: JULY 10th, 2008. SEND A FUN CARD or something special that you think he would enjoy having! SEND TO: David Bendett Artists, Inc., 2431 Briarcrest Rd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210. Spread the word! "Copy & Paste" this entire message and post it to Fleck related video comments and etc. Thank-you!
the wooden box futureman is playing, unless im wrong, is a typical spanish one which should not be played with a brush cos it limits the number of hits and doesnt give a good sound, in my opinion, he should practice it using hands as many spanish talented percussionists do.
Viva espanya! xD (no tengo la enye en este teclado)
Bela and victor rule though, luv watching the flecktones!
That looks like a Cajon, a box drum from Peru. So he doesn't have to play it in a traditional Spanish style. Either way, you can play any instrument any way you like to get the sound you want out of it.
incredible musicians like these do not need to play instruments the way "they were meant to be played" or whatever shit you're talking about. let them play however they want, they can smash their instruments for unique sounds if they wanted to. the piano isn't meant to be kicked but brilliant musicians like jamie cullum start kicking it and punching and just making music all the more broad and ever expanding.
Bela Fleck and the Flectones is one of these bands thats always on the cutting edge of something new. These guys are always pushing the envelope of creativity and they seem to be in a constant state of musical evolution.
bela fleck has loads of early albums" drive "being one of the best and others cant remember name off hand will have to go and have a look this tune is one of his early ones
There are many versions of "Bigfoot" available on archive dot org as well as about 300 complete Flecktones performances...all legal and with the band's permission
you shouldsee them live. they are so intence. i saw them touring thenew album. futureman and jeff have gotten so much better, and i didn't think they could get much better. love the flecktones.
Perhaps someone could explain this to me? The one guy is playing an acoustic bass, and Bela is playing a banjo of course... but wtf? is that other guy playing a box? i am so confused...
explain ? bela fleck is just one of the best banjo's player in the world and victor wooten one of the best bass player's in the world. They play together with future's man in the band bela fleck and the flecktones... that's all. they're such amazing... If you like this you've got to see there live recording live at the Quick
easily the best banjo I have ever heard. It almost makes me want to pick up banjo. And wooten is a superb bass player. Futureman's got some interesting percussions going; he is very interesting musician. He almost makes me laugh (in a posative way of course)
Yeah, and who cares? If you understood music, you would not be able to help but at least appreciate this for the amazing musical talent. This is not a "Jam" this is a written song and his cadences are amazing. I take it you don't like classical or jazz either =/
Is there a better banjo player, really? For that matter, is there any other musician as relevant as Fleck today? He's got both trophies on his coffee table, folks. He's the real dude.
In comparison, he's writing stuff thats equally as creative as some 17th and 18th century composers. And then to add Wooten to the mix is just icing to the cake, ya know?
I don't know, his cadences are more 20th century classical, i've never heard this type of structure in 17th or 18th century, maybe 19th. But i get your point and it is well made.
Bigfoot was originally released on the New Grass Revival 'Friday Night in America' album in 1989, I think it was the last album they made together as New Grass Revival.
Yeah which sucks because its my favorite song but you cant find a studio version anywhere. Tho were lucky enough that they sound like they are in a studio even when they are live.

I've never seen the movie, but there's a Muppet movie that begins with Kermit the Frog playing Rainbow Connection on banjo.
For some people, this is a very iconic scene, and it is the first thing they think of when they see a banjo.
Recent reference in the American sitcom The Office.
