i hate matches like this where the one guy does all the work, while the one guy does nothing, then at the end the guy who did nothing beats the other guy cause the other guy gassed from actually TRYING to wrestle.
I saw Hahn wrestling at Jr Olympics my freshman year of high school, and I saw him completely demolish this kid in the finals. He threw him for 5, came back up, threw him for 5 again and the kid was out cold.
i wrestled for hammer for years, the team coached by hahns dad. Lakewood was a crappy wrestlig team. They had one semi decent kid greene, and hahn who was unstoppable in high school.
um, yeah, he owned me..but I made it to the 2nd period before he picked me up like a baby and gently place me on my back for a pin even though he was wrestling up a weight class.
If this is the tape from the school that was given to the camera man in the corner, I am the guy who filmed this match.I worked that NCAA tourney by filming matches for the Coaches Association. I got to film matches on mat 6 for the whole tourney. Tanis was a beast.
I was at a freestyle tournament a few years ago - When Hahn made it to the finals he wore a singlet white singlet with cherries imprinted all over it - thats some balls man.
where ever damian hahn is from, he has an amazing front headlock. i thought he was going to take him over for backs in the first minute. the other dude is pretty sweet though...
I'm just looking off of the high school All American's of Damions senior year of high school where he was ranked #1 recruit in the nation by USA Wrestling. The poster listed him as being from Blair Academy in New Jersey. Perhaps, the poster should get it's facts straight?
Yes, I'm from New Jersey and at NO point did Damion Hahn ever wrestle for Blair Academy. He wrestled for Lakewood High School all 4 years where his father was assistant coach.
That's a fact then, Tanis's win over him was a huge upset and Tanis's performance at the 2002 NCAA's was a miracle last chance run. Granted he had a pretty good junior season, but by the start of the NCAA's he had dropped to #12, and after his first round loss to Kyle Hanson of UNI, I guarantee you no one was placing money bets on Tanis coming back and taking 4th. Hahn however, by some was predicted to maybe even win the tournament.
true true. I hope that wrestling isn't reduced to "well his conditioning sucked". Winning is about winning, and nothing else. Nothing should be taken away from that match for Tom.
There was defffffinitely something wrong with Hahn. His conditioning sucked for some reason. I take nothing away from Tanis but Hahn on his best day would definitely beat Tanis on his best day.
Tanis barely did anything in this match. If you know anything about wrestling you would realize that something was very wrong with Damion Hahn. There is nothing awesome about Tom Tanis.
Damion Hahn is an awesome wrestler. He wrestled for one of the toughest high schools in the nation and was not only a multiple state champion but also the Amatuer wrestling News magazine and USA wrestling's high school wrestler of the year. He went on to Minnesota where he won 3 BIG 10 championships and 4 All American awards. 5th-5th-1st-1st...it was expected that a guy like that beat a guy that was never a State champion, only qualified for nationals once before this that's very impressive
True Damian Hahn is an awesome wrestler. Not true that he went to one of the toughest high schools. He wrestled for Lakewood, NJ and was usually the only decent one on the team. Lakewood hasn't even placed in their conference (Shore Conference i.e. Howell, Jackson, CBA, Brick, Ocean) in as long as I can remember.
If you knew anything about wrestling, you would realize that Tanis dropped a 7-4 decision the year prior to Hahn. I think it was 5-4 and Tanis tried for a last shot...Hahn was never known for his conditioning.
Tom Tanis was freaking awesome at the 2002 Championships. Enters the tournament as a senior who didn't win his conference and really didn't have to many reasons to be super dooper confident but he was anyway! Loses first round to Kyle Hanson and then wins 6 consolation matches to finish 4th....now that is awesome!

Note - he won that tournament that I just mentioned. Also, now that I think about it, it wasn't a few years ago, it was about 10 years ago!

Aside from Hahn, all of Lakewoods wrestlers were guys that didn't make the cut for basketball team. How tough could that be? LMFAO
