It is not that the older folk are close-minded. Rather, the younger folk seem to lack depth. We see it in that which the younger folk claim to be music, as just one example in society. On average, save a few truly talented artists out there, what most younger folk claim as musical artistry, would not even qualify for airing on the old Solid Gold talent show.

I have goosebumps reading these comments. Thought the song touched me in this "crazy" way. It changed my life. I wrote a book because it 'opened' my eyes!
Read: Before I heard that song Black Butterfly, I had no identity. I heard rather than listened to it. It was playing over the radio on shortwave there was a lot of hissing and fading but the music was powerful. I held my breath through most of the song and when the song was over, I and all I’d been about was over too. I became a man!

Nobody and i do mean Nobody should even attemp to record this song. deniece just took this and made it her own. in my opinion this is the closes to having the perfect voice for a song.she just flat out nailed these lyrics and her timing and placement at the bridge is simply outstanding.pure classic.

These powerful and uplifting lyrics that so wonderfully illuminate the struggle and promise of our heritage were written by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann; a married couple, both white. I am unsure of their ethnic background but somehow, they were able to feel and express it even though it is not their own. It tells me that in spite of the social and political walls we all put up, we truly do still have the ability to empathize with one another.
