No i rarely use sketches but I do "lift" my own work or other pages that I like. I say use whatever works and gets your creative juices flowing!

Ohhh thanks so much. The canvas is from Joannes. It was super inexpensive with a coupon -- I think about $7 for one yard. The papers are Sassafrass, Basic Grey and Studio Calico.
