  • I totally love the dude who played the Sergeant...he totally channelled Tony Azito. I'm impressed. Frederic's voice is dreamy, and General Stanley is quirky and expressive. Well done, guys!

  • these police men did more then we did our production-lucky them.

    good job

  • It is good to see G&S is still alive, but I'm afraid not too well, judging by this effort. The fault lies with the direction and choreography or lack thereof.

I am not a traditionalist by any means, but they could have done better. Hopefully their parents enjoyed the performance

  • You shouldn't be too critical gordorgan, it's only a school production with everyone mucking in and doing their best.

I think they did very well, nice to see them all making so much effort.

  • We had 3 this week..

    Tommorow r the last 2

    THANK GOD!!!

  • wheres, the second police song?

  • the sergeant should really be congratulated, he did a good job, best, school performance one i've ever seen

  • mabel and edith are ... well .. yes they are well !! haha but no they arent very good !! wait for maynooth post primary version tis gonna be AWESOME !!

  • its sounds like the mics go all weird during the second girls singing

  • Comment removed

  • all of the people who play the sergeant seem to get tired after a while when doing the Tarantara's...except for tony azito, thats why he's the best

  • Im in the play... Im in the police chorus

  • this has to be one of the most obnoxious operettas EVER. I loved it. (altho this orchestra isn't articulating together.)

  • It's a little strange that majority of the choerography is somewhat directly taken from the 1980 Broadway version of PoP. See When The Foeman Bares His Steel by ThePenzancePirate

  • orchestra too loud in the middle part!!! oO

  • Very good.

  • a very high standard for a school production

  • wait 4 ours next year :)

  • well yeah they weren't in mics. and, i might add, the Edith ...um...wasn't very good...at all.

  • yeah, what was with that?

  • for so many girls there wasnt a lot of sound out of them =/

  • The Sargent should be a true Bass...this guy sounds weak and effeminate

  • excactly

  • My HS is doing this show. We actually open in a week and a half. I'm a daughter, and we all hate this number. Our choerographer has us standing in the back bouncing up and down for most of the song. Our calves are always killing us by the end of the song. lol

Your Edith was definately an alto. She had a bit of trouble with the high notes. We have the opposite problem with our Edith. She is a first soprano and has more trouble hitting the low notes.

  • Aw this reminds me of my freshman year in HS. We did this. I'm a girl, but we didn't have enough guys so I had to be a police. It was so much fun. These are the times I miss HS.

    This school did pretty great!

  • My school is doing PoP, and I really hope ours turns out like this! :)

  • Kudos for actually having a male Sergeant.

  • well when we put on pirates, we used a bass 1, and he sounded like a tenor. i think its just the pitch the song is supposed to be sung in makes every major general sound like a tenor. even my brother said our major general sounded like a tenor.

  • major general is supposed to be either a bass 1 or bass 2. i think the major general in this vid is a tenor, at least thats what it sounds like to me. my high school uesd a guy who is a bass 1 when we put on pirates of penzance

  • That is really funny cause he is my best friend and we are both bass 2s. Trust me, he is no tenor. He is better at reaching those higher notes than me. But he is not a tenor.

  • Totally cool, it is youtube it always people to be honest. And I like honesty.

  • your not loud enough...your singers are terrible...your so lame

  • Your English sucks... You're an idiot...

  • oh...im sorry...

so are you the police chief or the King or what?

  • That's all right.

No, I was a policeman in this scene. A Pirate first act and then Policeman second act.

  • you know...honestly...after looking at my comments on your Police and your King vid...i realize that i was unnacceptably rude...

    i apopologize

  • our school is doing this production as well, im a policelady :) all we seem to do is say ''Tarantara'' its funny though, Mabel is a really good singer compared to this in our production XD

  • Our school is doing a production of this, there is only 6 policemen xD That's including the Sergeant.

This is my favourite song =]

  • overall great, the edith needed some work, and i think that the song was performed in a lower key than it was written...

  • All I know is that we performed it in the key that was in the book from MTI.

  • whats MTI? i'm sure that mabel's high notes were higher when i sang it...

  • Ha Ha... n00b

  • you can call me whatever you want. whats MTI?

  • Musical Theatre International, it is the place where you order the official librettos and rights for a show from.

  • They're doing it in the correct key it was written.

  • well, its not the original key, i'm sure. i'm doing this at an opera camp, and i'm sure that this song is higher.

  • it is also the original key. It seems you're the one doing it in a higher key.

  • well, i stand by my theory that someone put it in a lower key for high school students to use, and the score i'm using is the original, or at least closer to it.

  • In this video it hasn't been altered in any way. Watch the movie, and the original stage production, it's exactly the same.

  • this is true. but i don't think its the way the original opera was written by gilbert and sullivan.

  • wow. You're as stubborn as a mule, if the original stage cast, the movie, and all other highschools are singing it in the SAME KEY. That means you guys are the ones doing it wrong. NOT everyone else.

  • I can tell you this clownrus, we for sure didn't do the Junior version of The Pirates of Penzance. There is no one in hell. That is the most embarrassing thing to put on your programs, the Junior version.

  • Thats for telling me?

  • What? That doesn't make sense what you just said.

  • Neither does you telling me that this isn't the junior version XD I never mentioned that.

  • Yes it does, there is only two versions the normal and the Junior.

  • Cool? Still, what're you replying too that that makes sense with? All of my posts have been about how this video is in the correct key along with all other groups doing this show.

  • Oh ha ha ha... I meant that to be directed to Happykitty11... my bad.

  • the performance was actually quite nice fyi. but, and this is my personal opinion, sometimes less is more in terms of choreography. the policeman's dance was a little distracting for me, and could be simpler.

  • mmmm then how come every opera company i've ever seen did it in a higher key? even the junior version at grade school was in a higher key!

  • mmmm then how come every opera company i've ever seen did it in a higher key? even the junior version at grade school was in a higher key!

  • ok i figured it out. right after the policemen's first verse is a key change for mabel's verse that wasn't there when the opera was written. go and see a real opera company do the show. not a highschool. not the "original stage version." theres even a set of gilbert and sullivan operas on dvd.

  • I did see them on DVD, and they're in this key.

  • i am a police... i am mocked.. boo hoo =(

  • we r doing this 2.. but a little more military like. Plus i am only in 6th grade so ours is a little less well elaborate...

  • Fredrick's great!

  • and the police are saying like, "tarentara".. i think its sposed to be "tarantara" oh well tho.........

  • what the HELL is up with the major ganeral??? ARE YOUR DEVOTED FOLLOWERS AT HAND???????? hes freaking psycho....im playin him and its awesome

  • It probably helps to see what was before it. The show doesn't start like that obviously there is some stuff before it Duh... His character is just bigger than yours obviously.

  • Okay, after having watched the whole video, I change my mind

Se's not a bad singer but she really should learn control.

  • The Mabel here sings, but doesn't act. You know?

    She's not a bad singer

But she should probably have acted the part a little more

  • We had a girl playing the Major-General, and it was funny as heck! She got like, 10 standing ovations.

  • Anyone who can remember all those words deserves all the ovations she/he can get.

  • She did. She was absolutely amazing. A video might be up soon.

  • wow mabel sucks!! i just got don with this play tonight our mabel kicks ass!! we only had like 5 police men 13 darugater 9 pirates lol but yea

  • yeah..typical comment, but we are doing this show right now..in fact, tonight isour opening night. i actually really like your choreography..but i agree on the singers. they may not be perfect, but good job all in all

  • This sounds recorded. Mabel was okay, but ours was better. Edith sounds flat and ours was alot better. I'm sorry for the bad feedback. Oh, and our Major General was WAY better.

  • OMG, the lead girl singer is horrible, compared to us. And I like our version more. We are doing this play right now. I like the polices movement, but could be cleaned a little bit.

  • the choreography seems to be a take off on the movie version

  • Holy Crap... I never knew that... How embarrasing.

  • hmm, trying to tell if it is sarcasm, but i wasnt just trying to be a downer, i left positive comments on the other videos, I like it a lot though

  • No, that was not Sarcasam... That really is embarrasing for many reasons. That we copied, and that we had a dance director a year before who did the same thing, so we liked this new one more because she was original. That is now a lie...

Besides, it is all right to leave "I didn't Like it" comments, it is your opinion. I am perfectly fine with it. But thanks for taking interest in our production.

  • i did like it though, it was just an observation

  • we have 40 daughters

  • OMG we only have 18 and im one of them! Our Edith is WAAAAY better and shes 9!!

  • omg edith hahhahaha

  • I think it almost adds to the character....

  • wow, how many daughters are there? We only have thirteen including the leads.

  • A whole bunch, we have to accept everyone who auditions. So we have to put them somewhere.

  • Our edith is a million times better, and she's only 11!!!

  • Edith was horrible.

  • mabel was really bad

    sry :(

  • Mabel's pretty good! Edith is the one that sucks.

  • o man edith lol

  • the second girl who sins is horable

  • Yes... she is a horrible sinner...

  • shut up! u know what i ment. the n on this keyboard does not work all the time

  • I am guessing you mean the "G" key isn't working? Also I think the "y", "o", "A", "Shift" , and the ".".

  • Ya, Edith... Wow. In the show my school did, we actually had the lead from the year before (so she was our best senior) be our Edith because it is so important that she be the best singer. I think their is way too much of a halibalue about Mabel. And the major general sucks too.

  • She is wonderful, you must have terrible ears!

  • umm no she is nottt lol

  • i think she is very good but u can hear her nerves a little.

  • oh wait i think ur talking about edith. yah she was bad...

  • Was it Edith? My bad! Yeah... yikes!

  • haha. well she tried... i think

  • i think she's more of a belter...

  • Not good even as a school production. Major General and cops need a lot of vocal work.

  • i didnt realize it was a school production till i read it, it gd i guess.

  • I do HATE that General Stanley, he's not a very good one.

  • A very energetic performance by the lead policeman. I think he did a great job for a school production. I have to ask, why was the second female singer chosen? She was horrible! I can only hope that she wasn't feeling well that day and that her performance was not typical. If that is not the case then the casting director should be fired.

  • sounds like she was more nervous, could have been her first performance...

  • helz no n00b

  • its good...just not epic enough..lol

  • Cool. In a few weeks the community theatre is going to put on this show! Im Mabel!

  • Really good! I was in a allgirls school when we did this and played a policeman but couldn't do it in the end!

  • Who wants to say "tarantara" to the next cop he meets, and see if the cop recognizes it?

  • lol!!! I am going to try that!

  • MY SCHOOL IS BETTER!

  • Thank you for the comments these are really nice for the cast and I to see!

  • awesome performance for a school production.. mad props!

  • I love this part XD My production had little 9 year olds play the policemen, it was so cute!

  • "When the Foreman Bares his Steel" is my favourite song in Pirates of Penznance, and this rendition of it was certainly executed with aplomb. While I have to admit that the Sergeant's voice was a little too croaky for my liking, the choreography certainly couldn't be faulted!

  • Really good performance. I wish my High School had done G&S...
