Une voix rare, au service d'un art trop injustement oublié, et qui pourtant a des admirateurs parmi les plus grandes voix du monde de l'opéra. La zarzuela espagnole n'est pas un art mineur, mais bien un art qui a été populaire et qui s'inspirait bien souvent du quotidien de la péninsule ibérique.

C'est un vrai plaisir de rendre justice à Ruperto Chapi et à tant d'autres ...tout en remerciant Elina Garanca pour sa voix magnifique.

@seronlewis I think this is the most microscopic dissection of pronunciation ever seen in Youtube. The irony of course is that Ms Granca's rendition is outstanding and her Spanish almost perfect. Except for the sound of "ll" or "y" followed by a vowel (probably the most difficult sound for anybody whose mother tongue is not Spanish) I find her rendition, pronunciation included, simply irresistible.

@lungdoc My native lengauge is Spanish, but really my friend there isn't diference between the pronunciation of 'LL' and 'Y' it's the same thing, it's the same sound when you pronounce, for example, 'Y'oung in english. this pronunciation form Elina Garanca was absolutly perfect as you say.

La pronunciación es excelente y evidentemente la intérprete entiende de que se trata lo que está cantando, al punto que puede incursionar en el acento andaluz lo cual no siempre se le hace fácil aún a las cantantes españolas. Hard to argue against the statement that " she is number one today"

Being overly sensitive makes you look like an idiot.

Why doesn't everyone just become more you and not criticize anyone? Giving singers a break because it's "difficult for foreigners" is simply a lame excuse. It's hard for some English speakers to roll their Rs. Should we just sympathize and ignore it?

As someone who has studied Spanish songs/arias and has sung a considerable amount of it, I know what I'm doing.

And thanks for that word-by-word breakdown. You must really not have a life.

And she's awesome, just watch some other videos of her and you'll see. I like her interpretation of this song at "The Gala Concert", recorded in Baden-Baden - 2007, but this one is good also.

I'm well away of the difference between the two dialects. But the fact that she rolls every single R like she would do RR is not perfect diction because, as you know, it can change a word completely. And her Js aren't nearly as guttural as they should be.

La DICCIÓN de Elina es EXCELENTE, la entiendo tan fácilmente como entendería a una cantante española. ¿Se nota en un par de ocasiones que es extranjera? Por supuesto, pero ningún extranjero jamás ha logrado hacerme pensar que era hispanohablante nativo.

Por favor, si vemos que hay alguien que necesariamente sabe más de un tema que nosotros, simplemente escuchémoslo.

@DiomedesDioscuro tenés razón en cuanto a la pronunciación... también muy buena, expresiva y graciosa la interpretación... lo que no entiendo es por qué ni ella ni otra que escuché no hacen el sol sostenido en la bajada, que forma la famosa segunda aumentada, tan típica de la música española y además que es lo que tengo escrito en mi versión de la partitura
