i've never been the kind of drummer that chad is - i've always been more interested in more metal styles - loud, fast playing with lots of flashy fills - but over time i really came to appreciate drummers like chad - yes it is cool to play big flashy drums, but it is also really amazing to play something simple, where you don't let yourself get distracted or sidetracked and just stay steady - chad is rock solid

I've been a fan of 311 since I was 8 years old and they released "Down" as a single. Yes, my mother was coooool enough to let me buy a "parental advisory" album at that young of an age and it's weird that I was into that kind of music back then. It started something that continues to this day. Chad will always be the drummer that first inspired me to start playing and still influences my style to this day.

They're not loose. He was beating the shit out of them. Chad comes from playing on Falam II heads which is like hitting concrete, the stand was a normal one, so it didn't have the stability from the rack system he uses.

Chad Sexton is a professionally trained drummer. The product of years of lessons and training and performing with drum corps. And it shows in his solo. Whether or not he uses a double pedal is ridiculous. His drumming is clean as fuck. And to be able to do that solo and then keep performing the rest of the song is very admirable as well. And props to the guys for being exactly as they should be, talented musicians. Happy 311 day.

I agree that this wasn't an amazing drum solo. But remember, he's playing for the crowd...he's not showing his true abilities, just a taste. Now if he were at a drum clinic, going over technique and such, then we might witness a totally different drummer. This was for the crowd, not for drummers. All the drummers stated in this argument are all great. But there is NO SUCH THING as a 'better drummer' when it comes to professionals, theres too many, and they all have amazing skills.

I respect that you are being very diplomatic on the subject and commend you on that, but my rebuddle is that, though wrist technique and other aspects are what usually make people believe one drummer is better than another, it is not a correct assumption. It is ten times harder to engineer and create the rhythms that he uses than to play them. He might be slightly overrated, but most of the credit really does go to him.
