This is one of the coolest things ever. They will add mouse support, but you can jail break it. Now, someone needs to do is ship a truly portable battery operated lcd, say 13" or so. Then with WiFi on the plane you wouldnt have to carry a seperate laptop. Great for video and your desktop. Medl has a monitor advertised but I dont think he will ever ship.

Another cool idea for this setup, would be to use the Ipad. With a Ipad and VGA out, you could eliminate the need for a keyboard and have the device propped up on the apple case. In this configuration, you could have the desktop displayed on the monitor, and the keyboard/touch surface on the ipad. If you wanted, you could also bring in a bluetooth mouse.

The keyboard on the Ipad really is quite nice, so I'd love to be able to use that instead of a physical fould out keyboard.

Instead of displaying the desktop environment on the Iphone 4, why don't you guys flip the display upside-down so the Iphone 4 can sit on the desk, cable heading towards the big screen. In this configuration, you can display the desktop on the big screen, and a mouse/gesture pad on the Iphone 4 screen. From here you can use the keyboard as normal and the Iphone 4 like a laptop touch pad.

If it's a jailbroken phone, you can even use a bluetooth mouse with BTMouse is you wanted ;-)
