  • Awesome video man!

  • Btw, I'm sorry that I might sound a little confusing. 500-character field is not enough to express some thoughts + I'm not a native English speaker and it's hard for me to put my thoughts into a text... Sorry again. I totally don't intend to force you on my opinion. +It's all based on what I've experienced with God so far and on how I understand the Bible.

  • I have a theological question, people go on and on about the 10 commandments and how important it is to keep to them. However, if you read the bible you know that there isn't just 10 commandments; there's 613 of them. All dictated by God as part of His perfect unchanging law; as per Malachi 3:6, Matt 5:18, Hebrews 13:8, etc. Why is it so important to keep these particular 10 but it's ok to ignore the other 603?

  • @popecorkyxxiv Well, first, I think nowadays we can't think of the Ten Commandments as a way to our salvation. In the Old Testament God provides salvation to Israel through keeping His commandments and a system of offerings (for their sins to be forgiven). Today we can only be saved by a sacrifice of Jesus Christ. If we don't accept His sacrifice, no matter how hard we try to keep the commandments, we can't be saved...

  • @popecorkyxxiv Second, about your question: in my opinion, Jesus has gone way further with this - see His answer in Matthew 22:34. Anyway, what I think is, that all those (as you say) 613 commandments were ment (only) for Israel to stay clean in God's eyes, as they were (and still are) a chosen nation. They are not meant to apply for all other nations. In fact, nor are the ten commandments. I think they work really great as a moral standard but not as a way to our salvation.

  • @popecorkyxxiv Anyway, I think keeping the ten commandments is really great and useful. It's not like "I decide to keep the commandments to make God love me", it's pretty much like "God so loves me that His love changes my heart and makes it willing and able to keep the commandments".

Hope all this is not confusing for you :-)

  • @mrbassman1985 I'm very confused. The passage from Matt you gave has nothing to do with my question. I asked why is it ok to ignore the other commandments and that passage is where Jesus says that Love is the most important one; not the only one or that others can be ignored. Besides, Matt 5:18 clearly states that NONE of the laws will change or be rescinded until the End. The Law only applies to Israel? I don't live there so I'm exempt!?! That makes no sense...

  • @mrbassman1985 As well I noticed that you preface everything you said with "I think". I wasn't asking for someone's personalized version of the faith (there's a reason there are over 3000 denominations of Christianity). I'm asking an objective question in relation to Biblical law itself. The law that is dictated by a bronze age text which is either the true, unbiased, perfect, binding, unchanging Word of God upon this Earth; or it's not.

  • Part1: Yes, the Law is still valid. What does the Law say? Death for a sin. What was the way to reach the salvation in the old testament? Death of an animal (or more of them) for sin. Repetitively. Every time one sinned they had to bring the offering which in its nature was temporary. When one sinned again they had to bring another offering.

  • @popecorkyxxiv Part2: Then Jesus came. Holy, perfect, God. He sacrificed Himself and became a flawless offering that covers our sins. Permanently. He completely fulfilled the Law. Death for a sin. The Law remains the same and valid. With the difference that it has been payed for all our sins.

  • @mrbassman1985 Ok, let me make sure I've got this right. Jesus sacrificed himself in place of all the animals/people (People too, ask Jephthah) that we would otherwise have to sacrifice to be forgiven. Correct? But what about original sin, we all still bear it? Plus I've always wondered, what exactly is it that Jesus sacrified? He was resurrected so he didn't actually lose his life. Was the scourging, his half crucifixion (Longinus ended it early) and his time in Hell the sacrifice?

  • @popecorkyxxiv Yes, you got it right. About the original sin - once we accept God's sacrifice by faith, we are saved, which means we are purged of all sin (otherwise we could not come to God who, in His holiness, can't stand any sin).

About the death - interesting point. However, it's written Jesus was both God and human. As a God he couldn't really die, but he really could (and did) lose his human life. I've once read a paper on crucifiction and, believe me, you don't wanna experience that...

  • The original upload is on Vimeo. (vimeo com/8439038)

  • This is nice but I noticed YouTube says it was uploaded in 2009 but the credits have a 2010 copyright. Interesting. There's another Ten Commandments video with the kinetic typography by BeyondTodayTV - it's also really interesting.

  • @KSMSDRPEPPER You're right, I uploaded the video on 29th December. Anyway, as it was intended to be used during my final thesis defence (2/10/10), I used 2010 copyright. Sorry for that ;-)
