Nothing like watching that hot metal. It is so facinating to know that you have so much control over the molten make it into any desired shape when its molten yet its unmovable at room temperature. I watch it every day in our foundry. Have not seen many foundries using the bottom pour process. We don't.
pete, very nice i'm a auto mechanic by trade and second trade a traditional blacksmith i also do lost wax brass and silver casting on the side mainly for sword parts. i can get closer then most to understanding the heat when i have a 3 by 3 inch piece of tool steel on a 400 pound anvil bare handing it with a wrap from 2 feet away while the apprentices roundhouse jonnies for the visitors at the village... something that gets in your blood, if you want to laugh / cry look up india pours, youtube
Brazing some Brass fittings for HVAR (Heating,Ventilation, Air conditioning, Refrigeration) with some 95/5 [Silver/ Nickel] using an Oxygen/Acetylene torch just cannot ever touch what these gentlemen are accomplishing. WoW! Great pours. Kudos. ! Thanks, petemorris999 for preserving you and your friends real-life work ! Your Camera stability and handling is fantastic. A true artist. Metallurgically and Videographically. Thank-you. =^.^=
Trying to find a video about the Bessemer Process to yield Steel, I happened across your video. It is very outright informative. The white glow on camera just doesn't let the viewer know how hot it really is.
It's hotter than hell around what these guys are doing.
I'll braze some 95/5 to couple some brass fittings for H
I took this film a while ago, and was feeling bord one Sunday night and decided to put it up on here, and its been here for about a week. I'm puzzled as to who is watching it and why! Even more bizarrely, it's being watched mainly in the States...Why is that?...I'm sure all will become clear in the fulness of time!

Curious, what are they actually casting?

My favorite steel calipers came from Sheffield. It is so frustrating that everything you can buy at the stores nowadays comes from China.

Is this place still open?
Steel production seems to be having a rough ride lately.

I love the smell of liquid steel in the morning!

hahahaaha....I can't say it's a smell that 'floats my boat'.....but yes it's a pretty unique smell...and acquired taste you might say!
petemorris999 2 years ago
A pint of Guinness will wash it down nicely.
