When I think Of Cecilia Bartoli , the singer Isabella Colbran comes to mind. But everyone compares her to Maria malibran. To me Shirley Verret must be closer to Malibran's voice.
I don't think we can know for certain, Shirley Verret never really mastered the upper register the way that Malibran was supposed to have done it (there's en D6 written for her in the opera "Ines de Castro"), and Bartoli for me is a true virtuoso with a 3 octave range that I can't compare to anyone else.
@primohomme I do agree with you. We'll never have that chance to know. but what I read Colbran's voice had more have mezzo tessitura. Malibran was just probably the most unique and greatest opera singer. She was a mezzo with an excellent upper register and could sing parts, that even sopranos couldn't sing.
Well, taking a look at what was actually written for Colbran one can tell that there was writing similar to that for a 1- Dramatic soprano, 2- lyric coloratura mezzo, 3 - lyric coloratura soprano, 3 - Contralto, so it's not quite so simple.
bela interpretaçao ,da brilho as composiçao de ROSSINI .espero ter um dia a honrrrra de tela em nossos halditorio no Brazil na citi de Sao Paulo um grande BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Marcos Tadeu Rossini.
Wasn't she something like 20 or 21 years old here? I don't know of many who could sing this well at so young an age! And she adopts an appropriately martial sound too.

Nice. Great aria. But the embellishment isn't very good. The best version on YT is Nicholas Spanos's. Then Cencic's.

@primohomme And also in the opera "El gitano por amor", a part that demands high C's to E's below middle C. So Malibran was a phenomena

When was this recorded? She sounds very young and adorable as usual!

Cecilia Bartoli is always divine, but nobody has sung "Tancredi" like MONTSERRAT CABALLÉ

LOL, Caballe is a mess in it...she sings it in a higher key and just screws it up.
