  • wow.. good speech... worth listening/watching..

  • nice one! thanks

  • nice video!

  • this lecture should have been interactive to catch viewers attention. . but i guess the information provided in the video is good enough to catch my attention. . :)

  • great viceo!

  • Wooh. This is amazing.

  • hmmm...

  • The 1 dislike must have been Christopher Reeves since they didn't finish this technology before he died

  • I'd like to Artificial/Interactive Memory appear quickly based on similar mechanism. Just imagine that your experience is storage not only in the brain, but also in the device. After the death of your natural brain you're still alive. Because what are memories? Just algorithms of neural activity that must be able to be copied into device in future. Then only transplantation of the device into new body bred in a laboratory. And you can live forever in the paradise on the Earth. Kurwa, zajebiste!

  • No you got it wrong. Disregarding the fact that with todays technology this impossible to achieve. That would result only in a COPY of your brain. It would be just another 'person', who thinks exactly the same way as you do. But eventually you will still die... only the copy will reamin alive. Of corse this would be good news for those who love you. But for you. It doesnt makes any difference. There is no way to achieve immortality this way. Think about it.

  • @DoubleHeIix oh, we can get at least longer life: copy of the brain is when our device is not interactive, and it steers only the robotic arm. But if it works as the 3rd hemisphere for any time-it is the part of the brain (for ex. at autistic children the circulation in the left hemishpere is lower-it is just lack of activity of any part of brain, but the personality is still same, with our new artificial brain-old one can just die ). I suggest then to create artificial memory+3 hemisphere as 1

  • This is simply AMAZING!!!!

  • That's nice but we've been discussing and working on this for at least the past 30 years. Let us know when you actually have a fully functional neural interface and it will be news worthy.

  • wouldnt that cause infection having a chip with metal pins implanted in your brain specially due to the fact that the metal might become oxidized causing corrosion but hey what the hell do I know Im no expert.

  • @guerillachan20 That's a good point, but (and I am no expert either), there's a whole section of biomedical engineering that focuses on materials that won't cause infections or won't be treated ad foreign by the body (biomaterials, if you are interested). That's why engineers often work as a team- you'll rarely see a team of biomedical engineers- it's (for example) 1 neuroengineer (me!!), 1 materials, 1 electrical, 1 computer. Team effort.

  • @guerillachan20 The device is silicon, with small metal electrode sites at the tip. But yes, there can be a 'foreign body response' that effects the utility of some of the many device tips over extended periods of time.

The devices are commercially available at blackrockmicro website

  • Indians/Hindus owning untouchable scum (christians/muslims/jews/communists) again!

    JAI HIND!

  • @robowenyt Sorry, but I really don't see the patronizing tone. He made it as simple as possible, I think.

But even if you thought he was patronizing (and I disagree with you here), why would it matter? Who cares if he's an asshole if his team can change the world.

  • It would be awesome if this guy made something that could read brain controls fast because Stephen Hawking could finally communicate well at all, and a so intelligent person like him who can't speak well for 50 years would love it

  • One day this guy will make to Nobel prize. Because the solution his concept will offer will solve problems of millions of people.

  • one of my professor's is a former student of shenoy's :)

  • Combine this with a blood-powered fuel cell =D

  • Be quiet.

  • 4:50

  • The implications of brain-to-machine motor function and communication not requiring organic mediums is absolutely incredible. What I want to know is when it will be practically available!.

  • Its starting to become available this year!!!

  • you are concentrating on irrelevant stuff dude..

  • Dr. Shenoy is the man. I took his neuroengineering class - great professor.

  • there is of course recall and motion inferences in any biological supposition

  • text strings and grids provide faster comprehensible expression and even aggregate cohesion to statements, as ei*s/n*s/nx=i+s/tv iexpressive intelligence*string #+volume =available volume expression(abstract)

  • Simplicity is the best way to present something.

How many neural prostheses experts are there on YouTube? 99% can't write a coherent comment.

  • Einstein made it clear everything should be explained in a manner that a bars maid could understand

  • @sn1pe352 There are plenty of smart bar maids :)

  • no, but the majority of students (like myself) don't study this subject, we are just interested...

  • This may be beyond the scope, but it seems relevant. I'm a little surprised that the type of communication expressed is using a keyboard and tapping keys. Wouldn't there be some type of predictive text or even a vocabulary system provide richer communication at faster speeds?

  • One step at a time :)

  • the intro and exit volume is way louder than the rest of the video huh

  • yes, the talk volume needs to be ramped up

  • thank you prof Krishna Shenoy and the research team, monkeys included :) for this presentation

  • what an intelligent man!

  • He is born and bought up in INDIA.

  • GO KRISHNA!

  • so?

  • What a good speaker.

  • good stuff
