My friend sincerely believes Clubber could beat Drago..Clubber is just a pocket puncher with a lot of power. Drago is a machine with even more power. Plus he's so big, he could keep Clubber at a distance, and let him punch himself out, just like Rocky did.

It was intentionally based on the Ali-Foreman fight, where Ali let Foreman punch himself into exhaustion, and then knocked him out. The character of Clubber Lang was based on the real-life boxing careers of Foreman (the young version, not the guy who sells grills) and Sonny Liston.

This is one of my favourite parts of all the Rocky fights, because here Rocky seemed to outsmart instead of flat out fight... and knowing that Rocky is a drop-out from school and never really a smart guy in the series and how he was mentally down before preparing for the fight, it's cool how he handles this part of the fight with Clubber.

Rocky originally planned to win by continuously doing what he did in the first round of their fight, but Clubber pushed him(which isn't a legal move if I remember right)and then pummeled his ass. So, Rocky had to start messing with his head wear him out. If Rocky wouldn't have used Apollo's style, and went toe to toe with Clubber, he probably would have lost. Clubber is way to strong for anybody to go toe to toe with at this point in the series. In Rocky 4 he could have gone tot to toe with him.
