  • I have discovered that since I speak Dutch, the pronunciation of the Hungarian alphabet comes quite naturaly to me.

  • Hungarian is a linguist's dream. Yes, it is extremely complicated for an English speaker with sounds we don't have, 2 forms of verbs, irregularities up the ying-yang, 19 cases & multiple meanings of words, but is utterly fascinating. Magyars can read 15th cent Hungarian. I can't read any English that old. Ancient & virtually unchanged in form it's quite unique. It shares little with the Finno group, and the other 2 Ugric tongues have nearly died out. Nagyon szeretem a magyart. Jó tanulást!

  • Its very intresting, that my language use not the original hungarian alphabet. We had our own writing in the early middle age,its name is "rovásírás".The rovásírás had a lot more original sound and letter. We brought it from central Asia. But since we left our old religion,we use this latin alphabetic system(aábccsddzdzseéf...)

  • I followed the entire Stella course when it was in the 'demo' stage and free. Though an excellent course, especially for pronunciation practice, it is primarily for the traveler. In short, it's a great way to get off the ground in the study of Hungarian. Hungarian is a beautifully soft language with a rich vocalic system, a fascinating tho extremely complicated language. Magyar cuisine & wines are superb, great music too, pop & folk. Budapest is THE party town in eastern Europe. Jó tanulást!

  • Thanks. But khm khm, Hungary is Central Europe as Europe is from the Ural mountins to the Atlantic ocean and the Carpathian Basin is in the middle of Europe.

  • i try hard to learn . it is very hard but think maybe this help :)szia and hogy vagy my limmit at momet , i would like to learn 1-10 for a good friend

  • Here is the hungarian alphabet:

    a á b c cs d dz dzs e é f g gy h i í j k l ly m n ny o ó ö ő p q r s sz t ty u ú ü ű v w x y z zs.

  • Have you notices that the j and ly is the same?

But, you have to learn it if you want to write it correctly.

This is what lot of hungarians do not know.hajó(boat), but if someone is stupid he writes it halyó. Thats not easy :S

  • Állítólag régen úgy ejtették, hogy képesek voltak érzékeltetni a különbséget...

  • Hungarians do use 'oké', but in a very restricted sense (likely only as compliance). However, the derivative 'okés' is widespread teen slang for good.

Good lesson, even though it shows but the smooth surface of the horrible quicksand of the Hungarian suffix system. :)

  • The Hungarian language goes far back. It developed in a very particular manner and its structure reaches back to times, when most of the now spoken European languages did not even exist. It is a language which developed steadily and firmly in itself, and in which there is logic and mathematics with the adaptability and malleability of strength and chords. The Englishmen should be proud that his language indicates an epic of human history.

  • where can i buy these slides, wow theyr perfect

  • hungarian has lots of words from other languages??? i would say it's one of the most original modern european languages on the whole (together with czech)...

sorry, but there is everything explained like for total morons in this course!

  • Wrong. It is not "original" - it is one of the oldest European languages. That was stated in Part 1. Of course, it has borrowed words from Germanic, Turkic and Slavic languages (Not to the same extent that English has been influenced by other languages). In spite of that, Hungarians don't use 'okay' even though it's the most used word in the world.

There is a claim that 'hello' was originally a Hungarian word.

  • Also. the course is obviously for beginners. It was written by a Hungarian linguistics and language expert who has taught at university level!

  • I am hungarian but I can speak it fluently theres just one problem. I cant read or write it :P!

  • Lol, and you can write (and I presume read) English ??

    Interesting :)

  • This is some serious WTF?!

  • Hungarians do use 'oké', but in a very restricted sense (likely only as compliance). However, the derivative 'okés' is widespread teen slang for good.

Good video, even though it shows but the smooth surface of the horrible quicksand of the Hungarian suffix 'system.'

  • Thank you for posting, very helpful.

  • very helpful, easy to follow with how well the video is paced and repetitive. with learning a language, it is good to have repetion.
