  • If God could sing he would sing like this.

  • My favorite song by my all time favorite soul stirring artist. Forever etched in our heart. Just like our distant lovers...

  • これに勝る歌唱があろうか?! 魂込めて歌うとこんなにも凄まじい歌唱になる希有な動画!!

    天才・偉人の格別な熱唱!!

    upされた御方に感謝します。

  • Woo every time I hear him I am moved...a true gift he had. Missed and never forgotten!

  • Marvin Gaye !! 洗練美の極致の♪&Miracle Voice !! What a beautiful music it is !!

He was a great person !!

Thank you so much for this upload !!

  • Lmao. He just kept it real. Straight up told em play it again cause he wasn't ready. Smh. Damn this is on a beyond epic level.

  • This is Real?

  • WOW

  • no words.

  • cool music

  • Luv u Marvin!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • cool

  • Mr. Marvin Gaye. A true master of his craft who could sing with the intensity of a hurricane, yet deliver those emotions in the smoothest most soulful way. Never will there ever be such a voice on this planet. God rest his soul.

  • I think of Jami Gudknecht every time I hear this. -sigh-

  • THIS IS GREAT

  • this is the epitome of cool

  • I had the opportunity to see and hear Marvin do Distance Lover live and it was a show to be remembered. He rose form the bottom of the stage with a white baby grand piano while the band was tunning up with the intro. If you could have heard the emotional response from the crow, you would have known that the man was standing on silky smooth. He will truly be missed. P.B. AR

  • coked up right?t..these rappers and singers now cant drink/smoke weed and get through the pain of performing a song as serious as this and sound 10% as good.... your pastor high or sober cant command a crowd like this...HE has the best vocals ever...look at how he sings so effortlessly, doesnt take his shirt/pants off but can keep the ladies interested..he had the best VOCALS point blank

  • I know a cokehead when i see one, and marvin is GAKKED up on blow

  • @TheReverendJohnson I agree, he is high! He is still pulled off a great show!

  • It is too bad that this generation will never have an original singer with such emotion and raw sensuality. His singing is so honest, you really can feel how he missed his distant lover. This is a rare talent that Marvin mastered. I miss his beautiful voice. I remember the day that he died, I was devastated. The first thing I thought of was, 'how I would never hear his genius interpretation of a song again. Miss him still. RIP Mr. Gaye, you have become the distant lover we all miss.

  • I thought I read here he had the heart of a lion. I agree. He may have gotten sidetracked now and then, but he loved all people. I love this guy and any fans of his. Peace (and I miss my distant lover in the 410) ;-(

  • ok drakes dad can really play that trumpett lol WE LOVE YOU MARVIN AND I DONT MISS YOU CAUSE I CATCH YOU EVERY CHANCE I GET. rock in peace baby

  • Great Artist Marvin Gaye (G.O.A.T)

  • OMG!! what a h.e.l.l.a sexy song!!! it reminds me how I wanna jump the bones of this bus driver who lives in Strousbourg PA. He knows who he is. right L. Dillon. Also, Marvin is a one man "masterpiece!" simply one of the best!!! such a sad loss to the world.

  • i know the band had a hard time , cuz oooh boy he was high as a KITE but i dont care what state you in if you make music as beautiful as this man you earn the respect and praise from me

  • How come I watch this over and over again Marv', simply the best.

  • Discovered Marvin at the age of 10 , thanks to my dad. Been grooving ever since :)

  • Aretha Franklin is The Queen Of Soul and Marvin Gaye is The King!

  • @deeway1963 Amen to that!!!

  • bad azzz song by a man so, so ahead of his time. thank you Marvin!!

  • @suntrvlr ahead of his time? what singer after marvin ever came close to his greatness?

  • probably the best version of this i heard

  • The best version of this song!!! Background KILLIN' IT!!!

  • I love this man's music!!!!!

  • this is the musical equivalent of a cumshot

  • HE IS THE ONE AND ONLY!!!! I MISS YOU MARVIN

  • D.C. REPRESENTER MUSIC ISN'T LIKE THIS NO MORE....ONLY A RARE SELECT FEW THESE DAYS THIS MAN WAS DEFINITELY 1 OF THEM....U BETTER BELIEVE IT

  • I love this man!!!!

  • The back up guy singing that high pitch is killing it!

  • THIS IS MY MAN!!!

  • The BOMB...let alone the bullshit ok?

  • are the originals his backup singers here?

  • @mjjcng8958 No the background singers are a vocal group called Paramour. They were Marvin's act, that he was developing. They sang in the Doo Wop style of Harvey Fuqua & The Moonglows (Marvin was a member of the group before he signed to Motown).

  • @bolder2009 ok didn t he write a song for them though? the originals i mean

  • @mjjcng8958 Marvin did write this song along with Gwen Gordy. He wrote several songs for the Originals. The song "Just to keep you satisfied" off the Let's get it on album was for the originals.

  • sing it marvin sing ittttttttt. this my favorite marving song

  • My MF'n hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. A true performer. The word artist today, is a misnomer. Back in the day folk like Marvin could sing, play a few instruments and hold an audience attention. The word Talent is too small to describe what people like Marvin Gaye had. The correct synonym would be GIFTED. Rest in Peace----Marvin

  • them damn backgound vocalists were ON POINT!!!!!!

  • it looks like he was feeling this one. it does

  • im 18! and i know this is what REAL soul music is sopose to sound like!

  • @nellybee562 I discovered this at 16 (Damn, thats been 10 years now) It doesn't get much better than this, does it?

  • @nellybee562 AMEN....This guy will never be DUPLICATED!!!!!

  • Oh hells yeah!!! Lawd, this man can sing!!! Such a sad ending to his beautiful life:-(

  • Bring back REAL MUSIC not those who sample and repeat the chorus over someone else's beats. [R.I.P Marvin Gaye]

  • So fantastic words can't do this justice.

  • @LovelyBunn NO words......none. Forget about it.

  • WOW, WOW, WOW!

  • Thrilling - and moving - and sad - and everything! Thank you for posting!

  • So glad this is caught on tape. What a gem!

  • OMG!!!!! Marvin GAVE IT UP!!!!!! Stellar performance....only a true impresario can perform to this magnitude.....fabulous.....what a legacy!!!!

@djglimpsemusic Thank you for the awesome upload!!!!!

  • I've been at that very concert! Amazing - thanks for posting!

  • @kasponya Lucky you eh!

  • Did he almost cry at the beginning? ;'(

I don't know if it was beacuse of his personal struggles.

But this performance really TOUCHES me!

I can see Marvin put lots of own emotions in this performance.

It's hard to see it again, as most of the singers nowadays just speak the lyrics out. :(

  • This is why Marvin is a legend!

  • Marvin.....named after you feel honoured, I know you had soul, but this right here....if you dislike this you are insane, I can feel this comming through my screen here....

  • Something About Marvin, remind me of a younger brother

For Oniel Harvey this is for you.....

  • I didn't really know what the words meant. until, I fell in love with my man that lives in New York, while I'm texas. lol talkin bout distant love right? I feel his love when he's not even around me. Old boy friends use to say out of sight. Out of mind. But when you really open your heart and let that thing speak, it will make u say and feel things you'd never thought you would.

  • Wow look there is sheet music up there

  • Thats A Life Time Of Passion And Pain Spoken Just Right! Simply The Best.

  • Well, Michael is dead now. He was the only still around still making music that tied back to the older artist like Marvin. You're don't see anyone today making songs like Mercy Mercy Me ,What's Going on, and Make Me Wanna Holla. Or songs from other artist like People Get Ready and Wake Up Every Body. THey do a decent job of trying to imitate the love songs of somone like Marvin but not the totoal musician and song-writer

  • i gotta agree with you dopemcee....get me some powder and I will gladly give you a "hand"

  • someone disliked this video...how in the fkk can you dislike this video? i swear i wish there was a list of folks who like and dislike videos..so i can e-slap mufkkas for disliking clearly perfect shit...smh

  • Awesome performance and one of my favorite songs.

  • Great piece/. just,,,you also have to follow the bass line. Kinda makes the performance. Would love the same with Jamerson. Who ever played bass,,,,nice tryy..

Still a nnice bit of work a fave song...just add Eddie,,,James,,,Robert......

    proves though....Marvin sang past...the ordinary..

  • please come back am sure alot of us have said that.

  • WHAT A TALENT! THE LIVE VERSION OF DISTANT LOVER ARE ALWAYS BETTER. RIP MARVIN!

  • Comment removed

  • Very good live. I like it even more than album version.

  • true motherfuckin genius.  doesn't exist today. ;_;

    help.

  • LOL...2:12-2:17 lol, classic. The way he'd always sing this song you can tell it came from a deep place. RIP M.G.

  • @belllina Ditto

  • a fave. could have beeen epic...anyone notice no funk brothers??I'd love this more with Jameersons bass line. it still rocks....just not real motown. ok how do you not love anything he did,

  • La Verdad Qué este Tipo tenía un carisma muy bueno!!,canta con mucha pasíon,es muy notable....

  • You can get this mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • Niemand is ooit beter geweest...... echt niemand... Prince komt in de buurt maar toch net niet!

  • I wished his father was a good man

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS MAN. I was born after his death and am so sad i wasnt able to live during his time

  • This guy is a legend! America needs someone with a soul like his so badly! (the shots of the trumpeters changing their music were a little less than amazing...oops!)

  • The best.... luv this song..

  • I had to fight back the tears. I am so choked up by this performance of one of my favorite Marvin Gaye songs. He is sorely missed.

  • Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul, and Marvin is the King of soul. He has been making hits since 1963. Both the albums I Never Love a Man (by Aretha) and What's Going On (by Marvin) forever changed R&B they took R&B to the mainstream.

  • he would have made a fantastic actor

  • One of a kind, no one has ever come close to giving it up like this man, maybe james brown a close second, but marvin just oozes heart, passion and sex! Never again will we see a performance as good as this, not from todays artists. Forget your flashing lights, fireworks, backing dancers and crazy dance routines, this is it here, the real deal, 1 band, 1 Marvin Gaye and pure soul. No other like it!

  • i find him very attractive

  • our lover man

  • A QUOTE-Marvin Gaye: 'the Prince of Soul'. Listening to his voice is almost like having liquid gold filtered through your ears. SO TRUE

  • MY GOD, HE IS JUST THE MOST POWERFUL AND MOST BEAUTIFUL

  • Quite Frankly The Best Who Ever Did It !!!!!!

  • @alderopop Maxwell has at least half his talent..i'd say he's the closest

  • Marvin was a powerful singer and you can have the best day going but a sad song from him will make you feel like your heart just got broken. Just how much emotion he put into his music... If I can only have a voice like this I would bring him back.

  • Damn, Marvin Gaye had so much heart and soul in his voice... very few singers can put that much love and emotion in their songs with all that pain and experience that he did... very few I say! Simply one of the best!

  • oh man...........this man is beautiful.....i could listen to him all day long

i get hypnotized by his muzikkkkkkkkkk

  • ça me fait sentire que j'ai toujours un coeur

et que je peut resentire un amour

  • Oh, man, the way he is playing with this. Wow. What a voice, what timing, what a song, what a performer.

  • There 's on one could sing like Marvin

  • man o man i love brother marvin. you could see this brother was in so much pain. he just wanted off that stage. the place was half empty.

  • That could be true, but maybe not. If you're reffering to the pain displayed by his face and body langauge during the song...than I think you may be confusing real pain, with the apperance of pain used for dramatic affect. Or maybe the song just makes him feel whenever he sings it. Now if you're referring to his look after the song...I might agree with you more.

  • WOOOOOO! oh my goodness. when are these damn record labels and execs and radio producers gonna let us have another marvin gaye?? why do they want us to listen to "carry out" by timbaland and timberlake!?!?!? please go listen to that song and tell me its music. it aint. now go to 6:34 and tell me you dont feel that right in your stomach, made your asshole tighten up didnt it? fist clenched? thats music

  • Food for my soul ....

  • Marvin was and is the man

  • i didnt know woody harrelson played sax @ 1:15

  • R.I.P. Marvin, We love and Miss you. Not one of the best....Simply THE BEST.

  • Do me a favor, resend this without Robin Thicke's name included. You do a great disservice to the great legacy of Marvin by even putting Thicke in any conversation that Gaye is mentioned in. Puh-leaze!!!!

  • @mcragwe BUAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OO SHIT lmaOOO!! lolololol....sorry,im done now, that was really that funny 2 me jus now

  • Still, he was at his very best after he lost Tammi ~

  • A TRUE artist!!! Unfortunately not something looked for these days. Marvin,M.J.,Teddy P... Music is missing you

  • CLASSIC... and he is SO IN TO IT... looks as thought he was about to cry... i remember my mom crying for like 2 days when he died... easily one of my favorites!!!

  • sick drums.!

  • @IMBumbaugh...........check out an artist named MAXWELL.........he's great at what he does and has a real passion for MUSIC and has a KILLER group of musicians with him

  • Comment removed

  • Damn ladys in the audience, there should've been some panties flying on stage after that performance.

  • this is one of the most heartfelt songs i've ever heard the raw emotion that he puts in his music there is no words to describe the one and only marvin gaye

  • This is a wonderful version of this beautiful ballad. Marvin sings with so much sexy emotion, the musicians are fabulous - there is nothing like it now days!

  • My second favorite song of all time, my favorite MG song... the band was blazing on this night

You can hear Marvins heart when he performs

I wish i had the chance to work with him

  • If this your second favorite, I want to know your first!

  • My Favorite Song Of All Time Is "Rock With You". That Groove Is Incredible. After That, All Of Marvin's Music Just Piles Up With Hit After Hit...

  • Oh yes ~

  • this was just a damn classy performance, focusing on ability rather than aesthetic. Not that it wasn't beautiful, but you hardly won't ever see a back up band like that anymore!

  • Forget the voice, watch the performance...unbelievable..today's singers just don't know how to give it up like this...Pure, raw unadulterated emotion...absolute genius. I wish someone would come along with half this talent, seriously.

  • @alderopop

i hate to be the one to break the news, but it ain't gon' happen.

marvin was the last of those sooky sooky soul singers.

so many. so beautiful. all UNIQUE. all gone

it's all affectation and acting now.

    BUT,

gladys and aretha are still holdin' down the truth

  • @alderopop Ever heard of someone called JOHN LEGEND. Fuck. Sorry but I hate people who critizize todays music, fuck they never know what theyre talking about. Yeah this music happened in the past and its great, now its time to look to the future!!!

damn everybody who says todays music sucsk just shut the fuck up

also if you love this, look up JOHN LEGEND AND THE ROOTS

great music still lives today just look it up damn

  • @Mikespyke I agree but artist like this are few and far between and dont get enough credit these days.... so music doesnt suck but the music that the industry chooses to promote heavily, sucks!!!Thank God for artist like John legend, Jill Scott , and the Roots!!!

  • @Mikespyke Most of todays music does suck

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I love Marvin Gaye always have. I had the pleasure of meeting him. such a graciuos man, such a beautiful man. I played this song over and over for years. It has a lot of meaning to me. I lost the love of my life, in the 70's and still consider him, my distant lover. The song still grabs me and takes me back. Now I have fond memories, then it was so new, it was like an open wound. I just cried when I heard it. Now I can smile. Marvin your the best!!!!!!!!

  • lol i feel the same way about this song..

  • Wish I'd had the chance to meet him ~

  • Only person I think could be as soulful as Marvin and that was Gerald LeVert and the reason I say that is that when I saw Gerald live his passion was second to none but he's also Eddie LeVert's son so the apple don't fall but I'm not saying Gerald is in Marvin's league but Gerald was the last great soul singer that sung real hard

  • yes!!!!!

  • gerald levert?? blasphemy! LOL...RIP in gerald but marvin is in a category all by himself!

  • You Are So Right There... But, D' Angelo Is A Cat That Puts It On The Line Too

  • He really loved Tammi Terrell and she was his soulmate. He was not the same after he lost the love of his life. Now....they are together.

  • whew chille!! preach!!

  • The camerawork and editing could have been better - we have Marvin singing his heart out and a long shot of his musicians adjusting their music notes on the pedestal...what's going on? Whoever directed this made history but could've done a better job!

  • there is so much emotion coming out of him. its almost like he is going to cry on stage. i fricken love love love marvin gaye. soooo sexy.

  • I saw Marvin at the Odeon Concert Hall in Birmingham the year before we lost him.... I have never experienced a live singer like Marvin Gaye, unbelievable, superb... such a loss to everyone. The superb soul searching voice of a natural talent. Listen and adore x x x

  • There's simply no one like him, no one with songs full of such horrible passion and longing.

  • After reading more about Marvin I can see his inner torment coming forth in this performance in particular. He really means his words; his thoughtful pauses and stagemanship are the breaths he takes to summon the pain which had filled up his heart for so long.

  • absolutely no one. i wish i was alive back then to witness such greatness and soul.

  • I love the band.

  • We are missing this kind of soul now. Anthony Hamilton is the closest thing but is too inconsistent, I even like Robin Thicke but they can't touch Marvin

  • I agree about singers today....but they can't hold a candle to Marvin Gaye.

  • Hey Now... Anthony Is A Good Performer For Sure But, D'Angelo Is At The Top Of The Pile For The Soul Artist Today Even Though He MIA Right Now. You Cant Even Mention Robin Thick In The Same Breath As These Cats. They Have Been Putting Out Album After Album, Style After Style Trying To Sell Robins Music ... I Know He's Doing His Thing But It's Marketing In His Case. They Have To Find Music For Him It's Not From The Heart Type Music... Sorry!

  • The greatest...

  • Daaaaaamn!

    i love this song :X

  • That's the $64,000 dollar question. The only soulful artists I've heard recently have come from the UK. Nothing in the caliber of Marvin or Aretha though. Sometime in the late 80s and 90s america lost it's soul.

  • So Damn True!!!!!

  • Yeah! I've just been watching the Watt/Stax documentary on this cable station and it just made me wonder. In a span of 20 years this vibrant soulful culture disappeared. You can almost make the same argument with rock. Soul music seemed like it was changing right up until the eighties until hiphop really dominated black culture. Seems like it didn't even have the a stagnant phase. It was just lost. Now when an up and comer tries to do R&B (Usher?) it doesn't even come close.
