Atlas wanted to destroy the pillar holding the earth above hades. he did, but Kratos chained him to the world, so he is now cursed to hold it up

at least that's what they say, which is bullshit. if he wanted, Atlas could just flip the world over. it would probably kill him, but he doesn't look like he cares
