@sweetbrowneyedlady --yes I have heard this about his treatment of his band mates, My question is, how could anyone treat someone badly that HELPED make them famous?? Also how could he not appreciate sweet Kelly, he was an equal to Jeff when they performed. All the guys were amazing!!!!
My mates Zippy, Nigel, Dave and I in the eighties could remember and sing every ELO song ever produced...and we did, much to the annoyance of the general population of Cotgrave......usually because it was way after chucking out time at the local pub and we didn't want to separate and go home...happy days!!!
I remember one of the first times I heard this and I knew it was ELO because of Jeff Lynne's voice!!! I thought this was one of the most upbeat pieces that they had ever done until Xanadu came out!
shinyguru- You're absolutely right! I remember hearing this song as a kid, my mom's a big ELO fan, but never gave it much thought one way or another. However, I think after listening to this song again for the 80th time in a row, it's my fav! Great video too. Man, they were having fun!
I just can't get sick of it. It's one of the best combination's of many music styles!
I have heard it said that there is a fine line between a genius and an idiot.
Jeff Lynn in coming up with this concept and finding such a talented group of guys was pure genius. The way he dismissed the string players and treated people in the band like they were hired hands crossed that line....
Electric Light Orchestra is s0 70s but so many diffrent instaments and piano man forget his name makes billy joel and elton john compined look like a giceo pet
It's hard to find another band in the history of rock that was as innovative for their time as ELO. Think of the risk these guys took playing music like this in the 1970s. Not many artists have tried to cover their work because they simply can't,although I have to admit I would to see a more hard rock version of this attempted
heard this song on the radio, and 15 minutes later i was on my bike riding to the record store with three week's allowance in my pocket to buy the double album. and it was worth every penny.
I bought mine from a schoolmate in about '81. Hours of fun with the model, the posters, the sleeve notes, the statistics, the lyrics, the artwork. A complete package. I prefer CDs in most ways, but you got so much more 'in your hand' back in the day.
@stooge81 It was part of my graduation reward. Dad said I could have anything I wanted if I got straight A's upon graduation. He was broke, and I was happy. The end.
Symphonic Rock was awesome!!!!

Ah. That explains where another British band with a string section and overbearing front man--- Dexys Midnight Runners--- got its model.

I love how one of them is using a violin, that just gives another feeling to it, like classical music feeling, I like that man.

The title of Supergroup is soooo richly deserved by ELO.
Jeff Lynne is a genius.
