Blues in the key of G. If the harp is in the key of C and you play a scale from D to D (in C) you are playing in Dorian mode of D ---the white keys of the piano--- which sounds nice in standard blues chords progressions. The blues tones are the flat 3rd and flat 7th of D, which would F and C.
hi, i am new to the whole harmonica thing...what harmonica should i buy..i wanna play the blues but at the same time i dont want it to be shrill...what is a good brand
@BlueHazel0101 I'd recommend a Hohner Special 20. It's a great harp that's not too expensive. Go for one in the key of C since this is the key that most instructional material will be aimed at. Good Luck!
That you want to steal my ideas is a great complement, however I'd be lying if I didn't say they were already stolen from other far better players than myself. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks. Probably the best book I ever bought about the harp was Steve Baker's Harp Handbook. It's not an instructional book - more of a reference but it's well worth owning a copy.
Yep - On and off over many years. I've recently picked up the harp again after getting inspired by guys like Adam Gussow and Jason Ricci. Good luck with the harp - there's loads of great lessons out there on YouTube!

in diatonic C, the first chord beginning on G is a G7 (flatted 7th). The four chord is C major. The five chord is a D minor (flatted 3rd and 7th)

@weepingmoon1 If you expand the video details just below the video itself you'll see that it's played on a C harp in the key of G - 2nd position.
