The fire chief in this video seems to be a pro-active person which is good for his town. Where fire is concerned, it is too late to act after the fact. It is the same with the airline industry.
ive been to see about 10 or so bands this year, the pyro at nickelback/br ben/shndwn/sckppies- HUGE PYRO- LOTS of it!!! specially duing the song BURN IT DOWN, for reference watch video, INDOORS!!
@genesis3750 I must agree this story is ridiculous safety measures for great white? do they have safety measures for every band that plays? what a joke!
We all know that the manager didn't use his head in this, but neither did the club owners. Number one, Emergency exits should open OUT not in IN, and the fact that the club was over its capacity pretty much sums up that the owners didn't take it seriously either.
i read on other sites that the band wanted to use pyro at some other place the night before and the guy had to threaten to call the police and confiscate their pyro gear to stop them. i also read someone say that the band's security blocked off the other exit that the band was using after the fire started forcing everyone to use the front exit.
GW is most definitely at least partly responsible and if they can't claim responsibility maybe they don't have any business playing shows anymore.
who would use pyro indoors anyway, especially with a low ceiling. white shark and their crew must of been a bunch of retards if nobody noticed the potential for disaster. white shark are z list band anyway. save pyros for stadiums and arena's and sucesfull bands!
i only ask because if you were a 43 year old paramore fan called karebare who was a man then i would not know where to begin with the insults! if your a dude, i suggest you dont reply!
This is hyperbole. Obviously they aren't going to use pyrotechnics again...and furthermore, this news station is probably scaring people and reducing the sales of tickets to the show which will help the victims' families!
cont - and I find it almost eerie that there was some one there with a camera who was there to video tape the safety of the club THAT NIGHT. its like something formed for one horrific night, just wiered. my heart really goes out to everyone that night affected. ::shakes head::
Its unfortunate and a great loss was had. a part of me says Hey, the ceiling wasnt that high and using these pyros may not be a good idea. I have read..I couldnt even tell you how many things I read today on this, and it really does fall on this person who set the pyros up, and the band doesnt do that part. and at this junction in time the manager (if i read right) has taken full responsibility. I'm a fan of great white and still like them and their music.
I'm sick of seeing Great White talked about as if they're murderers. Although the decision to use pyro proved to be tragic, it was just a horrible accident.
i heard that the owner of the Rhode Island club was so cheap that, the night of the fire,he actually turned down the thermostat to save a couple of bucks on heating oil!!! and he also waters down his water to make it last longer!?
The Station Nightclub fire was a very preventable and tradgic event that impacted more than just the people who were hurt/killed. This report was just INFORMING the general public who may or may not of been worried that they had nothing to fret over.
Personally, I don't right care for GW, but others do and did and they, the living and the dead are/were just trying to have a night out. awful that the fire happened. Nobody deserves to die like that. May God bless the victims/families.
lets do the math. $18 per ticket, the club holds 225 and a total of 3 bands. thats $4050 to split between 3 bands. thats $1350 per band. thats $340 for each member. what the fuck? i guess that money isnt everything. theyre doing what they love to do.
Although there are several bands in a concert, rarely if at all do the openers get paid as much as the headliner. And in situations with mulitple openers the chances are a band or two didn't even get a check. They were just given the opportunity to play for a large audience in the hopes of winning over some fans. Beginning bands get their start this way. So you are right in that you have to love what you do. But the headliners aren't working for peanuts.
Thanks for watching, Ellumin8, and I appreciate the comment. But I disagree with your opinion. When I produced this story more than three years ago, I made a point to report on the safety measures that were being taken for Great White's show. Also, if you'll recall from the end of my report, I did say organizers expected no problems. And while I value your input, Ellumin8, I have a further issue with your calling my station's newscast ridiculous. I take my job rather seriously.
This story was VERY pertinent for local news anywhere. A newly hired reporter (4 days on the job) and his cameraman were in The Station nightclub doing a story on Nightclub safety when the fire started. A subsequent civil suit alleged they were liabile for blocking an exit with their equipment. Their TV station has agreed to pay $30 million but steadfastly denies liability. And no other videos shot inside at the time show any video equipment near exits. Total payout offer so far - $175 million
@genesis3750 I'm sure you took looking to make a story out of nothing VERY seriously, because you did a great job of it! This "production" is an example of why people often bash the media, particularly local newscasts and so called "slow news days". It borders on just plain bad taste, the RI fire was a tragedy but an anomaly and I sincerely doubt that GW has even used pyrotechnics at ANY show since. But here we are making like burning down clubs and killing 100 people is all in a day's work!
@genesis3750 But you'r an idiot for saying that the band was to blame, didn't you ever read up on the issue? You'r supposed to be a reporter(or?) do some research before glabbing your mouth. There where many reasons why RI Station Fire occurred and you can't really blame only the band....moron!
why are 100 people going to a Great White show anyways? Because they are the only gig in town? Shit, I'd rather stay home and watch Leave it to Beaver and Jack off to June.
Thanks for the report Joe, eh. Lets hope there's no repeat pyro performance from Great White tonight....eh? Its aboot time we stop pyro in tiny clubs eh? Go Maple Leafs........eh. Its aboot time.
Yea... Great white was a great band in the late 80s... so blame themanager....

the breakdown is more like:
4050 in tickets, GW (example) gets 60%
opening act (touring) gets 10%
club gets 10%
promoter gets 15-20%
merch: 225 people, probably 100 cds at 15 a piece, plus probably 40-50 shirts at 20-30 a piece.
1500 on cds, 100% to artist
1000 on shirts, 100% to artist/crew
