  • Although renewable energies only supply about 10-12% of our total grid, in time they will reach 100%.

I believe that we can reach 100%, do you?

  • That or you guys can keep blowing up mountains which take millions of years to form up.

  • People can say how solar wind and geothermal will never become our dominant resource for the future, they can say that they are inefficient and are more expensive then coal, but here's the thing; Renewable energy are becoming far more dominant in our power grid. Solar just an example, from PV 16 GWe 2008 24 GWe 2009 40 GWe 2010. Wind geothermal too has grow pretty significantly in the past few years aswell.

  • ...conversely, the 'coalers' must return the disturbed areas to a naturally functioning setting. This is what Canada, the EU and Australia do- And their system works! I've always known how Canada does this. I've family from Canada. We make laws for these needs. However... It is becoming very obvious that many of these 'enviro.org's want something a little more ulterior in mind to occur... No. Not the stopping of this "Mountaintop..."etc. But, the complete eradication of coal-mining in the USA!!

  • ...a meeting of the minds: Of ALL the 'coalers,' ALL the environmental ".org"'s Congress and the Court; to FINALLY, legally and realistically-environmentally come to terms and settlement on this situation. Once, 100's of millions of years ago- when Africa was part of N America these here Smokies were as mighty & tall as the Rockies.

By design? No...by coincidence & collision btwn continents. 4eons they've been worn-down by TIME&elements. & now, by the NEED for mankind to survive the FX of 'eons!

  • ...ja! Vun kan do mozst ennyzing mit a fvilm und zoundtrakt... Fvor all ze 'mountian' topz vizi-bull in ze open-eeng schott- ze 'violater' ist zo ver-rry... Schmall!! Vot U diszplay here!?! Yeah, what? Look, I despise capitalism. Yet, I support "Free Enterprise." I also hold to the application of RIGHTEOUS & FAIR LAW! As in if 'we' do as Canada(the wrlds'leader of industry/'green') does- then as far as humanly possible: reparations & environmental-reforestation methodologies are to be applied...

  • Good message tell others on other you tube sights to check out mountain top removal, that way the message get's spread all the more . It works thats how many people can and will see what's going on. Many dont know. I have ask them and they say never heard of it so I tell them go to mountain top removal and theyle see. • what ya tryin to cast some of that tree hugger magic or something btw it ya like that mountian so much buy it and no one will cut it down but dont cry when ya can get on your pc

  • @TheTrifire Funny you should bring that up - my family has been in WV for over 200 years and my grandfather & his brother purchased over 2,500 acres in WV. The land is held by my family and selectively timbered and farmed very successfully. Folks like you service corporate greed, have no sense of financial vision for the state, & resort to name-calling instead of problem solving. Always easy to be lazy, watch Fox News, and take the company line. WV people need solutions not ignorance.

  • @mcpancake1 lol well for now till they come up with a way to power the us to where we can aford it coal is the only cheep way and realy talk about name calling . but all this dont realy matter now the whithouse has seen the only way to and other countries have to coal will be here for some time to come

  • @mcpancake1 One only has to look at the Uploaded videos of 'Bloody Harlan County' to see that thing have not changed ....and 'Big Coal' rules and can buy Political leverage so that they may.... 'Move Mountains'

  • lol ya i can c a walmart being put on top of those mountians and not cuttin into them or a school where buses cant get to or wait better yet a place for stupid ppl that think all these things will come the mountians without land that can be built on wake up boneheads

  • friends of coal

  • Wait wait you mean there is still mountain tops here. The way this has been put out is that all mountain tops are gone. Did they magically reappear. Dam I am very confused, why would you make me believe something that is not true. Well anyway please stop leaving the truth out in your remarks.

  • @gholstein80 over 500 square miles of mountain ridges and ecosystem have been systematically blown-up in Souther West Virginia. I highly recommend you take a small plane or helicopter fly-over to check the damage. The coal industry in WV has been very, very aggressive about breaking the law repeatedly "as a cost of doing business." This sort "cheating" actually ruins having a healthy, fair business community, and healthy, safe jobs for the children of WV including members of my family.

  • @mcpancake1 there is 500,000 square miles or more buby its okay there not goin to take them alll lol...friends of coal

  • @mcpancake1 and for realy just where ya gona get a small plane without coal that comes from there dang ppl you realy cant be thinking PUT THE BONG DOWN BEFORE YA TYPE ANY THING ELSE

  • @TheTrifire Your logic is self-serving and your insults are not helpful for anyone. Coal comes from many parts of the country and from companies that don't kill their workers without a blinking an eye. The side of history will remain with those who tell the truth, defend the state's cultural and true citizens - not men who only see dollar signs & their self-serving, short-sited interests. And not those who hide behind YouTube comments blowing smoke.

  • @TheTrifire

Coal to run a helicopter or plane? Who is the one smoking? Grow a brain before YA type anything else.

  • @gholstein80

That ignorance that is mentioned above...thats you darlin. Get with it, get educated. Just cause you cant see it doesnt mean it doesn't exist. Do your research, there are plenty of maps of moutain-top removal sites and a majority of them are all Appalachian Mountains, the people who started tradition and hard work. Ive seen what they do do these areas and if you havent seen them, if you were raised where mountains make you smile, these images would make you break down in tears.

  • Right then - you are one of the folks blowing up our heritage for a pay check. I find it immoral - sorry.

  • You MUST hold the state leadership's feet to fire around economic development by any means necessary. Stop poisoning the people, stop blowing up the beauty and fight for green jobs, tech jobs, and the end of this ridiculous complacency in the democratic (and repub) leadership around economic development. Elect local officials who are willing to go out of state and find jobs for WV that don't require the mass destruction of the one thing the state has going for it - its unique natural beauty.

  • Look at the German Solar and Wind Economy to see the possiblity of a brighter future free from Coal and MTR.

  • The one who needs another look at the German economy is you.

The reduction in coal use in Germany is entirely down to a big fat pipe of natural gas from Russia.

The wind and solar power do not replace coal or nuclear, which are baseload. They do not even provide useful power in isolation. What they do is act like a natural gas saving device, that when available allows less gas to be burnt.

Last I heard the were planing to build 24 new coal plants to replace their nuclear plants.

  • Coal is an old technology that our ancestors started using before knowledge of the environmental effects. We need to start using our intelligence of new technologies such as solar, wind, and low impact hydro to develop new energy and economies that will replace coal and nuclear. Our continued shortsightedness will prove detrimental to generations after us they live and grow on food grown from food and water polluted by Coal Ash.

  • What gives so many families jobs....what powers 80% of the USA electric....You dont want the trees cut down, but the letters you write...what is the paper made of....what is your house built out of....if we dont use trees or coal anymore, think what would happen!!! I myself work for the Coal Co. and if i get layed off are you going to support my family...but they will never stop COAL!!!

  • Hi samsaywhat1

Only 55% of the electricity in the US comes from coal. My house is built of bricks. I rarely use paper - I work for a tech company. The coal industry cares about profit margins - they don't care about you or your family. You should fight for economic diversity in the state for the health, well-being, future of your children & all WV children. I left the state after living there 25 years. 1,000s of us had to leave to find work. Folks like you moved in & are destroying it.

  • ~20 000 americans die of heart disease and lung cancer from coal particulates each year. That's several Chernobyls each year, and it's not even an accident.

If utilities paid for the consequences of burning coal they would have replaced all their coal plants with nuclear and natural gas long ago.

  • samsaywhat1 - unfortunately, the coal industry has been destroying and covering the fresh water sources in Appalachia that have been so important to the land, the communities, the baptismal rituals, and the entire ecosystem. We've walked on the "reclaimed" moon scapes, seen the hastily & shoddily constructed valley dumps, and seen the rage of the few coal industry workers that gain a sense of personal power apparently from blowing up other's home places. Spend some time contemplating this.

  • God did not put coal in those mountains to lay there...did he put water on earth for us not to drink....dont be stupid people...Long Live Coal!

  • Last time I checked it doesnt rain mountains

  • I'd like to live there. I have some relatives in Oklahoma who owns one of the few mountains we have.

  • They should leave the Mountaintop alone.

  • @IBMeddling if they did. how would the lights in you're house come on? i agree, that its a mess. but all the little towns these mines are in would crumble without the coal industry. where will those people work without any other skills but coal mining?
