  • lol the Imperial March. XD

  • Umm. Honinbou Shuusaku died in 1862 so the timing of this video is a little off. Fantastic game though. What else would one expect of the one who became pro at the age of eleven and scored a perfect 19 wins in the castle games.

  • Wow, a go player with seki in his name.

  • Awesome game, can anyone tell me name of song 1:15?

  • something from enya

  • @EvandroSweep Enya

  • Shuusaku died in 1862. This game is obviously more than 70 years old. I thought it said Shuusaku was black. I know he never lost when playing black, but I don't know about ties....

  • He lost game's when he was younger. He didn't lose so much as he go older. But yea in order to get better you've got to lose atleast a few times.

  • I'm not to sure but I could swear that White is Shuusaku judging from the opening. in particular the joseki followed on the left and right sides are perfect shuusaku fuseki.

  • how was the result??, I think B win :D

  • who is black and who is white ? ^^

  • Honinbo is white

  • i wanna play his game online how can i do that?

  • is simple, find kgs in google

  • go on KGS or IGS

  • huh? why not fight out the ko in the top right?

  • im glad people on youtube post games but do you know where you can find kifu from pro games like this one?

  • Check out Sensei's Library. I think it has a list of some Go Databases.

  • whos white?

  • Check the very first text =D

  • blacks move at the very top near the end was amazing

  • O wow this is disapointing. I thought shusaku was btr than this. If he played this match n=n our time he wudve lost due to komi.

  • yes, but if he played in our time he would have been much better because of the need to defeat komi =D

  • That's wut u think. IN reality shusakuu wud nvr cut it so close. He found this opponant to be difficult. And not to mention he was raised by one of the best go masters of all time so i dont think the komi rule in childhood wud make much difference.

  • The lack of komi means he can easily (with his skill) establish an early lead and usually keep it as black. Of course, unless a mistake is made.

Trying to play as if there was komi to use the advantage of the first move leads to more complicated positions where mistakes are more likely, and not very wise when you have an easy lead.

He DID sometimes lost or jigo'd. NO ONE, even the best player ever, was invincible, even against players who aren't as good. That is just not possible for humans

  • ? Isnt shusaku some dude in hikaru no GO. I though he was fiction.

  • He was, but they associated him with a fictional character (sai) so as to explain his greatness in a fun way =D He was arguably one of the best players in Go

  • in my opinion, he was the best player in Go. this wasn't a very good game of his, although...my 9k friend has played better...

  • Now that is just disrespectful.....

  • meant to reaply to kylegomations

  • why? he is a great player, this just wasn't his best game. that's all i'm saying

  • it is disrespectful to his opponent to say that he just played bad.

  • ya, i know what you mean now. before i didn't watch it to the end, so i wasn't thinking about being disrespectful to the opponent

  • I'm Sai. And i'm very pissed with you lol. I was Honinbou Shusakuu!

  • @qwertyuiopdfhgdfsg "Sai" is fictional but Shusaku is a real person.

  • In most of my games, there's always exchanges of territory, but the way that Shusaku is playing, it almost says in his fuseki "This is where I intend to be at the end of the game" And it turned out that way at the end.

  • Hah... Shusaku's existence gave the House of Inoue periodic convulsions.

  • Was Shusaku already the heir to Honinbo at this time?

  • Im not quite sure, but I believe so

  • yeah he was alredy heir at this time (ive been studying shusaku)

  • wow shusaku really puts a lot of pressure on shunseki

  • Wow, I've been wanting to see this game, thanks for posting it! It's a bit coincidental how I have the same go server and screen recorder as you! 8D

  • cool, many people us kgs =D

  • yeah, but I think IGS is a bit better in terms of how many people are ussually open for games, although I know that some computers can't handle IGS. KGS is awesome though!

  • Then.. whith the komi Honinbo lose...

  • 1. The game wasnt finished

    2. Komi didnt exist back then

  • if komi had existed back then both players would have played difrently. Shusaku was the stronger in this game.

  • so...who played white?

  • it says at very beginning, very very beginning

  • Inoue Shunseki

A player who was older and more well known at the time which is why Shusaku took black. There has been from time to time talk that Shusaku used presice "empty breaths" during the game to allow a tie so Inoue Shunseki could save face and not lose to a younger and less renouned Shusaku.

  • How do you create video files of old games? I have an .sgf editor but I don't see you created these.

  • I have an sgf editor, but i also have a screen recorder. you can download them by searching on Google, but it will have their logo on the recorder unless you pay to remove it. then just start recording, and play through the game!

  • not a 70 years ago more like 150 years ago

  • lol, yeh now that i think about it XD

  • I have seen your view responses on the Go Seigen game so... Here's another old pro game!1
