All the FF games have had at least some flaws in them, but no one ever notices them because of the amazing music. The reason people think the games XI and up are bad are because their faults don't have the bulletproof compensational buffer known as Nobuo Uematsu. Let's face it, Uematsu's music MADE the Final Fantasy series what it is today. They should either bring him back or get Shimomura to fill his spot. Clearly, the people at the helm now aren't doing a good enough job.
Oh god.. after a ten year break I just completed FF9 again (beign 14yrs the first time I pretty much missed all the plot). I never had thought the characters would be so deep and touching as they are. Now I finally understand the definition of a good game and at the same time hate the way they have taken the series (FF13 mainly). Seldom does a game make me cry but as Garnet cut her hair ... oh dear.
I think I have to recomplete 7 and 8 too to get a good comparison.

FF IX is my favorite. I like the art, characters, game play, and the more classic rpg feel. The medieval - steampunk theme fits really well. It also has many various non-human NPCs that enrich the world. FF X is a close second favorite. I prefer them over the sci-fi, futuristic theme over VII, VIII, and XIII (they're good, but it's personal taste).

Am I the only one that thought FFIX was average? I love this song and You're Not Alone. Also, Vivi and Steiner are awesome, but it wasn't as good as FFVI, VIII, and X in my opinion. The art REALLY put me off. Not graphics, those were good. The character shape and the way they walk and move and fight and look like 8-11 year old kids... is just strange. The adults like Steiner and Beatrix looked like 15-16 year olds. It was weird to me.

The kiddish feel was relating back to the original Final Fantasy :) But the art was an acquired taste, I'd hate to think the game was ruined by the art. At least you know of good Final Fantasy's though, if you compared it to XIII I'd have cried....

Anyway, I've been trying to vouch for Harmonix to put Final Fantasy tracks on Rock Band for awhile now. It'd be nice to have this, "Eyes on Me", "One Winged Angel" and some tracks from The Black Mages on it.
I must say that FF IX is the last good game in Final Fantasy era, the era of good stories, amazing characters, breathtaking songs, interesting, tricky and sometimes funny gameplay, will forever make Final Fantasy the best game that I have ever played.

Although PS platforms are not designed for genuine 3D imaging, some scenes in FF series look as if they were created with IMAX-3D. Emiko Shiratori has become popular throughout the world with this game/song. The lyrics in English & Japanese are slightly different in this song, however. Emiko also sings in a unit called "Toi et moi ("You and Me" in French?)". I'd love to visit her live concert. I haven't even played FF10 yet, but I hear the newer ones with on-line setting are a trash.
Everything in IX was done right. There was enough content and metagame to keep it playable beyond the end, the story was amazing and touching and took you to some of the most breathtaking places I've seen in a game. The soundtrack was beautiful, I love everything about every character, and I believe it is FF at it's best. The races populating FFIX are some of the best and it just kills me to see Final Fantasy take a nosedive into Sci-Fi as opposed to original, beautiful worlds like IX's.

@bassist274 VIII was a great game in fact my second favorite ff9 took it away though with awesome characters and story and the fact you can see from another's POV made it the best. FF8 may have been great but it lacked perspective and most of the time you were confined to what squall was thinking. I also loved ff9's battle system and leveling system as opposed to the junction system. But both games were awesome nonetheless.

It might even just mean it'll be similar, but considering the amount of people who hate IX, it might be the best we're going to get. This game's moral about life is so deep and meaningful, why call it just a game? The character's their struggle and their victory. The love and the devotion. I'm 17 now, and was bought this game when I was around 7-8-9. To this day it's still my favourite RPG and arguably my favourite game of all time. Vivi will never die inside of me <3.

It wasn't meant as sexist, more like "I'm that awesome, do as i say" XD Not being a snob either :P Just some goofing around :D..... but I guess I should watch how I use that more often... Just now realized how that sounds haha. 8 also has the best scene from any of the FF series. In ragnarok "Eyes on Me" Scene XD I will say 8 has the most complicated story to follow though :/

@GarnetsLostRefrain if i may,12 is fantastic.though the character dont really bond with you,but the dialogue and voice acting was the best in ff history.it has a mix of poetry and old english in it.probably dont make sense coz u failed to understand it.if u wish for it,reply back the part which make no sense to you,i'll explain as best as i can.

cause they related to whatever was in the game. You do not need to be rude.
FF12 didn't have any special feeling. It lacked a lot which others had.
It wasn't horrible. but is not in comparison with FF9 or FF7

@bassist274 VIII was a great game in fact my second favorite ff9 took it away though with awesome characters and story and the fact you can see from another's POV made it the best. FF8 may have been great but it lacked perspective and most of the time you were confined to what squall was thinking. I also loved ff9's battle system and leveling system as opposed to the junction system. But both games were awesome nonetheless.

This video is a great homage to this game. This song makes me cry... this game was truly a beautiful masterpiece! A pinnacle of RPG storylines, music, and character design... I love Final Fantasy IX!

They just don't make games as good anymore. Final Fantasy VII - IX were my favorites. The music in all the new games just don't compare. I miss games like this.

@sephi2oth It's just a rumor...but I heard Final Fantasy XV is going to be the next Final Fantasy IX. The planning is still early as can be, and it's just a rumor. It might even just mean it'll be similar, but considering the amount of people who hate IX, it might be the best we're going to get. Personally, Final Fantasy IX is my vary favorite video game, in the history of video games.

The only FF game I can never get bored playing i beaten the game so many times and I would like to use cheat codes only for having every item and also having unlimited ability orbs every other cheat can suck it. Its annoying to get Excalibur 2

this game forever will be the best. it touched my heart. and taught me several things. This isn't just a video game, its a tale we can all relate to in some way. This game's moral about life is so deep and meaningful, why call it just a game? The character's their struggle and their victory. The love and the devotion. FFix has it all. and to explain the game in one sentence i would say, "love conquers all" FF9 forever

This is my favorite FF, without a doubt. I suppose, for the sake of disclosure, I should mention that I haven't played the new on on the 360 yet. Is it any good?

It has really pretty graphics, but the gameplay I think is oversimplified and repetitive. The story is pretty good, but nowhere near the caliber of the earlier games.

FFIX and FFVI have the best main themes in my opinion, because they're the only ones that make me cry whenever I hear them.

I'm 17 now, and was bought this game when I was around 7-8-9. To this day it's still my favourite RPG and arguably my favourite game of all time. Vivi will never die inside of me <3.
Gosh, time goes by fast these days, eh? Can't believe when I bought this game I was learning my 8 times tables and learning basic stuff for the first time. Now i'm about to leave for university...
Well...my PS1's coming with me. And so is Final Fantasy IX.
