  • u kinda look like sean avery hahah

  • Nice Skates :)

  • I'm so bad at skating, I fell over and hurt my tailbone when I was doing a little hop on the ice. I don't wanna fall again, but how can I get better at skating? I don't wanna just skate around the rink, I want to learn to stop etc. At the minute I cannot even stop and regularly have close encounters with other skaters :(

  • @vincent7487 First, wear protective equipment. Second, check out my ice-skating tutorials for beginners. You can even type in a search on my channel page for beginner ice-skating lessons - - for instance: "how to stop."

  • @vincent7487 :D just get rid of that fear of falling :D when i first started rollerblading i was so afraid of falling that i was falling like apples from tree :D next day i just layed of my fear a side and started doing dumb things like driving backwards, 180 jumps,360jump and some other stuff so the problem is just in your mental barrier (fear) :) get rid of it and the next you know you are skating, jumping, stoping and stuff :) cheerz.

  • @vincent7487 equipment

  • Tibetan mountain horns were absolutely necessary for this vid

  • @ewokboba Stop hating on my horns lol.

  • U don't need a 1:20 long introduction.

  • @atypp Yes I do :)

  • ur a beast :D

  • hmm ill give this a try. i can hop into a double foot stop atm. only last couple steps i need to practice.

  • @ImAussieMate Good luck than.

  • @ANG3L4451 It was.

  • New York accent?

  • @Shad0vvStalk3r Yep.

  • @Prolite Such a sexy accent. ;-P

  • :| How long would a very long time be? I've skated 3 yrs total, played hockey the first 2, and now im focusing on tricks to just be like "Oyah! Look at that amazing crap!" and that looks CRAZY. How long did it take you to get that down so it's flawless? I'm working on the eagle stop now.

  • @JamesHetfieldIsGod95 I had already been skating 11 years when I created the sport, and it wasn't until a year later until I created the Dime Stop trick, so I learned it in a matter of minutes.

  • lmao i have Reebok fitlite 1k's...haa haa. don't judge. love skating <3

  • what do u think about reebok 2010 3k's??????? r they any good

  • @P34NUT55 Don't know. I don't use them.

  • i live in sweden and i hav two pairs and i skate like every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i rock but ut is very cold!

  • what can i do if im scared to do that? i mean im not a skater as you

i only skate like 1 month..

    Ty,

  • @iGotHex The Dime Stop is a difficult trick and should only be done by people who have been skating a very long time.

  • @Prolite well im also scared to do a hockeystop..

i dont want to break my leg but i want to do it.. :(

  • @iGotHex Start off with the basics first.

  • What type of reeboks do u use have a pair of my own ?

  • @DinkyDeane I don't use hockey skates any more. I use Xtreme Ice Skates. I was using Reebok pumps 9k's at the time of this video.

  • that looks cool thanks..i wanna learn that

  • I used to do aggressive inline for years, i bought a pair of ice hockey skates and hopped on the ice for the first time, almost felt like ive been doing that for years, there exactly the same. Its just the ice is obviously alot more slippery so it takes a few minutes to adjust from wheels to a blade!

  • I'm gonna try this next Sunday ^^

Now I'm doing kinda pizza hut stop, it works fine but sometimes I need to stop way quicker than possible with that move :P

    Thanks!

  • @rubyrider11 lol what? pizza hut stop? I never heard of that name before, at least not for a trick. I have heard some weird names before though.

  • @Prolite

Yeah it probably has another name I dont know... I'm not very pro in this kind of stuff, first year with my ice skates. Its when you put one foot forward and then hold your feet like this: | \

Like a pizza point, thats how I stop ^^

  • @rubyrider11 That's like a Heel Grab Stop.

  • thats alot of shock ur getting when u do that

  • @DefiantDevante Yup. It's supposed to be Xtreme.

  • Not so good for your knees and hips, to much shock for your body.

  • @akaredcrossbow I know.

  • oghh dude i was so pro at this last year now i cant do it :((((((((

  • its the "situation" on skates....

  • i can do a 2 foot stop but my back foot is right behind my front foot is there a way i can change that because its really hard for me to do so.

  • @MrPuppet93 Extend your arms more, lower your balance, and extend your feet. Make sure your rear foot is your supporting foot (it supports most of your weight).

  • I've been standing on skiis for about 5 years, would my "skiing skills" help me to ice skate?

  • @jegrrnilau Yes, it would.

  • @jegrrnilau My friend learned skating in a day without any previous experience. It is not hard to learn. Try to go with someone who is good at skating first!

  • finally.. a freaking tutorial for this xD.. <333

  • thank you for posting prolite!

now all I need is some manly courage to tackle a stunt which will

surely be followed by me falling on my a** lol.

will my figure skate picks be a problem.

  • @luckieO7 Toe picks could be a problem, but you can learn to work around them if you can try.

  • @Prolite thank you, for your help!

  • i have a hard time stopping w two feet. i can only do w one foot. any tips would be appreciated.

  • @kerirain Practice all edges on both feet first by way of one footed stops and T-stops. Once accomplished, work on two footed stops. Two footed stops are both inside and outside edges.

  • CCM V05 skates ftw!!

  • after quite long time, i performed this trick again.. really feels good back then.

  • @ivandanu True, especially when everyone turns around to look at you.

  • To all those who's trying to learn to Ice Skate by videos, KEEP UP WATCHING~!! Trust me, it helps :))

  • @yukiyocutiepie09 Appreciate it.

  • I'm gonna try this

    HOPE IT WORKS!!!!

    thanks

  • @muimui3103 Good luck dude.

  • @Prolite thanks i already did :@!!!didnt work ahhhh!!!

    STILL STRUGGLING! =(

  • @muimui3103 You need a really deep hollow sharpening or this trick will be hard to do. I get a 1/4".

  • @Prolite Thank you But Dont Worry About My Problem fix watever you have DOUBT if you do ;p

but really dont cause im gonna nail it at the end ( IN MY DREAMS)« hopefully though

  • hehe nice one dude

  • joyzee accent.

  • @hockeyyismylife Long Island accent.

  • this was funny

  • For the sound your skates makes, it seems they're sharp as hell.

by the way, what do you think about the Vapor X30 by BAUER?

  • @samyloki I use 1/4" sharpening. A lot of people use those brand of skates. Xtreme Ice Skates are expected to be on the market by the end of the year and I suggest those instead for this sport.

  • Strong 1.5 minute intro

  • This guy is one the best instructor I have seen in my whole life.Absolutely top skater.

  • @heckybank08 You have to give me more information as to what you're struggling with in order for me to help you.

  • hey, whats the most basic/easiest wa tto stop when ice skating? because i can skate fairly well forward or backwards...but i never actually learnt how to stop! you probably already have a video up of a basic stop, but which is the easiest one i can learn fast? because i keep having near-misses when i cant stop =P, and im not quite at the dime-stop level yet =p.

  • @walrus98 Either the One Footed Stop or a basic hockey stop are the easiest stops to learn.

  • once i added to much pressure on the wrong foot and had a lots of speed, can you guess what happend =P

  • @snowman2138 Falling is fun as long as you don't get hurt.

  • nt bad..i can do it ald...all thanks to your tutorial..

  • Great vid!

  • Great video, can do this now thanks to you. KEEP THE VIDS COMING

  • @heckybank08 Going back to the lake in Vermont to do more tutorials next Winter.

  • i ll never beable to do that, but awesome video!!!

  • @soffiethetoffee Thanks.

  • @lollerskater - then don't watch it you dumb fuck

  • this video is pretty gay

  • thank you for sharing your knowledge!

  • never ever do it as fast as u can the first time... it hurts like hell when u fas and hit your head that fast :(

  • lol that's why you wear a helmet.

  • @Prolite xD i never thought of that at the time

  • yes yes, realy great vid and stop, but if you do that in a hockeygame you are off balance for a while

  • This isn't hockey dude. It's Xtreme Ice Skating, a different sport.

  • ok, well i just wanted to say it if some hockeyguys wanted to try it out:P but ey it is pretty nice:)

  • Thanks. If hockey guys wanted to try it out, they could, but to do this during a game would be quite silly.

  • or maybe it would be effectful to it as a surprise for the goalie haha:P

  • Yeah, I was just thinking about that, but the player doing the stop has to scream loudly right when he Dime Stops. The goalie will be like "WTF" and will lose his concentration.

  • AHAH yea, and then the goalie leaves the net crying for mommy:P

  • I think that's pushing the envelope of reality :)

  • no wonder i cant stop my blades are duller then donald duck

  • even tho i dont skate at all this was pretty cool

  • Hey ive just bought a pair of Bauer Supreme ONE30's and find it really hard to stop like this, they're super sharp as i have only used them once. does this effect this at all?

  • You have to practice. The sharper and deeper hollow the blade, the easier it is to do the Dime Stop.

  • @JohnPettipher1 ye this can effect you alot try diffrent stop's until the get a bit blunt or else you will stop dead and that will go very badly:)

  • Sweet, thanks for the help. I went ice skating yesterday practicing crossovers, they're a bit fragile but i'm hoping this is because of the same reason. Thanks alot.

  • @JohnPettipher1 Sharper skates will make it harder to stop for beginners. Once you get the hang of stopping then sharp skates can be used to your advantage.

  • Agreed.

  • @JohnPettipher1 It should be eiser with sharp blades, I get mine grinded every other or 3rd week depending on how often I go

  • you also have to break them in. Perfect fit, did they baked them and molt them for you at the store. Supreme's are wider than the X so you might need extra socks to have very tide foot in it. If you don't you going to have feel lose in the skates and then u slide withing the shoe not only on ice and perhaps lose balance. If you try to this on the lake there might be some bumps. I've seen pros flying on the lakes like newbies because of the water created some bumps on the ice. rink is the best

  • cool tips.

  • how sharp do your skates have to be to do an effective hockey stop like that?

  • It's not about how sharp they have to be, it's about the hollow radius of sharpening you have. I use 1/4" radius or slightly more curved, which very few people are able to skate in because it grips the ice so much. You would need at least a 3/8" to do this trick.

  • you are so cool!!

  • dude , your damn good ...i'm amature ice skater but i love this sport... and i'm looking forward to learn some of your skillz. thanks again for this tutorial , i'm your FAN !! :D

  • Thanks.

  • GREAT TIP!

  • WOW! Great tip. I've been skating since I was 6, and now am 23. Still you can always improve, and I can't wait to perfect this technique. I never took skating lessons, but I kind of thought this idea of a small hop would be more effective. Seeing this video now gives me more confidence it can be done at full speed. THANKS!

  • wieso haben wir nicht so ne guten trainer in berlin? :) voll gut !

  • Thank you. Hopefully soon we'll certify Xtreme Ice Skaters soon.

  • The final one was great =]

  • Heyy i have been skating not even a year and i can barrol roll, grapevine, t-stop, one footed stop, and and i must have looked at every tutorial you have for them :L big help, i need too post videos soon oh and since its christmas coming up i think i am deffinately getting t-blades, are there any reason why i shouldnt? my friends have them and it helps them a lot with grip lol

  • If you're doing Xtreme Ice Skating, don't use T-blades. For anything else, that's your discretion. In regards to grip, you can easily get a deeper hollow of radius sharpening on standard runners.

  • Ohh lol what about for general Freestyling? thts all people doo in the blackburn arena lol

  • We've got Nathan W. there who's an Xtreme Ice Skater. And you're right, most are freestyle for some reason. At any regard, I heard that t-blades are suitable for freestyle. Wish you would try Xtreme though.

  • @Prolite Hey Dan - ive got my T-Blades now for X-mas with 15 millimeter sharpening - its flat for practising, but i already get the cobra footwork and the drunekn sailor! If you do Freestyle -> T-blades are my Choice :)

  • Congrats with your skates and goodluck w/ freestyle.

  • at the beginnig you looked very unbalanced while you were skateing

  • I was probably drunk from doing the Drunken' Sailor.

  • hey prolite...ive downloaded your videos now :D

...can you tell me good skates for doin these tricks?

cause i have crapy tecno skates now...and i think of getting t-blades..are they good for ??

    thx for answers

  • Get "Xtreme Ice Skates". They are made by Klingbeil, and they're on the market now as of a few days ago. Email me and I'll give you the details.

  • @Prolite Could you give me the details about your skates? These hockey skates hurts my feet even more..it became softer by days..

  • thx that helped me

  • HOrror movie lol

  • damn you skates are sharp, i love the sound of the crunching ice

  • thats fucking awesome dude! respect!!! 5*****

  • When i do the stop like shown i always slide for a good 8 - 9 inches. Just cant get that slide shorter.

  • Slam feet into ice. Reduce speed. Get deeper hollow of radius sharpening. I use 1/4"

  • Thank you for the reply, first chance i get ill have my skates sharpened up again.

  • look out don't do hockey stops with sharpened skates if you are not a good ice skater you might brake something like i did xD

  • ohh lol what about for general freestyling?

  • I don't know anything about freestyling dude.

  • Yap.Good advice.

  • how long did it take for all you guys to get this stop down? cuz my parents seem to think i should be able to learn all this overnight...

  • Dude, if you're a really good skater, should be able to learn this move within one or two practice sessions.

  • Its not hard its just the getting comfortable with it that slows people down sometimes. I fell a lot when starting out and wasnt too sure about trying this kind of stop. Now i just go all out towards the wall :D

  • i did it and everyone got scared lol haha

  • I like how its done in high speed. But the noise is so loud that i made several public skaters fell because its very loud n made em scared... T.T.

  • LOL, You should be proud of that.

  • Thanks for posting this. I've been skating for years and have never been able to do these kinds of stops. When I try to do a hockey stop at a fast pace, I end up spinning around in a circle. Any tips ?

  • rotate hips quickly, push out hard with leading foot, look forward, push hip into the stop, commit body weight to a straight-lined stop.

  • m8.. What skates do you use?? I ordered from ebay Nike Bauer Supreme ONE05.. They coming next week.. What skates do you use??

  • I have Xtreme Ice Skates. They're not on the market yet and I don't know when they will be.

  • your skates are Reebok.. anw.. thanks man!! everything I`v learned is from you.. :)

  • Thanks. In the video I was wearing Reeboks, yes. Now I have Xtreme Ice Skates. I thought you were referring to now.

  • im just scared if i slide i fall to the side

  • I only just took ice skating up i have hockey skates and im pretty good now i just cant stop using the hockey stop, really frustrating for me....any tips my skates r still quite new and sharp but i dunno maybe i just gotta go for it.

  • Stay low, push forward, thrust hip, push hard, and commit body weight.

  • cheers for your reply, i have ppl saying push down on your toes more??? am skating on Wednesday ill give it ago then.

  • You can try it. See if it works.

  • i too just started to learn to skate. i went public skating with my dad friday and FINAlly got the hockey stop down. ok try this, this is how i got it. do the plow for the first couple seconds then turn both skates to the hockey stop way. it works rlly rlly good. let me no how u do

  • i find it easier wiv more speed. if u go slow i find my skates jus grip and i fall over. and yes jus go for it confidence helps alot!

  • very good video. i can stop, but this video helped me stop better! :)

  • I have less weight on my stopping foot and more on my supporting foot, but when i turn i dont stop any help?

  • what do you mean by muscle memory?

[sorry, don't have audio n my computer atm, so idk if you mention it]

Also im having the same problem as "yourm0mlikesme" over here.

the edge gets stuck on the ice. idk what kind of stop im trying to do, im learning by my self basically. i just want to be able to stop quick at high speed, or just simply stop.

  • Less weight on stopping foot and more on supporting foot. Check sharpening. Sharpening could have a bad cut. The sharpener could be pressing too hard into the grinding wheel or not dressing the blade with wax on the final pass. This would cause the sticking thing. Could also be too deep of a hollow sharpening if you're not used to it.

  • i just cant do it lol

  • that looks rough on the skates. also not a complete stop :P

  • that's because it's a Dime Stop.

  • i feal so evil thnx for the help this is gona scare the sould out of ppl the ar on the ground

  • ahahaha making people fall because you scared them.

  • why dont you actually show us the stop. going full speed

  • because I don't want sever the tendons in my knee.

  • You are the best !! thanx for the videos ...

  • i tried to do double spray

  • i tried to stop with two foot without

jumping.u know just turn and slide

  • why wont my outside edge slide dan?

  • What is it that you are trying to do that you can not slide on an outside edge?

  • that is my problem, my outside edge. It either gets stuck in the ice or hops along and does not slide across the ice. Maybe I need to make it perpendicular to the ice rather than tilting it...what gives?

  • well, this is a Dime Stop so you should have your edges stuck in the ice. But if you're just doing a regular stop and not the DIme Stop, than your sharpening could be hollowed out too much. Or it could be that you're placing too much weight on one particular edge. Also could be lack of muscle memory.

  • do u use nike bauers?

  • no.

  • hi Dan! I hv difficulty on two footed stop. my left foot cant do much pressure that needed. i've been practicing T stop with my left foot and it still doesnt do any good. Do you have the same problem when you were practice it?

  • Hello. If you can't spray as high on your left foot, than continue to practice on a regular basis to increase muscle memory and strength. Continue to practice T-Stops, and on the side outside, adjust your raised leg to other positions. This will help train your muscles for different weight placement scenarios.

  • hey Dan,

I've watched your tutorial more times than i can count and I can stop very quickly now but it hardly kicks up any ice and my skates are still sharp, any suggestions on kicking up more ice?

    thanks Paul

  • The purpose of the Dime Stop is to merely stop very quickly -- to stop "on a Dime". To kick up a lot of snow, you must perform a regular two-footed 'front to back' stop: one foot in front, and one behind. To do this, you will have to:

1- have a deep hollow sharpening & sharp skates.

2- bend knee of stopping towards the ice to increase pitch.

3- Gain A LOT of speed.

4- THRUST stopping foot into ice--don't just push it, thrust it.

5- Torque your hip into the stop.
