@KidsWithGuns1992 no but you can potty train a bird so to only go on something white as paper towls...dont where white shirts while holding them...or you can train to go only on serten perchs but depending on the bird they can only hold it so long macaws 1hr tops smallest i no of sengeal parrots and thats what i have and he hasnt gone on my in 3 months i finnaly tought him to fly of me when he need to go....look up kiliparrot tought my bird lots...besides that
My Goffin, Ringo, used to do that when we lifted the cats up to him. He would fluff up, and lean as far back on our shoulders as he could, crest up and all, and would make like... a growling noise. xD Now, he doesn't do it anymore, but he charges our Chihuahua. e.o
They are extremelly noisy, messy and need a lot of attention. Think of a 2 year old child throwing tempertantrums with a pair of pliers attached to the nose. However, they are also some of the most lovable and sweet birds also Do your research. If it is a first time bird owner, a cockatiel (smaller sub sect of cockatoos) or budgey is a good choice. If second time owner, a white bellied Caiqu is a wonderful sweet mild mannered parrot. Cockatoos however are more for responsible experienced owners
They can literally amputate a finger. Most predators eat large hookbill birds only as a last resort because they can severely damage them in their death throes and maybe end their hunting careers which is slow death. Their claws can right down to bone. This is the same reason a lion or leopard, even though it will win the kill, will not tackle a hyena or baboon unless desperately hungry. They can win the battle and lose the war.
Wow, ignorant. Actually a goffin's cockatoo can't really amputate an adults finger. They can however inflict some nasty damage due to the double point on the lower mandible (beak) and the hook point on the top mandible. Their claws can give scratches, and that's about it.
He's doing that as a natural reaction to defend his teritory and to show dominance over whatever it is that is unknown to him. By the way, scaring a cockatoo into behavior that you want is NOT a good idea. It can create more bad habits. To train him to stay off of your feet when on the floor, push him back with your foot and say NO sturnly. He should already know what No means and he'll eventually put two and two together than feet perching isn't allowed.
Kalin reminds me of my Timmy... He does the same thing but probably reacts even more dramatic! Check out my video of him on our bed running around. Goffins are so much fun to have as pets!
I did check your video a month ago. Timmy is so funny. We nicknamed Kalin "Homer Simpson" too because she has huge eyes relative to her face and always has that CONFUSED look.
I keep coming back to see this video and i just love it.. I only have an eclectus.. Soon in a few weeks im getting one of these guys.. Already met him and he is halairious also.. He jumped off my sholder to take a crap on the floor.. He was scratching my back with his beak and when put him on the ground he did come chasing me and stood on my shoe.. He is not as good looken as your goffin due to little plucking.. Now i just cant wait to get him.. Oh and he's a hopper on my sholder.. Funny
You're getting a goffins cockatoo too? Congrats! Goffins are funny and very affectionate. If your goffin plucks, stick a new feather duster inside the cage. Make sure the handle is attached to something outside the cage & only the feather is exposed inside the cage or the goffin will try to un-install the feather duster instead. They like to see things fall onto the ground for some reason. This way, your little guy will focus on preening the feather duster instead of its own feathers. Good luck!
Kalin cuddled up with our feet too when she was a baby. My husband tried to teach her to be afraid of feet....but didn't really work. We got her this wind up duckling for fun and she was only afraid of it for like two seconds before cuddling up with it and using the toy to scratch her head.
This is NOT a cockatoo gone wild...it's the tamest and lamest I've ever seen. Guess I'll have to show my umbrella cockatoo giving my rottweiler the "what for." Bottom line - VERY tame bird here, not EVEN scaring anything!
They have little black eyes, but they are soft as latex and silk, there was this one at a local pet shop that loved to be petted and it would make a mew sound when you pet it, so they called it kitty even though it was a boy. soo cute
It must be the monkey. Cockatoos and cockatiels have such beautiful eyes and expressive faces. This one sounds like my own tiel, Sweety. (Male but don't tell her that!) It is amazing how cuddly these birds can be. I used to grab my last bird as very effective punishment but Sweety loves it so much She/He will do anything for a little snuggle. When it lived with an alexandran it would end up with its head in the angry bigger birds beak, still singing away as happy as ever. Crazy birds, eh!
Video was misleading, the bird was suspose to scare off the monkey?? Sorry bub, not gonna happen here! Bird is nice and calm, keep it that was unless you want people to be afraid to come to your home for fear of getting beat or flogged!! I know this for a fact!! Got one myself.
You seem like you have a bird with a good temperment. I wouldn't advise trying to scare him a lot like this or he will end up becoming nasty, biting people and not good to have around.I'll bet he likes to have his head scratched. Maybe you can teach him tricks. Cockatoos are pretty smart! As for self-defense, that beak would be enough to keep my distance!!!
I have a bird and the bird is just telling the Monkey Fack OFF!!!!!.....My bird does the same thing to the cat and if the cat goes any closer he chaces the cat all over the damn house....(cat got bit on nose once, I think it learned its lesson) There is nothing wrong with what he did..if he would throw a monkey onto him that would be tramatizing for the bird, otherwise its just telling him BACK OFF
Finally. Someone who really knows birds. Thank you for your comment. What kind of bird do you have? I can't believe it bit your cat. I have dogs also but we keep them separate not knowing how they would react. My husband is afraid that Kalin would have a heart attack and die but one of my blind dogs just wants to play.
I have a cockatiel...Might as well be a dog...OK Imagine this 2 bedroom apartment 3 cats and a Bird...Now Amon the cockatiel is a lion in this house...When he walks cats walk around him...Cocky little thing does not even bother flying...Yeah but I seen one of the cats get up close and he was doing the same thing but the cat just wanted to sniff him WRONG IDEA...The bird bit his nose and would not let go...it was bleeding and cockatiels schreeching pretty much scared the other cat
poor baby!! he isn't trying to be tough, he's scared!!! don't scare your cockatoo with stuff like that, or he'll traumatized forever.. end up picking his feathers from OCD anxiety.
Laura. I can assure you Kalin is well loved and does not have OCD anxiety. You do know birds in the wild buffs up feathers to make itself appears bigger to scare off potential predators. This is quite a natural behavior for Kalin since she does it to friends she's never met before. I appreciate your concern though. There should be more people out there like you.
GIdday Harpca. In Australia those birds are called Short billed Corella's. As far as I know they are Native to Australia. I have never heard of Goffin cockatoo's before. I used to own Long Billed and short Billed Corella's. They make great pets and they are rather intelligent. BTW your g/f is quite cute too. Hoo roo mate . Dingo
I believe you Dingosimon. Goffins cockatoo is probably a name given in the States. I do know it is considered a pest in Australia for its constant raid on farm crops. There are 3 locks on Kalin's cage because she got out a couple of times. One is real lock and the other two a decoy. Thank God for cockatoo's short attention spam. She forgets why she was picking the dummy lock after 5 minutes and move onto other stuff.
Sorry, Goffin's are not the same thing as Corellas. Goffin's are native to a small set of islands (Tanimbar) in east Indonesia -- they are not found in Australia. Corellas are a totally different group of cockatoos (also virtually never seen as pets in North America, unlike Goffin's which are not uncommon).
When the bird puts up its cheek feathers like that, its usually not being agressive, its actually being apprehensive or submissive. That bird is scared of the monkey.
i love Kalin. so cute ^^. but how come he not have a big yellow frill like some of them? or is it just a different type of cockatoo from the ones that have big yellow frills. he is adorable ^^ he looks so soft and fluffy ^^;
Kalin is a Goffin's cockatoo, smaller than most of the Umbrella or Sulfur Crested you see. She is very cuddly and needy and fluffy. Whenever she's on my lap, she starts preening her feather and in bird's world, she's showing off how pretty her feathers are.
Kalin is sooo cute, I like the other videos of her too. My bird seemed to like her. I have too budgies, my apartment doesn't allow big birds like cockatoos in it so... But otherwise, we'd have, one.
For Goffins cockatoo, my husband found it on his research that females have red eyes after reaching maturity or in a couple of years and only female cockatoos like to hop around. I'm not sure if that is true but Kalin does have red eyes and hops around like a sparrow a lot and walks like a chicken. We tease Kalin for acting like a "chicken" all the time.
:o) Our vet told us that adult cockatoos often become shy of surroundings, very unlike babies. So we walk her daily now, get her out of the house to see cars, peoples and dogs. She is a lot better to new or strange things in her surroundings.
aww kalin is sooo cute. i was wondering are goffins cockatoos not good birds to own if you will leave the house for a few hours every day? im thinking of getting one. please answer=] thanks
Cockatoos are very needy. They love to play, cuddle and be silly. See Kalin likes to be on my shoulder? She starts plucking if we don't spend time with her.
what happens when you guys go to work? unless one of u stays home...is it ok to own one of those birds if they'll be left alone for a few hours daily and then they spend a lot of time w/ u when u get back? by the way thanks for answering and kalins like the most adorable bird ever :]
Pet need to learn to play w/toys by themselves. Kalin & Junior stay in big cages during the day & play on the perches in our room at night so it feels like they have a routine. We hire a petsitter to take her out during the day if we can't spend time with Kalin. She plucks feathers when bored. Imagine a bare chest bird. It is a lot of work to have a healthy bird just as you would w/a healthy baby. The best part is they live up to 40-60 years. You better write them into your will :o)
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please see my video clip on a parrot animation and some Victorian trading cards of exotic birds such as parrots, paradise bird, toucan, humming bird etc.
Oh Kalin does get spoiled. Aside from fresh fruits, vegetables, oatmeals, pellets and seeds, she goes out to the yard to say hello to her bird cousins. No, she actually SAID, "hello" to the birds outside.
lol iv got a gofi and it freaks out about anythin lol, you shoulda seen it wen tere was a parrot in this film on tv lol but i betya tht cockatoo coulda taken tht monkey anyday lol
Bad idea having your bird on your shoulder. Especially when teasing it. Great way to end up with stitches on your face. And before you say "my bird doesn't bite" just wait until the hormones kick in.
Beautiful bird though. I love Goffins. He's in beautiful feather.
the cockatoo is not showing off in this video..that is sort of a defense mechanism...they puff up and spread their feathers out to make themselves appear bigger
what a cute bird, is it a guy or girl, but why isn't it doing that swaying thing? my cockatoo hisses or flys away from stuff animals, you sure u cockatoo got scared lol
I don't think it's really scared. I have a goffin and she does that puff/rock/hiss when she thinks she can take whatever it is on. When she's actually frightened (such as of a truck backing up on the street) she gets all tight instead of all fluffed. She gets fluffed about things that are pretty small... like beanie babies or sometimes a plastic bag in my hand.
I agree with you, benabird, that Goffins doesn't get scared easy. Kalin puffs up at everything whether she's happy or not. She was definitely irked by the monkey hee.hee..
Sad to see a bird feeling scared and threatened. Poor thing having that response triggered.

i love Kalin. so cute ^^. but how come he not have a big yellow frill like some of them? or is it just a different type of cockatoo from the ones that have big yellow frills. he is adorable ^^ he looks so soft and fluffy ^^;
RedReala 4 years ago
This would be a Major Mitchel cockatoo (Red crest)
The ones with the bright yellow crest's are called Sulphur-crested Cockatoos

Kalin is a Goffin's cockatoo.
harpca 4 years ago
Kalin is a Goffin's cockatoo, smaller than most of the Umbrella or Sulfur Crested you see. She is very cuddly and needy and fluffy. Whenever she's on my lap, she starts preening her feather and in bird's world, she's showing off how pretty her feathers are.

I don't think Kalin likes the guy.
Kalin is cute tho!

Mine would actually pick up the bad words instead of the monkey sounds
sehape911 4 years ago
That actually sound more like a bird then a monkey!
sehape911 4 years ago
Wow, that's a messed up toy. I'd be scared of it.

Kalin is sooo cute, I like the other videos of her too. My bird seemed to like her. I have too budgies, my apartment doesn't allow big birds like cockatoos in it so... But otherwise, we'd have, one.

Your answer: A good nice peck would be enough. Unless ambushed.

Know what ya mean! We have a Severe Macaw who was supposed to be a female according to the pet store..... 13 yrs later....NOT!
parrotfins 4 years ago
I know, it's hard to sex birds in species where both genders look alike. Good thing cockatiels (the normal greys at least) are easier to tell apart.
furbearingbrick 4 years ago
For Goffins cockatoo, my husband found it on his research that females have red eyes after reaching maturity or in a couple of years and only female cockatoos like to hop around. I'm not sure if that is true but Kalin does have red eyes and hops around like a sparrow a lot and walks like a chicken. We tease Kalin for acting like a "chicken" all the time.
harpca 4 years ago
Dude, my goffins cockatoo does that with shoes.
70eL91 4 years ago
Kaline does that when my husband shaves his head and she sees her own reflection.
harpca 4 years ago
LOL@ "Kaline does that when my husband shaves his head and she sees her own reflection". Very funny. :)
Bopkasen 4 years ago
:o) Our vet told us that adult cockatoos often become shy of surroundings, very unlike babies. So we walk her daily now, get her out of the house to see cars, peoples and dogs. She is a lot better to new or strange things in her surroundings.
harpca 4 years ago
aww kalin is sooo cute. i was wondering are goffins cockatoos not good birds to own if you will leave the house for a few hours every day? im thinking of getting one. please answer=] thanks
Rilaayy 4 years ago
Cockatoos are very needy. They love to play, cuddle and be silly. See Kalin likes to be on my shoulder? She starts plucking if we don't spend time with her.
harpca 4 years ago
what happens when you guys go to work? unless one of u stays home...is it ok to own one of those birds if they'll be left alone for a few hours daily and then they spend a lot of time w/ u when u get back? by the way thanks for answering and kalins like the most adorable bird ever :]
Rilaayy 4 years ago
Pet need to learn to play w/toys by themselves. Kalin & Junior stay in big cages during the day & play on the perches in our room at night so it feels like they have a routine. We hire a petsitter to take her out during the day if we can't spend time with Kalin. She plucks feathers when bored. Imagine a bare chest bird. It is a lot of work to have a healthy bird just as you would w/a healthy baby. The best part is they live up to 40-60 years. You better write them into your will :o)
harpca 4 years ago
haha wow they live pretty long. okay well thank you for answering my questions. a goffins cockatoo is definitely a possibility for me :D

what a sweet bird I hope he gets spoiled rotten!!!
twemont 4 years ago
Oh Kalin does get spoiled. Aside from fresh fruits, vegetables, oatmeals, pellets and seeds, she goes out to the yard to say hello to her bird cousins. No, she actually SAID, "hello" to the birds outside.
harpca 4 years ago
that fluffy puff scared me!

impherium 4 years ago
Bad idea having your bird on your shoulder. Especially when teasing it. Great way to end up with stitches on your face. And before you say "my bird doesn't bite" just wait until the hormones kick in.
Beautiful bird though. I love Goffins. He's in beautiful feather.
ogakorbutt 4 years ago
the cockatoo is not showing off in this video..that is sort of a defense mechanism...they puff up and spread their feathers out to make themselves appear bigger
d0rktastik 4 years ago
i think anything would be scared from an insanely horny monkey...
CNKOMMANDO 5 years ago
i dont think its scared i think that its showing off. all cockatoo's are known to do that.
lilspark3000 5 years ago
what a cute bird, is it a guy or girl, but why isn't it doing that swaying thing? my cockatoo hisses or flys away from stuff animals, you sure u cockatoo got scared lol
HollowDeath13 5 years ago
I don't think it's really scared. I have a goffin and she does that puff/rock/hiss when she thinks she can take whatever it is on. When she's actually frightened (such as of a truck backing up on the street) she gets all tight instead of all fluffed. She gets fluffed about things that are pretty small... like beanie babies or sometimes a plastic bag in my hand.
benabird 5 years ago
I agree with you, benabird, that Goffins doesn't get scared easy. Kalin puffs up at everything whether she's happy or not. She was definitely irked by the monkey hee.hee..
