  • aww i remember this..such a good game!! i loved how most of the units could move and shot at the same time :D

  • @00Atem00 You can still have it for free. (It has been released as freeware.) See my link above for a review and the link.

  • bad ass RTS game, watching the long rang artillery was epic in 3D

  • @blehtubezzz Yep. You also get two lengthy singleplayer campaigns too.

  • kinda reminds me of World in conflict and empire at war.

  • @zoidberg96913 Haven't played both. I'm planning to buy "Act of War" as it has Dale Brown for its writer. "Silver Tower" is an awesome read. :D

  • @zoidberg96913 World in conflict are the creators of Ground control

  • @Mudmongler Goes to show I haven't researched the people behind this game that well. Will take a look into WiC. Thanks for the heads-up Mudmongler!

  • I LAIK THE SAUND!!

  • is the whole game just desert landscape or are there different environments?

  • @Ir0nF1st924 There are different environments yes. My YouTube channel has some gameplay videos of this same game that shows tundra. (Go to Free PC Strategy Games.) Happy gaming!

  • A fantastic game.

  • omg thats cool for even today's standards

  • @TikiShootah It's not for everyone. However for those who like strategy with deliberate pacing, this is the game to get. It's free. See my review about the game on my site.

  • @ildamos Not for everyone my ass! If they had published this game enough, the legacy of GC would be the best RTS series ever. I am so surprised that it wasn't such a success, after all its graphics were amazing back than and the game-play was so realistic (still is). Can you imagine how epic this game would be if they made it today? OMG, I wish they will!!!

  • @IamEyalMarcosLevit Haha! Glad to know someone likes this game as much as I do. The "not for everyone" comment is for people who like more fast-paced action (like say, players of Bloodline Champions). This free strategy game just doesn't offer that kind of instant action.

  • @ildamos I disagree. I think this game was ahead of its time and with today's tech and rendering capabilities you can turn a game like that into a fast paced action without loosing its sophistication. I don't just love this game, I adore it. Just like @TikiShootah said, "omg thats cool for even today's standards" and I highlight the "TODAYS STANDARDS". I just wish someone take that game into the 21st century, It would be so EPIC and I don't throw that word away too often.

  • @IamEyalMarcosLevit Don't get me wrong. I love this game. In fact, I made two short fan fiction about this game and a multi-page review about it on my site. It's because of the fact that the game gives the player the option to scout ahead with recon troops before letting the tanks advance makes it slower than most games. I am not saying this is a bad thing. In fact, you can opt not to scout and just micro your tanks as skirmishes unfold. I didn't say being slower is bad.

  • @ildamos I didn't say you said its bad. I just disagree on why this game was so underrated. People love realism. You can see how today the reality in games and TV is taking over, people love it! I just think, this game wasn't a great success just for the lack of advertisement and was blocked by the over advertisement of games like Command and Conquer which, between us, sucks ass and was successful just because it was so addictive and the various options it had. GC could've been greater, that it.

  • @ildamos By the way, I read your review. I liked it.

  • @IamEyalMarcosLevit Hehey! Thanks man. I hope I gave it justice while still being able to point out some of its shortcomings. I got GC 2 here but I've shelved the box; busy with System Shock 2 and Supreme Commander at the moment. Will get around to it soon and hopefully will post some GC 2 gameplay videos.

  • @ildamos

Yea, I think you did a good job with that article. Anyways, thanks to you I found out they give GC for free and I'm all over the game now, I appreciate it. Let us all know if they release GC2 for free. That reminds me, is GC 2 the expansion pack for the first GC, because I remember back in the day I bought it as an expansion pack, maybe it wasn't GC 2, I don't know.

  • @IamEyalMarcosLevit "Anyways, thanks to you I found out they give GC for free" You might want other legally free games. On my site, on the upper right corner are links to freeware games that belong to other categories. There's also a "Free PC Games" playlist on my YouTube channel. "s GC 2 the expansion pack for the first GC?" I think you meant GC: Dark Conspiracy. I don't think they're going to release the sequels anytime soon though. Anyway GC2 transpires hundreds of yrs after GC1.

  • i have the game on CD and beat it :D its fricken awsome

  • @guythatonlycomments Awesome in a deliberate, tactics-oriented way (just to warn would-be players this game isn't about faster-than-light micromanagement). Awesome nonetheless.

See my review of the game on my site. Imbacore Blogspot.

    Happy gaming!

  • @guythatonlycomments I lost my cd key and I was never able to recover it. I wish I knew before that it was being given away for free :(

  • where do i download this

  • @WarcraftDominator Hello. Please see the link I provided in the description box. Please take note that Gamespot and Fileplanet requires people to register first. It's free (and LEGAL) though.

  • SKD Clan ---> Ground Control 1 ----> Best Clan at world

    Greez SKD Kenshin !!!!!

  • @Xenu07 Yeah!!!

  • howc do I download at da website?

  • @STARCO1231 It's been years so I can't remember every detail. Suffice to say you just have to register with the hosting site (it's one of the largest gaming websites btw) and voila you can get the game. This game is LEGAL to download; Massive Entertainment released this for free to promote the then newly-launched Ground Control 2.

  • @STARCO1231 Hello. Please see the link I provided in the description box. Please take note that Gamespot and Fileplanet requires people to register first. It's free (and LEGAL) though.

  • anyone plays this game online

    tell me pls

  • @jpdias11 Massive Entertainment took down the master servers several years back. However, it still is freeware (check this game's Wiki and Gamspot pages). The SP campaign is beautiful though.

  • @jpdias11 A lot of the comments on this page will answer your question.

  • Is this game online?

  • can i play it on a xp? because this game i have it but is from windows 95/98

  • @ickkck8bcs Yep, it runs on XP.

  • Oh my god

    I loved this game =)

  • @Lurselfe Still stands the test of time. ^^

  • Looks like a nice game,

  • @tm2cruz If you're not picky about outdated graphics and gameplay pacing, this is an awesome game! ^^ If instant action is more like your style, this isn't it. (See my review about this game on my site under "Freeware Strategy Games.")

  • @ildamos I play Glest and Tiberian Sun so graphics doesn't matter for me :)

Anyway, is the gameplay like same to command and conquer or something like Star Craft like collect three resources unlike Tib Sun that collects only one resource?

  • @tm2cruz Very good to hear Cruz. This game concentrates on the tactical aspect of the gameplay. It does this by throwing away the base-building components. You don't get to collect or build anything. Just squad loadouts on mission briefings. However, this is more tactical than most RTSs.

  • gotta love Massive Entertaiment for releasing as freeware games they no longer profit from.

currently they have already released Ground Control 2.

I just dont understand why they didnt release Ground Control: Dark Conspiracy (expansion to GC1)

  • @Luxverus Has it been? If it has, that's one awesome news! Could you give me the link? I got a boxed version at home (not a digital purchase) of GC2 and it would be awesome if there would be a renewed influx of new players.

  • @ildamos

ops, i read once on their own site that massive would release gc2 as soon as their new game got published, but now i just read that Massive does not own the intelectual property for GC anymore, and couldnt find any downloads too...

damn emerging companies for handing away their jewels over to the likes of EA, VU... command&conquer was ruined, now GC probably soon to be

  • @Luxverus For a moment there you got me excited haha! Oh I think this series has been forgotten; I haven't heard any news about GC3. :( What did Massive create after GC2? Was it World in Conflict? Or Company of Heroes? Can't remember.

  • those ships at 0:55 look like those from the star ship troopers movie lol

  • @tehnoob221 I haven't watched that one in quite a while. 'Heard the novel's better. Who here has read "Armor"?

  • is this online???

  • Back in its heyday, yes this game was online. Massive (the company) took down GC's master servers though. Still, the singleplayer campaign should entertain you for weeks.

  • @ildamos Possible to play this via LAN?

Should really dig this game out again. Really preferred this game to the more recent WiC, as good as it was.

  • @Preddykins Tried testing it out with my friends. No one would play citing dated graphics. Kids nowadays...

  • @Preddykins Played it on LAN with my brother a couple times, big fun. Really, really intense (a stark contrast to the more drawn-out strategic single-player missions).

  • @MidgardEagle Nice! Thanks for the info!

  • this looks kinda kool

  • It is. Take note though that this was released last 2000 so the graphics isn't Crysis. :D

  • Funny you'd say that, because when it came out in 2000, this WAS Crysis. Apparently very few computers could run it with graphics on full.

  • HAHAHAHA! RIGHT ON! When I first ran this with all settings set to high, my old Pentium 4 crawled on its belly. Yes, it's gorgeous. I just made that statement to warn off "oh-I-won't-play-that-it's-not-avant-garde" people. It's sad that most people nowadays prefer graphics over gameplay quality. (Don't get me wrong I was a big fan of Far Cry.)

  • The download link is no long in service =(

  • Thank you so much for the heads-up. The download link should work now. (It will also lead you to my review and another one of my Ground Control videos - this time it's a level walkthrough. :D)

  • where can i download it for free and for vista?

  • Click on "More Info," above right. It should work for Vista 32-bit.

  • this game are actually like star craft 2

  • Ehm, yep. Cept this one is in 3D. There are also no aliens here. Only humans --- the story is based on large megacorporation wars being fought across planetary systems.

  • system requirements? enough if old game and working in XP...

  • This game is ancient. Year 2000 methinks. You should be able to run it. Google up the GC wiki page. It's all there.

  • Ah, classic game, I still have this awesome game.

This game was so much fun, and the battles were always enjoyable to watch.

One note tho, on the easier difficulties, the biggest obstacle to winning is unit pathfinding, it was one of the few sour spots of the game. The units must be babysat or else they get scrambled.

Otherwise, a very enjoyable game with varied units and objectives. Very fun.

  • It's free now so in case you break your CD, the game can be downloaded from different sources. I will be making a review of this downloadable RTS mayhap this weekend.

Glad to see a fellow GC fan! Thanks!

  • download-able? i didnt find it free...

  • is there skirmish mode on here or online

  • Massive Entertainment pulled the plug on the GC1 servers a long time ago methinks. There were several people trying to get this game to work on Hamachi but that was a year ago. I don't know if they've failed or are happily playing somewhere. :D

  • awesome but i wouldnt play it i dont like to use cars like that lol

  • Yep the game is old. Year 2001 if memory serves. However, the individuals squads' customisability (weapon loadouts, vehicle types, etc) and the game's features (line of sight restrictions that entail recon soldiers, etc) was very innovative for a game this old. Even now, this game holds up against modern RTS games.

  • awesome i might try it

  • Nice! A word of warning though: the game has a slower pacing than other RTSs out there. This is the Ghost Recon of real-time strategy games. :D If you're looking for a quick fix, this isn't the game to get. If you're looking for a free game that focuses heavily on tactics---using the lay of the land to your advantage---this is THE game.

  • thanks i dont really play rts nor mmos any more acculy i dont play any more games on the pc im working on a game called sonic the golden knight if you know anything about game maker 7 i need your help : )

  • Ah. But that's great! Creating something is way better than playing a game. I don't know anything about Game Maker though. More power on your endeavor!
