HI, first of all thanks for the tutorial its very good. If you dont mind I got a question to ask. I made a model that i exported to Z brush and imported back in maya. But it came back with so much resolution that the pc is also finding it difficult to select all of the vertices. And after a lot of time it selects them, but when I hit wrap maya just shuts down :(
great tutorial. Got a question though. did a project with wrap deformer and forgot to select render influence objects. Is there a proper way to remove the wrap to get the render of the object visible again?
Hi Donrodman3, I'm having a problem. When I wrap my hi res model to my low res maya crashes. My model is a word that I want to animate and I'm not sure if the geo is too heavy for my computer or what. I deleted the history and tried to import the object into a new scene, but nothing has worked. Any ideas?
@PEN1DMC hey man, ye it is probably due to your computer not being able to take the information. To prevent this you need a computer that has a good graphics card in it or it may be that the highres model is just way to high anyway. People new to maya tend to make really high res geometry when really low is faster and has the same brilliant quailty when rendered high! Work low until rendering.

@clym3danimator absolutely mate, but i wouldnt reccomend rigging a leg using wrap deformer because you should rig the leg with joints to be able to use pole vectors for the knees. :D
@donrodman3 Oh right, cos well I'm creating a "low-res" model (like MooM) where it's broken into sections, or segments, but i'm trying to work out how to then make this into a smooth version (again like MooM) - any ideas?
@clym3danimator Well then the best thing to do is rig a high res model with bones and then after the high res model is fully rigged then do the wrap deformer to creat a low res version of the model, then the bones will move the low res mesh aswell as the high res mesh if wrap deformer is done correctly. :D
I've heard this can be used to correct deformations on skinned meshes. No idea how yet tho -_-

Not sure if this method is the best way to use a proxy model to drive a high res model, ... in terms of good deformation of joints.

Does Blender have anything like this?

@SlappieBob Ive only used Blender twice so can not give an exact answer, im totally unsure as to if Blender does do wrap deformers.
Sorry mate.

Heyy are there any other ways go get animation data from your low res to high? Or is this method what everyone uses?
Or do they have 2 separate rigged characters and then copy the animation data from one skelly to the other?

Thanks mate... very helpful video explaining what i'd always called "stahlbergs wrap deformer technique" (but never figured out)
cheers

Just what I needed! Thanks! I pretty much knew how to do this but couldn't figure out the selecting certing vertices by right clicking

very handy. I'm trying to make Maya work with Mudbox and this is perfect for combining high a low res models

Great thanks for this tutorial mate!!! If you were to rig a leg, using two pieces of low-res mesh, can you then tweak the weighting behind the knee?
