This is 'the Worlds', i think the confusion comes from the second issue of this record which has a black transmat label which was issued with the labels on the opposite sides...
Have this 12" - wasn't until recently that I was able to stop thinking this track was called "The Worlds" as the labels were the wrong way around on the vinyl. When all around you were listening to GTO, D-Shake and *gulp" Guru Josh and calling themselves Ravers, you were listening to this beast along with early UR and thinking that Detroit was the centre of the universe.
I remember talking to Neil Rushton at Network when I was looking for SK's The Groove. They had cut out the middles and were literally using them as coasters coz they could not give the toon away let alone sell it. Now here we are 20ish years later and this track has 53k hits. Funny old world this.
Hey statenhal, impeccable taste as usual. 90s Detroit underground sounds as good today as it did then. Hi-Tech Jazz indeed. Thanks, cool post. The label confusion has me in stitches. That sort of thing helped make this music so cool by adding mystique and genuine attitude. That the people making this stuff were sometimes reluctant to be known, preferring anonymity to acclaim, was a big political & cultural statement. There was a lot more freedom in music then I reckon, golden days!
Marc Acardipane was heavily influenced by Detroit stuff and especially Transmat and Suburban Knight. More Or lesss all of the Alien Christ releases are re-recordings of this song.
I'm thinking of a mix brining back the old flavours with the classics re-created but not ruined with a newer style mix. I would do this but using the original techno and house flavours of the 90's and late 80's. Any Feedback welcome.
hmm... i just double checked my copy... eventhough the record says it's The World's, it seems that the labels were printed incorrectly. Very confusing. At the time it came out I used to call it The Art Of Stalking... so maybe I knew something then that I've forgotten now! lol.
aah,, but i've just dug out my copy of the RELICS album which has The Art Of Stalking on it, and it's not this track posted in the video.... so i guess the track in the video above is indeed The World's and The Art Of Stalking is the flipside. Sorry to have added to the confusion!
His Dark Energy LP on submerge is simply amazing. Really dark off beat techno with a very paranoid feel, cant believe the albim was made almost 12 years ago!!
I opened the door for the first time of the 'Club 55' (Kuurne, Belgium)and this song was playing.. And there was a new world for me. Things will be never the same again.
Ahhh, good times. Feeling like a wannabe as I try to act casual inside UR store. Thanks Mad Mike, thanks James. I wish I would have bought every UR record available...
can't believe this was made in 1990! I don't own the vinyl, but if you pitch it up a tad it would sound wicked with a lot of the Basement Records stuff from 92 and the new stuff on J-Tek records. Gonna have to listen to this one again!
jesus.... Suburban Knight.. didnt get any more serious than this for a while.. when it came out.. Notice the label is actually a re-issue.. probably 4th or 5th run.. they started introducing colour and images on the label.
i dont like it....i love it 'just joking' i really dont like too repetitive,boring not detroit's best. great and beautiful examples of detroit techno are... flashflood,surkit,drama,salsalife,the beginning, the replica ep[keith tucker],infoworld,a relic,icon,kaotic harmony,funky funk funk,unity,electro files ep,techno music,nightdrive,the chase,the passage,vessels in distress,thought process,walking on water,194,the flow,impulse,milkyway,track ten,un deux trois,sequence 10,feels surreal... etc
You check your facts , smart arse. There was huge confusion at the time of release due to the mislabelling.I wonder why the "relics" compilation has a track on it listed as the "Art of Stalking", and that track is NOT the one playing above ,its the flipside to this....
