  • you seem like the most ultimate eddie van halen fan that i know of since dimebag \m/

  • You look like Zappa.

  • Great tutorial! I never knew why alot of this stuff happened (like 5th fret harmonic was higher than 7, etc.) but your a very good teacher!

  • the real name for "palm harmonics" is slide harmonics

  • Something tells me you are a van halen fan...

  • This explanation is too long-winded. Too much banter and not getting to the point. Save some time and just skip ahead to 3:15-4:15 for the actual explanation of this specific technique. The rest of the video has nothing to do with the actual technique.

  • @komoru

For those of us who enjoy remaining ignorant, yes. I understand that there was a little too much information here for your small mind to handle, but that's your problem. Everyone else here enjoys learning something.

People, I get really tired of morons who choose to remain morons. When people complain that something is explained TOO thoroughly and there's TOO MUCH knowledge to be had, JUST IGNORE THEM. They are stupid and small and shall remain so. Open minds always go further.

  • @CDenic Bro, you have trouble focusing and staying on the topic in the video. Only about 10% of this video actually explains the subject of palm harmonics. The rest goes off topic. That's a fact that nobody can argue with. You want to call me ignorant and a moron for being honest, be my guest. Calling someone names is certainly the mark of intelligence and really lends credence to what you say.

  • @komoru

So what you're saying is either that:

    1. You didn't understand a word I said throughout the rest of the video, or...

    2. You didn't watch it at all.

If you think that explaining what causes harmonics to sound and demonstrating variations of the technique is irrelevant to the subject, there is something seriously wrong with you.

And calling names would be me saying, "You cocksucker!" I didn't do that.

I said you were a moron. That's not namecalling, it's just accurate. Deal with it.

  • Excellent lesson CDenic! You should do more of these. How about one on Eddie's whammy bar technique?

  • nice lesson. thanks.

  • great lesson! this explained a lot, i find it easier now. and i find it funny that metallicafan83 hasn't even commented haha

  • also one other quick tip. instead of using just two fingers, use the 2 fingers and pull of to the open string. EX; on the D string pull off like 4,2,open,4,2,open...works much much better and i beleve thats how eddie played it

  • dude no offense but ur not very good at it dude. a word of advice, use ur left hand a lot harder when actually pulling the strings and with ur palm put it on the strings harder. all in all, do the technique a lot rougher and grittier than u normally do it. not trying to be an asshole, just trying to helP!

  • I was just wondering if you've ever heard of this great guitarist named "Eddie Van Halen." He's quite fantastic, and has a totally cool looking guitar. You should check him out.

  • He got Eddie's signature on the video

  • haha I was being sarcastic :D

  • hey man thanx for the good tutorial. your an awesome teacher. i was wonderin if your guitar is a real van halen guitar and how much its worth.

  • Great video, very explanatory.

By the way, "touch harmonics" are usually called "harp harmonics."

  • I remember them being called that...

I dunno, I almost never use the technique. Guess I forgot. Thanks.

  • A very great lesson, you should make more! :)

  • great lesson

    and great teacher

    :)

  • at 7:29 when you are hammering on and off are you keeping your right hand lightly on the 12th fret or are you keeping hammering on and off

  • Keeping in contact, which keeps the harmonics going as I hammer on and pull off.

  • i want ur guitar

  • marios well good

  • hey guys does anyone in here knows how t oplay a semi harmonic on the guitar?

  • it's a weird technique, i think somth like you need to get the harmonic ringing, but you;ve got to hear the basic note ringing also...

  • lmao if you don't believe me you can get a ruler, nice touch... oh and great video =)

  • Damn that was good!

  • veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy goooooooddddddddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • where did you get that guitar strap?

  • Ebay.

  • what did you search

  • CDenic, how do you those slide harmonics? i've seen guitarist placing their hands over the neck pick up and sliding up the neck making this squeal noise, like what kirk hammett did in this video:

    watch?v=ioIUA_6UN5M

Can you make a video on that?

  • That's not a harmonic. All he's doing is moving the slide past the fingerboard to a really high note. You don't have to slide only on the fingerboard, you can go as high as you want. There really is nothing to this, just get a slide and mess with it. For the record, I can't play slide to save my ass, but I can do that with one hand!

  • It's okay, you don't really have to show me. You've explained it well enough for me to understand. thank you

  • No problem.

  • Hey actually,if u pay attention to his finger he has some sort of finger thingy? It is called a bottleneck.Search on wikipedia for slide guitar or something like that.Just throwin somethin extra.Ur videos rock

  • Awesome lesson dude

    Really clear

    Cheers

    KEEP EM COMING

  • Can you tell me your gear thanks

  • Click "more info".

  • Excellent Lesson!!! Love the amp sound. What Roland MicroCube watt amp are you using?

    Thanks

  • Metal? wasn't that in the 80's

  • Yes...back when people could actually PLAY.

  • AMEN

  • youre that guy on the paint your own guitar website i just need one question what clear coat do you use on your guitars? i am having trouble which clear coat i need to use

  • I used to use Krylon Clear, but Krylon changed their formula and the paint is crap now. Over time, little lines and cracks appear in the finish. I haven't tried a different type of clear yet, so I can't recommend anything right now.

  • thanks i am making the same guitar and the frankenstrat with the banana headstock but mine has a fender body with three pickup spots

i figured i need to use the duplicolor clear coat since i bought the duplicolor paint

  • I've made a few Frankenstrats too. DupliColor Clear would probably work well. It's one of my next two options, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm looking into a catalyzed clear so I don't have to wait so long to sand it, but those are expensive.

  • dude

    that was a great lesson

thats a really nice guitar 2 dude

eddide is my favorite guitarist i can c hes one of urs

i always wondered how 2 do that so

    thanx man

    i owe u one

vh fans 4evr rock on dude

  • its called Auto-Flanging dude..not palm harmonics.

  • yow men... ur a very gud teacher huh..

  • isn't that guitar well, kinda expensive?

  • $1,200...and worth every penny!

  • Your a great teacher man, very informative and helpful.

  • Hey. This is VERY INFORMATIVe. thanks so much. Gotta try this when i pick my guitar up next time. I was wondering if you knew how to do the really high squeal that Satch does. I believe he touches somewhere off the fretboard? I'm not sure. It could be breif i sorta understand the harmonics stuff after this video. Thanks in advance = ]

  • try pickin a high harmonic mayb the 12th fret, pick closer to the neck pickup and you shud catch a really high harmonic, then bend the string up and pull the trem back also. thats how i get it... it aint how satch does it but its better than nuthin XD

  • I'm working on another video to respond to a tone question. I'll answer your question in that video.

  • thanks alot man !! Your vids are awesome =]

  • wow! this helps alot thanks so much!!
