Arena rock icon’s, the first commercially successful American rock band, and even though the media hated them, the crowds loved them! In fact they broke the Beatles Shea stadium attendance record by selling out in just 72 hours,And if that’s not enough to convey how popular they were during that time then consider this…they opened for Led Zeppelin and manager Peter Grant gave the order to cut their power and have them removed from the stage because the audience responded so well to their show.
I was in Viett Nam when i was listening to Grand Funk Railroad as much as i could, and we got to go to cambodia to a live concert they did for us troops in nam,I thought it was awesome then and still do they are still one of the greatest bands of all times
This is energy and music at it's best! I saw these guys do this at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City a loooong time ago, when they were still on top! The show they put on was incredible,I tell you.WHEEEEEEW!! Mark can still sing this great, too.Oh,and his hair was so long it was below his belt. He wound up cutting the pony tail off for charity, selling it for a whopping $13,000.00!
I don't remember there being any energy drinks back them...These guys were the very BEST !!! So good in fact they opened up for Led Zepplin(also a great band) and were booed when GFR left the stage.
Mark, Don, and Mel. Saw them in 1996 at a county fair and saw the Chili Peppers at a much larger venue. If only the fools at the Peppers concert knew what they were seeing had already been done better 25 years prior.
these guys dont need 2 be in the hall of fame because the shit people they have in there nw it wud just seem bitter sweet nw, plus any1 whos a fan of GFR knows there the best anyway so its all good. PS fuck Beiber
Are there any REALLY GOOD GFR tribute bands around? If so, I'd love to see some vids with them in it. ESPECIALLY doing this song. If anybody does do a tribute to GFR, they should have the same energy level as GFR otherwise, it would just be a waist of time, because that is one of the outstanding attributes of GFR!!
@yucchhiiowwee Yes , There is the " Back City Rockers " A Japanese Band , and they are very good ! They have a bunch of videos of them doing Grand Funk songs.. And they do T.N.U.C. But the one I was impressed with is Black Licorice.. Watch a few videos , They are fun.
@47tooter Hey hey, I appreciate that. I'm going to check that out for sure! Thanks. And just so you know, GFR was the very first concert I ever went to in either 1973 or 74 during the shinin' on tour. Wet willie band opened for them.
Fair exchange: put Grand Funk in the Hall Of Fame, take out ABBA, Lovin Spoonful, Rascals, Mamas & The Papas, and you got a deal. People talk about Madonna all the time, but I do believe she belongs in. She redefined pop culture as we know it, so give her that much. Too bad she don`t rock like this!!!
I grew up in the 70's listening to these guys. I still have a few of there albums, but don't have a turntable to play them. I've started watching them and there old songs on YouTube and I had forgotten how good Mark, Don, and Mel really were. In t.n.u.c Don is really outstanding on the drums. He is often over looked when it comes to Rocks all time best drummers, but I think he should be in the top ten.Grand Funk is Bad To The Bone.
He's not Bonzo, but fuck this guy got soul for rock and roul. Like the band, weren't the best in their instrument, but like a band, were on top. Anyways, who said you needed to be one to create good old raw and energetic music like this.
Saw these guys in Mobile, Al. 73'ish.....too much smoke under the bridge, but
at a mere 14 years of age I knew this was a powerful band. Other concerts had me on my feet sometimes....but this one, I never stopped jumping and lost my voice (plus some hearing) still remember Don's drum solo, closed the show with it. wow , what a show ,hay has anyone spelled this song backwards, cause that's the real name of the song but the thought police wouldn't allow it, Mean Mistreater is my fav.
Don Brewer was A Tremendous Drummer Live in the day. ( Still is ). Saw GRAND FUNK on 4 tours and Don, Mark , Mel and Craig On keys for 2 of those tours Hammered. One of the most underated bands. From the 1st song onward you were out of your seat just dancing in the aisles. It would be great for a 40th reunion put on video. If they could put aside Business concerns ! But Music is about the BIZ so we can only hope.
I saw this performed live in a free concert in Hyde Park, London on July 3rd, 1971. It was one of the finest drum solos I have ever witnessed and it left 100,000+ Brits speechless. Don Brewer, world-class drummer. Period.
Wow..I used to listen to this at my friends house. He had an older brother. I was probably about 12 he was a year older than me. That puts me it about 1969-70. This and Led Zeppelin. My introduction to rock other than the more popular stuff back then. The only album I ever owned by GFR was the red album. I'm sure I still have it too. Three guys. Rock n Roll... What more??
Back when the Drum Solo was cool! Somebody needs to have a drum solo channel from back in the day. Led Zepplin, Iron butterfly all had great drummers who played extended solos in concert.
This band is so awesome, I wanna cover this song in my band but everyone else only likes playing death metal where they scream constantly and its all monotonous. I wish young people liked old rock and roll/classic metal like I do, this stuff is infinitely better than what kids listen to today, we have no taste and it sucks.
@frasierdf ...nice to hear (read) there are some young folks out there that appreciate GFR&R...keep up the good fight with your band mates...if you play it, they will come...

@frasierdf I could be your bass player!!!!!!!! I love metal, but GFR are the KINGS!!!! Only a bass drum and a lot of ATTITUDE!!!!! Greetings from Mexico!!!
@DsveysNavy this is from a video recorded and originally only released in Japan of the 75 All The Girls In The World Beware tour. A visual document of the Caught In The Act record. You can get it in the U.S. now from ads in the back of music magazines.
i know these guys were really wild and crazy @ 20 yo (even Mel) when they first wrote the song, according to one of their bios.
and, well, um, yeah, Capitol Records were kind of keeping an eye on the guys because they were always writing songs about anything and everything they were interested in and were really bold and upfront about it: sex, women, cars, religion (something like christianity), ecology, big government, politics. hardly anyone else was, and they just tore up the music scene
Actually when gfr presented this song to the record company to be produced, the record company could not publish the word "cunt" on the cover but did after the word was read backwards and printed. Best performance by The Don Brewer!!!
@gcm2645 if you're talking about this vid, it's LA, not Tokyo. I've had this show for almost 20 years! I know there's a Tokyo show from like 83 with Dennis Bellinger on bass...parts of it were on the boxed set.
i think this is from the GFR concert @ Los Angeles Forum, June 6th, 1974. Geez, where the heck was i? oh, yeah, home from summer school, probably playing with my - - - . i wish i was at The Forum watching and listening to THIS!
This is THE powerhouse sound I grew up on. Listen to the version on the Grand Funk Live album turned up . The most powerful pumpin' song that this old punk rocker ever knew...hell ya. this version rocks but you gotta check out the live album version...smokin'
these guys rocked. Hardly anyone knew them outside of the top 40 crap they were forced to play. I wore out many a Caught in the act tape back in the 70s. They were the American band!!
Saw them at the Filmore NY in 1971 and when they introduced this song Mark says,"everybody is wondering what this song title is, well it's just plain CUNT backwards". True story. Actually lost my hearing for few days after that concert.
Farner's all over the stage, here... how does his power cord not get tangled up? lol. wow, the American equivalent of Keith Moon here, too, this guy is fantastic!
El tiempo se ha acumulado sobre mi vida, se ha encajado en mi epidermis, pero esta musica hace que mi corazón vibre con el ansia de juventud...persiste...vive

5:00 is amazing. Around 7:00 is also amazing. Much better than Matt Cameron, Foges.

I don't know why it's necessary to say Tokyo Japan, isn't Tokyo just enough?? Hahaha
gcm2645 1 year ago
@gcm2645 if you're talking about this vid, it's LA, not Tokyo. I've had this show for almost 20 years! I know there's a Tokyo show from like 83 with Dennis Bellinger on bass...parts of it were on the boxed set.

Three piece music like it's never been done before or ever since.

I think you overlooked the Cream, arguably one of the best three piece bands ever with Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton.

Totally awesome group.

Se parece a deep purple, led zeppelin pero los grand funk son mucho mas poderosos yque raro que no figuren como los inventores del rock duro.
